"need info", I can't help you with your housing search but, I suggest contacting some realtors and inquiring about location and prices. Maybe even a call to the Somerset PD for crime statistics in the City and the Sheriff's office for info on the County. Some areas are definately better than others.
For a long time the Science Hill School System was known to have better educational services than either Somerset or County Schools. That may not be the case know though. I suggest contacting all boards of education and inquiring about test scores, class sizes and facilities.
Finally, let me welcome you and your family to Somerset/Pulaski County and say that I wish you great success and happiness in your life as our neighbor!

Somerset was at one time a area that I was proud of. Pulaski County has always been my home and had never wanted for anywhere else. The county schools are in truth not bad. Not bad at all. Just don't expect a great deal say so in your child's education. But those days are gone everywhere. The one huge strike against Pulaski County and Somerset City is this has to be the most corrupt bunch of politicians to ever take office. If that sort of thing doesn't bother you then by all means move on in. But be warned there are no honest elections. If you have a little money or know the right people you can get out of practically anything. If you do get stopped by certain officers it's a crap shoot whether it will turn out OK or you'll get assaulted and the whole thing covered up by the good ol boys. The judges are bought and paid for by other political figures who broke every rule in the book to get them elected. On second thought I wouldn't move here if someone paid me. Frankly if everyone knew what really goes on..........nah this is Hooterville as long as you get what you want everyone turns a blind eye.

This is complete and total poppycock. The State audits all of these local offices and watches elections very closely. As with any govt agency, you'll always have a few bad apples but, that is the case anywhere.
The claims about judges sounds alot like somebody found themselves on the wrong side of a judgement.
Lots of anonymous negativity in the above post and none of it backed up with facts. Same old Topix garbage.
OP, please disregard.

Do NOT move there! I have visited a few times and my husband had the misfortune of working for a company that has its main office there. The town has nothing to do, hardly any stores or restaurants, and severe boredom. People are uneducated but think they know when someone is "frauding" them when, in fact, they were doing their job to the letter. A tiny bit of education would have helped them with that. Save yourself the trouble of bored druggies and move anywhere else.

Another poster with an agenda. Atleast this one admitted to never living Somerset. And thankfully she doesn't.
Somerset is a wonderful town to call home, surrounded by scenic beauty and easily within driving distance of major metropolitan areas. Like any other town, it has its problems. But, the positives far out-pace any negatives.
Again, there's no question about people who post nothing but negatives in a thread intended to help and inform a new neighbor.

Sorry Paul Revere. But, I'd have to agree I once loved this county. And if for a change we got some decent people in office throughout both the city and county perhaps one day I could love this area again. And contrary to your belief I have NEVER been in front of the court for anything. But I have been involved in government for four decades. And let me tell you it is the worst I have ever seen. Sickening the word I would use. Paul if you love it that's great. It is a scenic area and has SOME wonderful people. Just be aware of what is waiting for you when you get here. Most crimes go unsolved. Political offices are bought and sold. Honesty and integrity are for now unheard of. And you only have to read the papers and look at the court cases that have been settled to see what I'm talking about. It's truly a sad time for us all.

Hey, if you have evidence that supports your claims, I suggest you contact the State police or the FBI. I'm sure there are branches of law enforcement that would listen to you and examine your evidence. If, on the other hand you are making allegations that you cannot backup, you'll be lumped into the pile of crackpots and conspiracy theorists. And rightly so.
Every so often we get a thread like this where people ask honest questions about how to find a house in Somerset/Pulaski County or that they are moving to the area. Without fail we always get these goofy responses that make wild and unsubstantiated claims. Par for the Topix course I suppose.
However, why try to spread your misery to others? 9 out of 10 times the reality is that any misery these whiners are experiencing is caused by their own actions.
How is it the population of Somerset and Pulaski County continues to grow if it's this terrible place that everyone should stay away from??? It's because the exact opposite is true!
There's always a couple of bad apples trying ruin the whole bushel. Topix is the perfect place to sow their seeds of discontent.

So EVERYBODY is a victim? Good grief! Put on your big boy pants and stop the whinning!
Everyone is NOT out to get you or hold you back. You have the same opportunities as everyone else. What you do with that opportunity is entirely up to you!

Welcome to Somerset.
We have water, not as much as we did have.
We have electricity.
We have natural and propane Gas.
We have indoor plumbing, City sewers, County septic tanks, city water, wells and cisterns.
We have big roads, little roads, hills and curves, just about all now have asphalt or chip and seal, few places have concrete.
We have plenty of promises of better days ahead, that's on hold right now.
We have (3) County High Schools,(1) City High School,(1) 2 year college and a KCTCS Vocational School.
We have a Hospital, City Police without a Chief, City Fire, and the County has a Sheriff, with Deputies, a bunch of Lawyers, judges and elected officials, and a great big Jail.
We have won a wet election, still waiting on booze, better bring your own if you drink the hard stuff, or ask most anybody where the bootleggers live to get your own here.
We have the town square all torn up, makes it hard to get through town, but they say it will get done one of these days.
We have an Airport, but there has been talk about using it for Drag Racing on the weekends.
That's about it, I'm sure I didn't cover everything but seeing is believing, Come see for yourself and bring some jobs with you.

Im looking at property rite on casey/pulaski line on ky-80. We were told were in Casey school district but some locals go to russell. We lived in the area 20 years ago and arnt familiar with roads but remember useing the toll road. we want good good roads, safe roads for our kids to go to school on. safer highways from county line to Liberty or towards Somerset? Is it still a toll Rd? we mite consider staying close to Somerset if the ky-80 is still like it used to be. Thank you.
