This move may have a socialist aroma, but as a resident here, I see the need for it. Anti-trust laws have not worked. Price gouging rules do not apply since the price raises are not tied to disaster. I recently followed a convoy of 3 gas trucks from Knoxville to Somerset. One of the trucks turned at Somerset and 2 went to Lexington. A week later, I went to Lexington. The same brand fuel was selling 15 cents cheaper there How can fuel trucked 65 miles further be cheaper unless price manipulation is occurring. More power to Somerset for their move.

The gas prices aren't really that much higher than the surrounding areas. This is a power grab and thats really it.

cheaper in Somerset than in Richmond, Lexington, Berea, Stanford, Nicholasville, Danville, Lancaster, Russell Springs and Liberty. Also cheaper than the state average.
Give credit when credit is due.

i just ate KIA.. and you know my feelings on this greed for profits the oil industry are enjoying. pure GREED. them dinosaurs are not working any harder now to make oil now than in the fifties. i consider those who play with prices for bigger profits to be domestic terrorists . time was when cars started to appear, that the horse and buggy was the basic transportation. it was a luxary for wealthy to own a gas buggy. now...gasoline moves the nation.. cars, trucks, trains, planes use gas to an extent that it is a necessity for our survival. we cant exist without fossil fuels. the oil companys have us all by the throat and they know it.. they kick into the politicians campaign funds so much our congressmen wont do a thing to help lower the prices of fuel. about somerset being higher than surrounding areas.. TRUE. why??? no one really knows , but we all have suspects of who will shell out power to keep prices higher. and about the mayor and city selling gas to public.. it will work for a while until the supply of gas for goverment is forced up and kills the notion. the oil barons are that powerful.. that may mean higher taxes to pay for increaseses. it is a game with a stacked deck. there is enough oil surplus stored away in the US to supply current use in america for next 300 years and it can be sold at low prices with good profits. it is a conspiracy that goes deep into the american fabric, and until those powers that be realize they are the main cause of the financial crisis in this nation and they are the villians in this drama.. nothing will be done.. the politicians and oil rich barons need to realize that they are americans and they are strangleing our nation and its citizens with this nonsense. that is my two cents worth

I'm gonna "ride" the savings as long as the city station is open. Too bad they don't have another one on the south end of 27. The extra distance needed to drive to Chappells Dairy Road just might negate any of those savings. I'll find out eventually if it's worth it. Cheers!
