There are a lot of caves on private property around the county. Any particular reason that you're looking?

I would like to know as well, just to see the area and like hiking, fall is a good time to see what is in the area. If it is private property, does anyone know of the caves and who owns the property to contact.

I know of 18-20 in Pulaski but I would never tell anyone about them. I have had to go 1/2 mile back in them to get "sight seers" out of them before. If you don't know what you're doing they can be dangerous. Sorry but I refuse to put the location on the web for everyone to see.

I respect your concerns of these places, yes people need to know what they are doing, and they are dangerous. I go hiking all the time, know my boundaries and keep safety issues first.

Lets try it this way. Anyone know of caves in the area that are:

a.On public land

b. Private land where the owner doesn't mind

You all probably know about the Dykes Bridge Cave out on 192. Its a great one. About half a mile straight to the other side of the hill.

I have heard its owned by the Army Corps. I know there has never been anyone there when I was there.

Nutcase? You can't find a hole in the dirt and you think I am the nutcase? There are several Wayne county go down there and crawl around in the mud that way they won't call me when you become a statistic and make me have to come find you.

some of us went in the one at sloans valley....it was really cool....but...we had been in there for several hours, it started raining, of course we were not aware...and there were several ''fat mans squeezes'' that we had to belly through, i mean inching with arms streched out in front of us.... our backs were scraping the roof chins in mud...needless to say we all almost drowned trying to get out...we had a tiny air space at the ceiling...but it was really hard trying to crawl out holding the tip of our noses to the roof....it was scary....please...always tell someone who wont forget...where exactly you r going...it's important...god bless all you spelunkers...novice or expert... i think they shut that cave down though...any one know for sure?

they cant shut it down. there are too many entrances to it. A certain part is gated off due to endangered bats but you can go around it, through it, over it, or accidently end it up right in the middle of it if you take the wrong tunnel. it can be very dangerous though but that is the fun of it. if you dont come out soaking wet and completely covered in mud and a few scrapes then you were not really doing it up right. If you want a safe trip that kids and grandmas can go in then go to mammoth cave for a tour.

The cave at Dykes Bridge is about 9 miles out 192 from 914. When you see the long bridge there pull off to the right in the pull off space.

You will see the trail heading down the hill toward the creek. Follow it down to the creek and just star walking to the left.

Shortly you will see a huge opening. Take two flashlights apiece and dont go alone.

You will come to a beautiful marble like part of the cave. You wont regret going just for it. It continues to an exit on the other side of the hill. The last stretch you will have to stoop down but not crawl.
