The model was completely cancelled.

There is a place located off 914, west of 192, located in the same area as the Marathon station. They provide free food so many days a week, also have used clothes and other items. It may be operated by Eagle Heights Baptist Church in the same area.

If I recall correctly, one of the city council members STATED THAT THEY take all the homeless and people in wheelchairs to the county line and dump 'em.
There are persons and places that provide, but not advertised, temp care for homeless.
Check with any Law enforcement officer.
Bethany House Abuse Shelter, Inc takes donated clothes, toys, and other items.
It is overseen by Eagle Heights. I believe they also have something to do with a place by Big Lots that provides services. There are places here that help people but most don't see them or hear anything about them and just assume we don't have anything. We do have homeless people here but not enough to have the types of shelters places like Lexington and Louisville have. There wouldn't be enough of a need to get the support to keep it running.

It wouldn't require all the fingers on one hand to count the homeless in Pulaski County, including Somerset. Build a homeless shelter and it would be filled in no time. Care to explain why that would happen?

We donate as often as possible to God's Food Pantry and at least once per year to Bethany (Christmas). I think it's important to try and give as often as you can. If you can give one person a meal or a pair of shoes you've made an actual, practical difference in their life.

What is that old saying? You can measure the worth of a society by how it treats its most vulnerable members. I think that is a saying that has been stated by lots of people in different ways and it is, IMHO, a true one.

That is why I despise the attitude that some people have wherein they are willing to let people suffer because they don't want that one mooch to get something he didn't work for. I think that is a disgusting attitude. I hate a mooch as much as the next guy but I'm willing to suffer them if I can help someone in need.

if you had 5 homeless people it would be worth it, you better prepare for that to increase in the next few years and continue to worsen

That's what the third floor of the new city hall is going to be for, with a sundeck on the roof, with facilities for showers when it rains.

The other consideration while the new City Hall is being built is the Virginia Theater.
A few years ago, there were new installed windows to help keep out the wind.

Heck, one or two of the FEMA House Trailers in the middle of the foutain square would have helped.

Congressman Hal Rogers could have let people stay in his house, since he's away in Washington, DC.

Just a thought or two,........

true it is needed, but somerset is to cheap to put up one and no one wants to donate free time to help.people will give if someone has the means to get one started.like the empty building on borne ave. can be turned to a homles shelter.which people could stay for just a limited time.

There used to be a small homeless shelter that had 2 rooms and a kitchen. They helped people get jobs, etc. but it closed becasue the people were doing it out of their own pocket and no one would help.

If you are talking about the old apartment buildings on Bourne, they were condemned and torn down about a year ago. They had one too many meth labs in them. That is the only empty building, well used to be building, I can think of.

If you build homeless shelters, the homeless will become extinct.
Our government can not have that.
We have to preserve their way of life.

That's just another thing that has to be maintained by outside resources. A homeless shelter is an investment that just has to keep "giving" for it is hard to wean that kind of people off the "dole."
