Actually I met The Duke back when I was in college. He came to campus to celebrate an anniversary of a Zigma Chi chapter. However, do you really have to know someone personally, to criticize their politics or actions? I never met Hanoi Jane, but have no qualms about criticizing her stance on the war. Also, notice you had no problems criticizing Obama, Biden and Clinton in this very thread. Do you know them personally or are the rules just different for some people? Just wondering.
I did not criticize Clinton,Biden, and obama.
I was asking ,whether the same rules applied.
There is a difference between getting a deferment and going to Hanoi to help the enemy.
I can't play anymore tonight.I'll come out to play tomorrow.

A cherry picked selection of 12 voters? Wow.

If your point is that there are some dumb Democrats, then I agree. There are some DUUUUUUUUUUMB Democrats. Hell yeah, amen.

But don't think for a second that cherry picked method can't be turned around on the Republicans. You have seen some of the videos from Tea Bagger rallies, right?

When I made the statement .You can not judge some one you don't know. Some one had called him a coward.Seeing some one for a few moments,is not knowing him. To know a person is not a 30 sec. conversation.
So when you met Wayne, you told him he was a coward?Did you tell him your views of him, because of his lack of war effort.

I really liked the obama music in the back ground.
That is what topix is all about ,cherry picking.
Actually I received that video in an E-Mail.I thought it was amusing.
We should have to take a test before we vote.At least know something about each candidate. In reality this two party system sucks. There are two well known picks, bad and worse. The other parties can not get any tv time, because they are not of the elite.

Once again, I never said that. It's a shame you can't argue your point of view without trying to deflect the issue. It's always a show of weakness when debating.
So what is your point?I'm not trying to deflect the issues, you are avoiding the issues.
You have stated he got a defernment, and made movies for money, and now he can not love America.(be a patriot).
Actually he can't love America. He went to the great defernment in the sky,or where ever people go when the ticker gives out.

That's exactly right. While Obama has been a huge disappointment that hasn't done really anything he promised since taking office, I can't say John McCain and Sarah Palin would be any better. Hell, they could be a whole lot worse.

And Romney? LOL Talk about a dud.

One candidate deserved to win in 2008 and 2012, yet was roundly ignored.

My point is very simple. He was called to serve during a time a great crisis. With the help of his studio he declined and then stayed home to make movies that lined not only his pockets, but those of his studio. Then, feeling guilty for turning his back on his nation, he spent the rest of his life trying to portray himself as a patriot who loves his country. You believe this is someone who represents the best of American values and I don't. End of story.

Washington had told California draft boards to go easy on actors. Perhaps rationalizing that he could do more good at home, Wayne obtained 3-A status, "deferred for [family] dependency reasons."

http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/1055...

Shortly before his death, the U.S. Congress approved a congressional gold medal for Wayne. It was given to his family in 1980. In the same month as the Duke's passing the Orange County Airport was renamed after him. He was later featured on a postage stamp in 1990 and again in 2004 and was inducted into the California Hall of Fame in 2007.

In honor of his charitable work in the fight against cancer, Wayne's children established the John Wayne Cancer Foundation in 1985. The organization provides support to numerous cancer-related programs and to the John Wayne Cancer Institute at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California.

http://www.biography.com/people/john-wayne-95...

Selective Service Records indicate he did not attempt to prevent his reclassification as 1-A (draft eligible), but apparently Republic Pictures intervened directly, requesting his further deferment. In May, 1944, Wayne was reclassified as 1-A (draft eligible), but the studio obtained another 2-A deferment (for "support of national health, safety, or interest"). He remained 2-A until the war's end. Thus, John Wayne did not illegally "dodge" the draft, but he never took direct positive action toward enlistment.

http://forum2.aimoo.com/HistoryUnlimited/cate...

Wayne was a popular visitor to the war zones in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. By the 1950s, in large part due to the military aspect of many of his films, Wayne had become an icon to all the branches of the U.S. military, despite his actual lack of military service. His name is attached unofficially to various pieces of military gear, such as the P-38 "John Wayne" can-opener, so named because "it can do anything." A paper towel unhappily used in place of "bathroom tissue" became known as "John Wayne toilet paper" because "it's rough and it's tough and don't take sh-t off no one." C-Ration crackers are called "John Wayne crackers" because presumably only someone as tough as Wayne could eat them.

http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Joh...

I also read somewhere that military personell encouraged John Wayne to keep making war films because he did more for recruting soldiers than any other effort. That coupled with pressure from the film industry helped cause Wayne decide not to enlist. He made #35 weekly and got a raise to $75 per week so waving the flag for money and lining his pockets was a cheap shot at best. The military even named a helicopter after him (Duke), I guess there aren't too many coward draft dodgers that get that much respect from all branches the military.

"Wayne had become an icon to all the branches of the U.S. military", this quote is found in above link.

Ron Paul has some good idea. I do agree with a lot of stuff he says. But he is shackled with all that religious claptrap. His social policies, when they link up to his faith, are as terrible as the next Conservative.

I'd like to see a candidate that is fiscally responsible, religiously neutral, socially progressive, and well educated.

But Liberals won't accept a lot of the fiscal policies of such a candidate and Conservatives are too protective of heir own a**holes to accept that maybe - just maybe - their personal religious views are their PERSONAL religious views.

I kinda wish we could have other candidates and parties involved. But at the same time all that really means is some minor party without a lot of support ends up winning. If you had Ghosts, Werewolves, Zombies, and Vampires and the Vamps had a 2% advantage over the others you'd have Vamps in office. And the Zombie people would be upset, the Werewolves would scream about tyranny, and the Ghosts would say the End is Nigh.

300 million people. Dozens of possible parties. Thousands of religious traditions. I fear this might be the best system we can come up with.

No matter what, he was granted a deferment by the draft board. Are you upset he made movies, and did not have what I call a real job,or is it the money.
Does every one that got a deferment fit into the same category,in your opinon,as Wayne? They have no right being regretful,or patriotic.
One thing to consider,he had the balls to come out and admit his mistake. He is the only public figure I have heard to do so.
