I hate Walmart with a burning passion! I have been shopping at Kroger for a long time now, and I usually go to Kroger South (next to Krystal and Schlotzsky's) because it's closer to where I live. But lately it's been pretty bad.

I am sure you have all noticed that Kroger employees now have new uniforms. Blue shirts and khaki pants. Just like f*cking Walmart. Some Kroger employees still look a little uncomfortable in those new shirts and aprons, or whatever they are. Always tugging at them and adjusting them. Scratching at itchy places. I liked it a lot better when they could still dress like normal people, and were comfortable and relaxed enough to smile at me when I went through the checkouts.

And they used to have male bagBOYS and female cashiers. Not anymore. I don't know if they are trying to be more 'gender equal' or what, but some of the boys I've seen bagging groceries are now working as cashiers, and the girls I used to see working as cashiers are now bagging groceries. And they don't seem very happy about it. What gives??? Maybe I sound sexist. But the truth is a lot of people - not just me - don't feel right about asking girls to carry their groceries outside for them, especially if it's cold or raining. I know I never will! So Kroger is putting its customers between a rock and a hard place here. Some of us might want to take advantage of their hospitality and service, but we feel uncomfortable doing so because it goes against what we believe. So we don't do it.

I think this Kroger needs to straighten its ass up and get back to what keeps its customers AND employees happy.:(

I have noticed the changes at this Kroger lately. The women in the bakery acts like it would kill her to help you. They had people keeping the shelves stocked all the time and now you can't find anyone to help. Uniforms come from corporate. Whats the deal with the front line manager in the red. He just stands there and stares at everyone. Would it hurt him to smile and help out when they get busy?

Somerset has way to few grocery stores at best. I hate Kroger South. You can never get fresh bread. And you usually have to take out your own groceries 75% of the time. I mean if i wanted hum-drum service, i would just go to Aldie or Save-A-lot where at least you know you are goning to be carrying out your own groceries, and you don't have to pay a arm and a leg for the pleasure of doing so. With Kroger's prices, you would think they could at least have someone in there that is nice. Also Kroger charges the poor people co-pays on their meds, while Hometown Pharmacy does not, has great, friendly and fast service.

'Notice changes'- I don't know about any MAN in a red vest up front, but I usually see the same woman up there. Poofy hair, tiny lips with dark red lipstick, looks a little like a clown. Fakest smile I ever saw. I don't like the way she stands around gabbing or gets on the phone behind the desk while the cashiers are hollering at her because they need stuff. And she talks down to them a lot. I don't care for that.

I guess I am going to just have to find somewhere else to shop. I hate the way this Kroger has changed in the last few months!

i agree, you cant get fresh bread at kroger south.
as for girls carrying out my groceries..they applied for the job and we do have equality between the sexes, do we not?
now the uniforms could be a little sexier, might make me eat a little more!!
my niece is a pharmacist at one of the Kroger stores, so i won't bash the pharmacy. although,i have complained about one girl that works in the pharm, south.

Walmart's always too crowded. And even if you go in there really late or really early to avoid the crowds, the stock crew keeps putting their pallets right in the way so you can't get around and SHOP. Plus they are rude. Last time I was in there I paid for my one bag full of stuff, and some old lady - the greeter I guess - stopped me and everyone else at the door so she could look at our receits. "Stop! I need to see your receit!" she screeched at us, and huffed and sighed like we were all pissing HER off. I complained about that. Not that it does any good. Plus Walmart doesn't have much of a selection these days. Kroger has more brand/flavor variety most of the time.

I guess I am just looking for some good old-fashioned service with a smile. Can't seem to get it. A few of those girls at Kroger South are great, but I have more complaints about the store than praise.

you would probably have a shit fit if Jesus Christ showed up for dinner unexpectedly! There are more pressing issues in this world to be concerned about, not what the Kroger employees are wearing, there not dressing for YOU!

Nope, they are dressing as some people in corporate decided they should dress based on focus groups consisting of their corporate employees. When anything is said to management about it by the employees they are told they have gotten nothing but praise about the uniforms. Every rank and file employee I have talked to hates them, I have spoken with other customers and they also dislike the change. Comments here show the same thing as well although I am sure some of them have been made by employees.

I am unsure why they have made such a change as making females they hired in as cashiers bag and males they hired to bag be checkers, maybe a gender equality thing or something. The big scary clown lady is also another reason you will find the employees seem less than friendly, she creates a hostile work environment. She was given just enough authority to go mad with it. If an employee is 1 minute late she starts calling any phone number they have for them. Many workers have quit and others would like to if it were not for the terrible job market.

I am pretty much speaking from experience. I used to work there but found it was not worth it. Although in today's job market I regret letting my pride overrule my reason.

Kroger South has many good people in it,yes the work enviorment can be hostile but the management is great they do what they can to ensure customers are satisfied. The problem is the front end people there are extremely rude although there are good people up front there are some who need to go and dont need their authority
