They should give their full name when they call, it doesn't make sense why callers can call anonymously. There should be a law that if their claims are false they would be prosecuted. After all CPS in a government agency. False calls waste social workers time and cause embarassment and inconvenience to good parents. Just a thought..

I would rather be safe that sorry. How would you feel if you thought something was going on and didn't report it....and then something horrible happened to a child? I wouldn't like it if CPS came knocking on my door, but, I don't have anything to hide. I would invite them in for coffee.:)

I should have been more specific. I'm talking about the ones who knowingly make false reports, that does it out of pure spite and meaness.
I don't have anything to hide either.

i agree with the OP, people that call the cps should give their full name when they report their allegations. i never have called cps on anyone but i would if i knew abuse was going on and would give my name.
my ex and his family once called cps on me. they told them i kept my child locked up in his room all the time which was a lie. they were hoping my child would get taken so my child's lowlife dad wouldn't have to pay child support and his family could have my ex to theirselves. that man is the worst case of mama's boy i've ever seen. but they just only proved how stupid they are. my house was found clean by cps and they know i take care of my child so the case is closed. yep, karma. it will come back to bite them someday!

I don't know how they would have any way of knowing who is intentionally making false reports and who is genuinely concerned for a child's safety and just mistaken.

If someone calls in a report and SS end up removing the child because of reasonable doubt which is all they need to remove a child...the parents are entitled to a trial. In a fair trial required by law a parent is entitled to a little something called "discovery". This is where you will find out who made the report, Exactly what they reported, who took the report..everything right down to what time it was. If the reporter left a name it will be in the discovery files. If they made the report ANON then all the info about the report will be there without a name. I agree that people should be required by law to leave their name when they report abuse. I also think that they should be required to file the report in person and sign a paper. So many people use the Child abuse report hotline as a way of getting back at someone or as a punishment and alot of people do it repeatedly. It would be alot easier to defend yourself in court when you have been falsely reported if you could prove without a doubt who made the report. that way anyone who has been proven to have falsely reported out of ill will and revenge could be prosecuted. having to actually tell them your name and sign a form would cut down on the amount of false reports as well in my opinion.

People who abuse Child Protective services should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, its a horrible thing to do. Calling them should be reserved for serious cases. Unfortunately its hard to detemine motives

If you see someone who is struggling, try to actually help them if you can. The system is very hard on children, you may be doing more harm by reporting if you aren't careful

The bottom line is the welfare of the child.
