Frank Crabtree has the biggest heart of any of the DJ's mentioned above. It was an honor to actualy get to work with him. When I was the new kid on the block waaaaaay back in '00 we butted heads a little bit, cause we had slightly different methods, but he's the guy I would vote for with the best voice and the best personanlity.
Jon Burlew is my mentor. When I was let go from Clearchannel originally( I've been there twice, fired once, quit once), Burlew gave me the best advice I ever got. "If you haven't been fired from radio at least once, you're not doing it right." It was that advice that probably kept me from doing anything drastic( I was pretty upset at the time, not knowing where the future would lead me). And he is still my very good friend.
Rod is my surrogate father. We have a very similar sense of humor and find many of the same things to be hilarious. That's why we butt heads from time to time. We go for the same joke many times at the same time. He can make things up on the fly and is very good at voices and improvisational humor. Frank, Jon, and Rod ae kind of my trinity of mentors. They let me into their world and helped me find my own way. I was never meant to be a DJ, but by Golly I could talk to people and find the honest humor in day to day situations like on SwapnShop.
I didn't get to work with Mark very long but he is extremely talented in radio and has one heck of a voice for it. Too bad he doesn't always have his geek facts straight. haha!!
Murph is the most dedicated, meticulous man I've ever met. He's the Columbo of editing. And he gets it right. He has an ear for it.
Jim Brown is our local legend. One of the best. Though we were rivals for much of my radio career, he seemed to take a genuine interest in what I was doing with my life, especially after we both got out of radio. I thank him for that.
You couldn't find a better replacement for me on SwapnShop than Bob Boone. You have to have a really big heart and genuinely care about people if you want to do good on that show. And you can't just go through the motions. Bob has a big heart and he seems to like the people he talks to.
Jeff Henderson, on the other hand, loved those people. Just as I did. Its a fun show to do, especially if you love the people. And resect them. Jeff and I both knew that for the show to be a success and for it to be truly funny. For people to tune in day in and day out, you have to let the listeners... the callers... take care of the comedy for you. Don't talk down to them. Never make fun of them. Just let them talk and have fun with them. WITH them. Not AT them.
I miss that show and those good times I had doing it so much sometimes, but I have moved on just like so many of the rest of us have. If you hear my voice now or see me in the media, it will be on TV. I work for a company that does the commercials for New Wave. It is the best job I've ever had and I work with the nicest people I've ever worked with. I have found my home in the media now. This is where I belong. In tv. Let's face it, if it weren't for this job, being in the right place at the right time, I would never have met my hero, Harriosn Ford. I guess God has a way of putting you where you're supposed to be.
John that was so cool.
Thank you for the nice words.
After reading all the dysfunctional posts on this website, you made my day.

Bless You,

One of the most brilliant, funny and talented guys ever in local radio. Apparently he is in Florence Ky. After one listens to Redmon do a ballgame.........everybody else sounds like an amateur. And just one helluva fine man.
He was the most overworked and underappreciated local on air personality. Did a plethora of impersonations and did them sooooo well. He is missed. Just google his name. Roger Redmon.
It will give you some info.

Man that is great that Roger is doing so well. Pretty impressive resume right now for him.

I remember dealing with him and Mike Tarter and Murph at a car dealership I worked for. It was great when they would come and do some live remotes. Mike Tarter used to take quite a bit of the brunt of our jokes on the air. Some guy asked me the other day when he could redeem his coupon for " Mike Tarter's lawn care, gutter cleaning and animal husbandry"
If one of them reads this they will know who this is.:):):):):

Another CC employee heard from (San Antonio).

Who is Mike Murphy? How does he get 40 votes in two days and no one comments on him? Is he on AM?

I guess GagMe forgot to take their medicine today. It's a damn shame isn't it Gag when DJ's and former DJ's respect each other and enjoyed working together. Lifes a mofo Gag....and then you die.

When I come home I tune in just to hear Rod Zimmerman on the air! I think he has a unique voice that he has turned into a craft. Bravo to all the DJs on the air!

I do not alot of them by name, but I listen to the station all the time. I have never heard anyone on there that annoys me or I think sucks, except that carpet barn commercial! So PROPS clear channel.

Hi there, aTT. You're absolutely right. I'm pretty decent at what I do, but when it comes to human interaction, I'm just like any other average(and I do mean average) mortal. I do a lot of nice things for people and, unfortunately, I have done a lot of stupid things to people. I'm so sorry if you were on the other end of one of the stupid things.
If anybody in the public eye seems perferct or without fault, trust me, they're not. Just like you, just like everybody. That's what makes us human. We can only ask for forgiveness and move on.

Would have been nice if you had asked for forgiveness.....
