Review: Alicia's Sirius Styling

Alicia's Sirius Styling is primarily a dog grooming place, but they also do some pet boarding. They're located right next door to my apartment building. Until recently, I've never had any complaints about them, and have also had no reason to rate them, as I don't own a pet and have had no reason to do business with them. I've never heard any barking dogs, so it seems like their building is quite soundproof. So they've been good neighbors.
So why leave a negative comment about them now? Well, I had friends coming into town for New Year's Eve, but they have a dog, and we can't have pets in our apartment (and I wouldn't want any, I might add). I told my friend that we had a place right next door that boarded pets, so it should be quite simple. I walked over there a couple of weeks ago and asked if they would be open and have room for a dog over New Years, and they said they would, and I got their contact information and emailed it to my friend. Fast forward to Dec. 30. My friend called them up to make sure that they were in fact open on New Year's Eve, and to find out if they could drop their dog off the next afternoon. They said yes. The next morning at about 10:30 am, my friend called and said they were on their way, but that he had just called Alicia's Sirius Styling, and that no one had picked up the phone. I walked over, and even though the sign said they opened at 8:00 am, no one was there and the "closed" sign was still in the window. I thought nothing of it, and thought that maybe they just didn't have any clients scheduled that morning, and that they'd be in that afternoon. I checked back at 12:15, and 1:15, and nothing, so I called and left a message on the voice mail. Luckily I was able to find a kennel about 10 miles away that was open, and we got my friend's dog in there (although at a much higher price).
On New Year's Day at about 8:45 am,(15 minutes after my friends had walked out the door to go pick up their dog), Alicia's returned my call. I simply said that my friends had found a different option, and hung up.
I don't know why they weren't open, but I do know that telling potential customers that you will be open when you aren't isn't the way to run a business.

Hi there, I just wanted to say that while I respect your experience with Alicia's business, I can personally attest to countless experiences of professionalism and great service. My family has been going to Alicia's for years and found everyone there to be so friendly and willing to accommodate our family's needs. We have boarded our 2 dogs, had our dogs groomed - one of them weekly because of a skin condition - and even our cat groomed and always been impressed with the quality of grooming, how gently our pets are treated, and how willing the staff is to meet our needs. I cannot tell you how many times they have gone the extra mile for us. I recommended them to my own folks who have dogs that they love like children and are quite picky about who they let care for their pets in both grooming and boarding, and my folks won't go anywhere else, they feel Alicia and her family are so caring and qualified. Really, these are good folks who love pets, and it shows. They have my and my family's respect. I just felt I should say something because for every 'mistake' or misunderstanding a person can make, sometimes there's so many other times where that person does something great. You just don't hear about the positive things. And in my book, Alicia's is the best.

I just wanted to state that Sundays and Mondays they are not open. Boarders are to be dropped off/picked up at 8am or 4pm. They do wait until 8:20 for people to make it in but not much past. After all, they do work 5 days a week and do need to take days off, but on those days off they come in to take care of lodgers and get them out to walk. This is posted on their release form and fliers/ business cards.

I was wondering if Alicias charges extra for matted dogs?
