The County has a Cemetery off of 1247 across from the radeo station over in a field where they at one time use to put people who's family didn't have the money to do so there selfs, and now the county has completly forgot about the Cemetery. they haven't been a weed eater or a mower in there in 40 years or longer, and to make the situation even worce, there in no road where you can even drive to it or even a walk way to it or even a pull over spot where you can pull off to. You have to pull in someone drive way and ask if you can park in there drive way so you can walk back to the Cemetery, then you have to ask if it is ok to cut through there back yard to get to it, and if there ok with it, then you have to start the long walk through there yard and clime over a barbwire fence then through this field with weeds up to your chest and up a steep hill and at the top of it is the cemetery and the cemetery looks just like the field, weeds up to your chest and you can't even see the stones and rocks.
I went to the county judges office and they hadn't even ever heard of it and had know Ideal as to who is buried in it. there should have records sence it is the countys cemetery. I think it is a disjustes to the people who is burried they and to the familys of people who is buried there, I just fount out that my dad has 2 brothers and a sister in that cemetery and would very much like to visit the graves and put them up a stone. and I have elderly family that would like to visit there graves but there is know way to get them back there to it. There is not even a sign up for the cemetery or nothing. and someone should ask the county how they could have let this happen and when is someone going to do something about it. I was sadden to learn about my family being in the cemetery and to see it the way it was and that I had to go through what I did to get to it. I ask for for everyone help to get something done even if it is just to make a comment on this form about your thoughts of it. Please Paper office, you are our only weapon in this battle. When the paper talks, People listen. Please talk for us and check into this.

Jackie, sorry to hear about this problem were your family is buried and they should invest some of that liquor money they are going to be collecting to fix this cemetery. To me this would be a good way for some that big money there expecting to bring in to be used. Thank You

This saddens me to think that graves and peoples family could be disrespected this way by the County government. Even if it has been 40 years they should be records some place to tell who and were the body's are buried at this time even if you wanted to put up a stone without a record of were the bodies are you wouldn't know who you was marking. I would think that you should be able to get some state help on this and they should be a state law against this. Good Luck

I think maybe a few of us could help in at least cleaning it up if the property owner who has the driveway would be willing to put if with some automobiles for the day.

Perhaps set a date, inform people to bring cordless weed whackers, water, mowers, etc, and let us help get it proper.

In the mean time, keep complaining to the city about it. That's the only way to get action, is to keep some seats hot. Take names, dates and times of who you speak to. Doing this, you make them OWN the situation.

I'd be happy to come out and help a bit if you would like to organize this. I'm not much physical use anymore when it comes to working out in the heat, but I'll do what I can!

This is interesting. I had heard of there being a cemetery in that area but wasn't sure.

By all means, petition the paper, the city, EVERYONE you can to get this sorted out. The people buried there probably have descendants all over...maybe try asking the historical society to help. They do lots of stuff with genealogy, and there may be information that people need for their family trees involving that cemetery.

This is so sad, The county or state should do something about cleaning up that cementary. it is disrespectfur to the dead and their families. Poor people should have the same respect as anyone else. Jackie did you cal the newspaper to see if they will run a story about this? I also wonder if the Governor can do something about this. I am hoping someone in goverment will take charge of this and get something done about it.

There should be a law against letting this county cemetery grow up in this manner. I would think that if you take this to the Somerset City Council and get on their agenda to speak to them, they may help. Also, I agree. The Pulaski Co. Historical Society might be able to help on this. They are very concerned with keeping our cemeteries where people can see them.

These are my relatives also, and I am willing to do what I can although I am older and can't get to it. However, the county should make an access to it for the younger generation. Our ancestors need to be remembered.

What are some of the family names of the people buried in this cemetery? I might have them listed in some of my genealogy papers, now that I think about it.

The lady at the historical society was the one that told me about this cemetery and where it was at, she had at one time the true list of who was burried there and in what plots but it got stolen from the file and now all they have is the list of the ones that have real stones up. She said they got the list from a county office but didn't know which one so she referd me to the county clerks office and see if they had a copy so off I went and when I got there, they had no clue about the cemetery and had never heard of it before and she asked a few that worked in there and have been there for a while and none of them had ever heard of it nether and they had never heard of it and didn't even know there was one up there, They referd me to the county Judges Ex. Office, so off I go again. I get there and got the same reply, No one knows nothing and never even heard of it and didn't even know there was one there. So back to the Library and taslked to the lady again and she was 100% positive that it was the Countys. So I thought I would go and try to find it myself. What a journey I had to locate it and to get to it. I went to the paper office and talked to a reporter and needless to say, he had never heard of it ether and that he would talk to his editer, that was a week ago and know story yet. Someone has to find out about it and do something about it and find that list and put the list in the paper.

Talking about forgotten souls! Voters have clout, maybe a petition with voter signatures given to some elected officials will catch the eye and attention of someone that can do something about it. This is a shame. A deed search of ownership of the land the cemetery sits on will tell who owns and is responsible for it. When that is flashed at the county they will have to take responsibility.
