Really? The man who refused to serve when his country called? Many of his colleagues in the movie industry volunteered, but not him. I believe in emulating true heros, not actors who prefer to portray them.

the movies he made in the war era served more than him fighting as james stewart and clark gable did. that is how our gov saw it at the time. this time they were right..

Let me see,Now we have obama.Who is a racist, and hates America. His second in command,Biden, who was an out and out draft dodger.Oh yes then there was slick Willie, and FAT Gore.Yes they have served our country well.
I'll stick with "The Duke".At least he contributed to the effort. The Clintons went to Russia,to spend their Vietnam tour of duty.

It's your prerogative to idolize someone who evaded his wartime duty. Lots of liberals out there are of the same mind, so I suppose some would say you are in good company. As for me, I prefer to respect the men and women who have answered their country's call during times of great crisis; those who were willing to put their lives on the line for their nation and it's people. Those who serve do so because it is the right thing to do; to protect all Americans regardless of race, creed or political party. They are the true patriots, not someone who made a career out of pretending to be a hero.

Tom Cruise can make a hundred Top Gun movies, but he's still some goofy guy jumping up and down on Oprah's couch. It's pretty sad when people believe that making movies is more patriotic than actually serving your country.

Think you for your respect. No one said anything about idolizing anyone.

How two sided we are and how we point fingers at one other but cannot think for ourselves. I also like the fact you can spend 2-3 minutes with someone and if you didn't guess upon first look, know what side they are on.

James Arnez served.thats why Marshal Dillon always walked the way he did. He took a hit to the hip in war.I'm glad that I didn't see any combat in the eighties, but I have been to other countries and I am truly grateful that I live here.I do like NewZealand and Australia but we do live in the greatest country in the world.Respect it.We The People are America.Presidents will come and go,but we remain.

Given the nature of the post I was replying to anything else would be like talking to a brick wall.

Obama "hates" America? Gimme a break. At least find something factual to complain about. I can't really argue over something that insubstantial.

The only person I would consider a hero is my father. No he never took an enemy base all by himself, never charged a hill.He was never a public figure. He was a farmer, coal miner and railroad man.
He was a great father. He would be my hero.
To many people get into hero worship. We usually do not know the real person.
