"As a community advocate and a nonsmoker, I believe the city of Somerset needs to pass a smoking ban in all public buildings and facilities. The time is right for change and our city leaders have the power to take this city in a new direction. A smoking ban will help secure the health of its citizens and stimulate the economy in Somerset."

Let's just ban it all. No cigarettes, No booze, No sex, No fun, No topix, No music, No dancing. Everyone is against something.

Communism at its best.
Big brother decides what is best for us and some are so happy to go along with and support. All for the common good. Why not eliminate all the fast food restaurants in town. They are doing far more to clot our arteries than the 35 percent who smoke. On that line wouldn't we all be better off to be vegetarian then we could live forever.

Let's also go to bicycles for transportation and we would be in much better physical condition and the air would not be nearly as polluted, and we wouldn't have a gas crisis either. All for the common good.
Would you rather sit in a room with 2 people smoking a ciggarette or in a garage with the car running.
The principle of your suggestion and mine are the same whether you agree or not
If you dont like to be around smoke don't go to places that allow it. You have that choice as do I but you want to take mine and keep yours.
All for the Common Good.

As long as lawmakers allow tobacco sales, and profit from it via heavy and increasing taxes, then private business owners should be able to dictate what legal activities they will allow within their businesses. If patrons disagree, then they can choose another business, giving that business owner a choice to either conform to keep those patrons, or not. This is a democratic and capitolistic nation, not a socialist one... Or at least it used to be.

Instead of a non smoking ordinance , lets inact an ordinance against nosey-unsatisfied-senile-seldo m laid-judgemental-has beens that can't have an orgasm without wanting to run other people's lives -You don't want me smoking in public , yet , you have a bowl movement , do a half wipe job , come out in public , touching everything in sight , without washing your hands - How do I know about the 1/2 wipe - look in your dirty underwear - See , I told you -

"A smoking ban will...stimulate the economy in Somerset."

How? That's just retarded.

It's not like Lexington, where you either dine in town at smoke-free restaurants or you drive half an hour to an hour to eat and smoke in Richmond or Winchester. If Somerset went smoke free, all the smokers would just eat in Burnside, five minutes down the street.

They could have a drink with their meals as well!

One in five people are smokers and according to the activist every death of a smoker is caused by smoking, everything from a death at 115 years old to someone in their teens with a 45 caliber whole in their head.

We are all aware of you socialist activist who do not believe in private property or property rights. You are of the type that would call a restaurant or bar a public building. Does the state waive all property taxes or they payed by the owner of these buildings. Did the government give these people the money to buy these businesses or are the mortgages being payed by the business owner. As far as the economy goes, everywhere a ban is implemented business go under at astronomical rates. The only studies that show otherwise are those financed by tobacco control activist. The funny part of this is that they go to local communities and claim that there is growth after a smoking ban. Then they go to the state and claim that the local bans are hurting the local communities and that in order to create a level playing field a statewide ban is needed. It just goes to show what liars these activist are. They lie about everything from the science on down.

Eh, I hate you non-smoking assholes! you made the choice not to smoke thats fine, im not sitting here trying to get a law passed requiring you to smoke, so why are you wanting a law passed to take my rights away from me? you selfish prick! everytime i see this come up on here i have to comment! I can't stand what our so-called "HOME OF THE FREE" country has became! Sonny's BBQ prime example... the old restaurant was great! we had our section you had yours, but now... we have a fucking porch with like 6 tables, WTF??? I have worked in Hotels since I was 15 years old, & these non-smoking retards would drive hours out of their way to find a hotel with a non-smoking room spending 100's of dollars more. wasting gas!, its ridiculous why not go to walmart spend .75 buy some glade air freshener and save a few dollars damn, its not like just cause its a smoking room theirs gonna be someone in their with ya lightin one up lol! this subject just gets me so pissed

All of u smokers should be locked in a room together. This is a disgusting habit and i shouldn't have to leave a restuarant smelling like an ashtray, because you choose to smoke.
Your clothes stink, your breath is horrible, and your teeth are yellowed with nicotine.

All of you anti-smokers should be locked in a room together. You are disgusting sociopaths and you shouldn't be allowed in a restuarant or any other location which is open to the public because you all smell like a sh!thouse on a tuna boat.
