I was at Wal Mart today and had purchased an $80 vacuum cleaner I PAID CASH for with MY hard earned money. I thought nothing of it when this employee stopped me at the door and demanded to see my receipt! That pissed me off as it was embarassing; people were looking at me like I was a theif. I've NEVER stolen a thing in my life and never will!
If I had known this I'd went to Kmart. At least I never had this problem there! Needless to say I'll take my business somewhere else. Has this ever happened to anyone else..I'm betting it has.

yep, happened to me before and im a honest hard working person. I dont take it personal though. When that alarm goes off they have to check the person that made it go off. They must have forgot to disarm the security tag on your vacuum. It is embarrassing though:(

well..... sorry it made you uncomfortable.. shoplifting is a crisis in all retail markets.. and very normal to check packages on way out the door. wasnt personal .. just good business in this day and time. it dont bother me to show receipt as i pass out the door .. just standard procedure. i hold it up before asked for it.. but that is just me.

its not my job to watch people. We have a loss prevention staff that does that. oh, and a big purse is a red flag. If you have that big of an issue with it, just take in your wallet. The people are just doing their jobs. Not being mean, just giving you some tips on how not to be followed, like I said, I get followed everywhere I go and I carry a small purse...

Anytime you buy something large like vacuum, tv, even rugs they'll stop you cause it's not in a bag. I've been stopped for the alarm cause the cashier didn't disable the strip on a box of razors. Had to stop & dig in $300 worth of groceries to find them & show the receipt.
They'll definately stop you if it's the only item in your cart. I had huge potters for my flowers & got stopped. They don't know whether you paid for them or just put them in your cart & start walking out.
Yeah people stare but who cares. Their just doing their job. Just smile & show receipt. I've learned to just hold my receipt up when I have something that large so they'll know you paid like you would at Sams Club.

No alarm had went off. And not everybody is a theif. While it was a large box and couldn't be bagged I had other items in the cart that were. Who would dare to go in the store and just carry something out without paying for it? Not to mention being dishonest. I wouldn't want anyone stealing from me and I wouldn't steal from anyone either.

I don't know who would but they try. I've had the same thing happen to me with the cart empty & full of groceries. Sometimes the alarm goes off but more times not. Once I went & bought a storage container & the few things I also purchased (Xmas decorations) I had just put in the container instead of bags to make it easier & the woman stopped me just to check the ticket (no alarm). She was shocked with all the stuff inside but knew I paid for it. I joked, do people try to hide things in the containers & she said yes! I have never stole in my life but there are alot that do. It's annoying & embarrassing to get stopped but if they didn't watch out there would be more stolen & higher prices for us.

Could it be that the employees really want to help ??- The 1st time it happened to me , I went ballistic - Now , if being watched or being stopped by the Wally World alarm , I just smile and holler Stop Thief - Now that gets everybody laughing - Even tho I pay for my stuff , I tell the receipt checker there's nothing in there worth stealing - Just keep smilin', shoplifters make it rough on everybody -

Thanks Kia9. That's good advice, a little humor can help remedy the situation. If it happens again I'll tell them there's nothing in there worth stealing!

Well I can tell you lots of people carry out items. Some boys were caught at one store don't remember if it was a walmart taking out laptops. Now they had taken the lap tops to another part of the store removed them from the box and carried them out. Showed it on the news. Happens every day in every store. Even in restraunts. Some people do it just to be doing it whether they need it or not.
