its no gurantee that u will get a job, most of the guys i know who took it did not get a job, a few were offered jobs in another part of the state or out of state and u would be gone for a week or 2 at a time...just depends on what u want. Its a tuff course, gen out of about 30 starting, only about 10 actually finish.

This is a totally physical job, strong legs, arms, back, and endurance is mandatory. I was on the sticks for 10 yrs. I feel lucky to be alive. The people that do this for a living are a special breed of human beings. Hats off!

I have no high school diploma nor a GED,so my question is will the lineman school accept a high school equivalency certificate from online? I work 40hrs a week at my dead-end job with no time to be able to attend an adult learning school to recieve my actual GED...I'm just trying to better my family and myself. Can anyone help me here with that question?

I suggest you call the school and ask them
Personally, I don't think so.The ged will help when you go for future employment.Get on with a contractor, for experiance. While you are working, put your app.in at the utility companies (telephone and electric).Good profession.Hard work, but a good job.If you have thin skin, you may not like it.This is not an office job.Be in shape.Even being in shape ,it will hurt the unused muscles for a while.
GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the advice,I called the school and they do not accept anything from online. It has to be a high school diploma or
GED only. I guess trying to better my family and self is out of the question. I don't get home in time to attend the adult learning classes they close at 4:00p.m. and I work out of county. I cant afford to quit my job either to attend theses classes. Doesn't most telephone/utility company's want a schooling background(like the lineman school) and a high school/GED? I wouldn't think I am thined skinned since I trim trees for a living...and being in shape well I think I'm alright. Just looking for a better paying job and a better stressless living for my wife and daughters. Thanks again!

The utility companies do require at least a GED.
Maybe you can look into night school.Just a suggestion.
There ain't nothin soft about hard times.Keep your head up and go for it.
Make sure your daughter gets an education.

Props to you for not taking the easy way out and just sitting home collecting a check. Don't give up on getting that GED. It's the single most important thing you can do to open up opportunities. Try talking to your employer and ask about how they might be willing to work with you on scheduling. If they aren't interested in helping, start looking for another job immediately. If they care about you, they'll be alittle flexible.
Also, please consider that physically demanding jobs take a toll on your body and that can shorten your career. You won't always be in your early 20's and trust me, as you get older those sprained ankles and pulled muscles are harder to get over. You seem like an intelligent guy and definately willing to work to succeed. Those are two things in your favor already. Second on your list of important responsibilities (behind taking care of your family) needs to be getting that GED.
Good luck to you and God Bless!

I attended the school back in 2009 and loved every min of it. It took me a couple months to find a job, but I did. You can not be pickey. I took a job with a cable and phone company running line until I got on with Elliot. Remember, no matter what kind of linework you start out as it will all add up to experience until you get on with the company you want. Good luck if this is the road you want to go down.
