According to the mayor the county is planning on running its own EMS agency on 1.2 million dollars.

Realistically that would be fine for having 1 truck running 24 hours a day but, how would it be possible for 1 truck to run roughly 6500 runs a year? Buying ambulances, equipment, and paying what, minimum wage?

You buy 1 ambulance and stock it for emergency services and lets see how quickly that 1.2 million will last, considering a ambulance starts at around 90,000, ECG monitors near 15,000... What are you going to do if that truck breaks down?

People call your magistrates and demand the to concede to the mayors demands or you will be without EMS coverage that you deserve.

Why is the county in the ambulance business? Let private business take over. If there is not enough demand to support private operation, then let the county do without ambulance service.

They have conceded but the city is also asking for an annual increase in the amount of money they receive for EMS services provided to the county so it doesn't happen again.

City council need to step up, we need our EMS , i have family in the county, i want someone getting to them in case of a emergency. I do not trust the county to do a good job at this. They failed before and every time they needed money they grabbed it out of EMS and cut them back.

Council is making a mistake here if they let this happen, Bullock said no matter what they would provide EMS service to county, with what his looks? Its a known fact the county has no money to support a EMS of any type. Mr' Bullock can't run the county, a 30 year old girl does that already. If she quit, he would just sit in his office and look up at the ceiling, cause in 6 years as judge he has learned nothing. They do not have revenue to support a EMS, they will have to raise taxes cause Girdler is taking the occupational tax money. COUNTY IS BROKE!!!
I heard they can't even come up with the 65,000 grand to pay Somerset back without borrowing it. They just went in debt for a 3.5 million senior home. Tell us Barty, how are you going to pay for EMS for the county?

Girdler has ruined his kingdom. He needs to be replaced at the earliest possible time, taking all his yes-men and city attorney with him. KING GIRDLER MUST GO.

If the noun begins with a vowel, the article is "an".

An emergency
An EMS
An apple
A truck
A rabbit
A judge

I don't understand, why is it up to a government to run an EMS?

Most counties are serviced by privately-run ambulances, and those companies make people rich off Medicare and Medicaid funds.

Why doesn't a private ambulance service the area?

That's not a hard rule. The key is the sound of the first syllable. For instance, a word starting with a long "U" does not require use of "an".

Ex. There is a use for that, not an use.

Seems like people are concerned about spelling and punctuation, lets see what they worry about when they live in the county or a family member and need EMS and no one shows up for a hour . You dummys should be worried about that.

This is all about a money grab for the Mayor. The city announced plans to build a new city hall and gas center, then when they went to get bonds to build it they did not have a strong enough financial position to get the bonds approved. So then the Mayor decided that he needed a constant stream of money to make the City financially stronger so they could get approved for the bond issue to build the Taj-Ma-Eddie (new city hall). He decided to use the EMS as a means to go after the money by telling the county to make up the shortfall or the City would go after more of the Occupational Tax that is collected. The mayor must have been shocked when the county said they would pay the shortfall. He got everything he said he wanted, but what he said and what he wanted are two different things.

All along the mayor has wanted the constant and steady stream of Occupational Tax dollars to shore up the cities finances so that they can qualify for the bond issue to build his palace. The city is not in poor shape financially, just not in a strong enough position to get a several million dollar bond issue to build a new city hall/gas center/police department.

The mayors own mother lives in the county, hope if he gets his way she never needs an ambulance and can't get one because her son won't allow the ambulances into the county.

I live in the city but I am embarrassed by the actions of the mayor over this and other issues the last few weeks.

So why do we depend on local governments to provide ambulance services when I'm sure there are private ambulance services more than willing to service the city and county?

Don't most counties have private ambulance services?
