Nope. Just go apply. You should get around 180 a month.

Well did i hit a nerve there? The person who posted didn't say anything about having a disability or good reason for not working. They were just looking for a hand out. I see people come in to my place of employment and look at equipment all the time. The next thing out of their mouth is "well I will be back on the 3 rd when my disability check comes in and buy that. By the way I sell things that only a person able to work should even think about using. There is simply no need for the 20 someting or the 18 year old to be on disability. They are lazy and need a butt kicking. If you can walk and use power tools you can do something to earn your keep. When I was a kid maybe 10 to 15 percent of the population was on Government aid. Now it is almost 50 percent. There is no way in He// your going to make me believe 50 percent of the people are to sick to work. Simple fact is 50 percent of the people are spoiled, Lazy and feel entitled. Got news for you .... You ain't special and only a no good for nothing person won't hold a Job. Now I bet that pisses you off but if the shoe fits own it baby!

It is easy to get on the SNAP program. You can get benefits in just a few days once you provide the verification they require; proof of where you live, expenses, ect. Since you said you do
n't have a job they will give you a form for a non relative that knows you that can verify this. You don't have to have children to qualify.

Definately nothing wrong with asking for and getting help if one truly needs it.

getting help is not a problem. everyone deserves a little help now and then who need it but when that need becomes a continuing career path that is another matter.

there should be a time limit; especially for those who have families and able to work. the poor do not deserve better, or more, than those of the working class. they should be forced to work and if they won't then they should be allowed to go hungry if they choose.

most jobs in this county don't pay very well and with the high prices of food (and those prices keep going up due to fuel costs) even honest working folk are going to need food stamps.

The checks that come in on the 3rd is Social Security, one must work and pay it in, that is not a "handout." SSI is a different matter though. Tose checks come in on the 1st.

That's right. They're called the "working poor." Min. wage just isn't enough, even with 40 hours a week to pay rent, utilities, buy gas and food. Just because one gets food stamps doesn't mean they're lazy.

Well my young son deserves his SSI, he is severely autistic and when he becomes an adult he won't be able to work or even live on his own.

Read carefully I was talking about 18 to 30 year old young men. You Don't get Social Security till your retirement age.

Sorry to hear about your Son. Someone who is Autistic does most certainly Qualify for Aid. That is what it was meant for.
The thing that gets me is Big 18 20 year old guys in the prime of their lives throwing away their working life and dignity for a check from the Government. A young man only has about 25 years to work and hit it hard to make his way in life the checks rob them of that.

You don't have to be retirement age to get social security. My mother in law has a mental illness and she gets social security. My dad has debilitated discs in his back and no rotator cuff and he gets it too. Plus you can't get SSI or social security just because you don't want to work. That person that is 20 or 25 gets it for a reason. They have something physically or mentally wrong with them. It takes months and even years to get it. You have to get lawyers and go before judges and doctors. Its not an easy process. Then most of the time you get turned down. Tell me this: My cousin was diagnosed with md at a young age and tried to get social security for years. It took her dying at the age of 14 for them to approve her case. Now tell me anybody can get ssi or sicial security

The government wants to cut medicare benefits to the elderly, when the reality is that medicaid needs a major overhaul.
Some of us elderly, disabled individuals still work, pay our own way and never beg, borrow or steal for others to take care of necessities.
Times are tough, jobs are few, but there is ways for people to survive. Go clean up the garbage along the roadways, donate your time at a community organization to help others, spring is here...go mow an elderly persons yard. There is enough cans, paper, bottles along the highways that can be recycled and money in your pockets. It may not be much, but a little is better then nothing.
People have the "give me" syndrome.

Everybody knows somebody who is drawing SS disabilty, "and they are in better shape than I am". All you need to do is lie about back pain, and get a crooked lawyer. They even advertise on TV. The system is good, but there are flaws.

Also there is an enormous amount of fraud in Medicare by the doctors and other providers. They will order every test imaginable just so they can get the money. And if you ask what something cost, many times you will hear "doesn't matter, Medicare will pay for it"
