Wetmore Kansas SUCKS-BIGTIME!!!!!

I went to school in Wetmore, and lived there, for about a year in the 90's. God, these people are sooo stuck up and full of themselves!!! I felt like an outsider, or someone alien, because I was gone for about 30 years!!! The people didn't trust anyone, new, and when I went to the grocery store, they watched me like a hawk!!! Even walked behind me and acted like they were dusting canned goods!!! Like I wanted their trash!!! IF I ever move out of California, and move back to Kansas, I will never go back there unless it is for a funeral-for the whole town!!! The only people that are good people are my cousin and aunt, but I hope they are spared and the rest of those bozos can go straight to hell!!! And, the people of Goff aren't much better!!! It depends on which side of town you live on!!! The only hospitable people are the ones considered "white trash" by the so called "HIGHLIFES!!!!" I think that Goff should be renamed-"GOOFTOWN!" And, the Mayor and city counsel, my God, they are a laugh!! A bunch of deweebs trying to run a town!!! That's small town government for you!!!! No wonder no one wants to come back there!!! YA'LL ARE A LAUGH!!!!!!

It's not just Wetmore. Some other places filled with mean-spirited, stuck-up people (who fashion themselves as being "salt of the earth folk") are Whiting, Fairview, Hiawatha, Robinson, Everest, Horton, Highland-- basically all of Doniphan, Brown, Atchison and Jackson counties...

I agree. Some people in Hiawatha are like that. It looks like sometimes some Hiawathans live in a rural town and act like they are living a city life. I live in Doniphan county but grew up in Brown County. It sometimes appears that if you don't have roots in a county you live you are nothing. Some people can't even wave. How snotty does that seem? But boy when there is something exciting happening, they are driving around, on their phones, and standing on their porches. Can anyone picture a coffee shop & morning gossip at a bank?????????? It goes on every day!

I lived in Wetmore for 10 years, I really enjoyed it. It was peacefull living, I didn't care what anyone else did or thought. It's to bad you didn'y get to enjoy it

Everest is one of the worst places. The people there were arrogant and intensely xenophobic. One woman commented that she was afraid to send her children to the local community college because there were getting to be too many "foreigners" there. My favorite story from Everest was when I was sitting in the local auto repair shop waiting for my car. Some local rubes came in through the door and it bashed me in the knee. He looked down at me and then walked on. His attitude was clearly "you shouldn't have been there." An apology was beyond the pale for him.

[Hiawatha]

Hiawatha can be a punishing place for people attempting to settle here. We've been here for over 15 years and are still seen as "newcomers." In that time, we've witnessed one family after another being chased out of the area, including professionals, many of whom were actually really nice people.

Yes, I agree Hiawatha is bad about that towards outsiders. Highland, Troy, and White Cloud are the same way. Shoot, if your roots are not from that town, they see you drive by in your car and know who eaxactly who you are and don't wave but when they see you spouse in the car, they practically break their neck trying to get in a good wave before they pass you by. That is so sick to see. And better yet, when someones passes away, they are on the phone to you late in the night even though you have worked all day and ask you to make something for a dinner that will take place after a funeral. Sounds like when they really want something, they are pulling the hair that they have left to get people to help when the help is needed.

I think that to live in Wetmore it is more of a life style, and a way of life. I have lived in big towns and little towns. I would live in Wetmore over any of the other towns. I have lived here for about 5 years, and I am going to stay here as long as I can. I have a young child and when I was still new at being a mother the town of Wetmore jumped in and gave me a hand. The first year of my son's life we were in a bad thounder storm and one of the ladies walk right into our house and told us to come over to her house because we did not have any place to go. My son steped on a snake and our other neighbor came over and took him out of our yard. If we need any help what so ever I know that it will be just a neighbor away. I can trust the fact if I let my son go out to play that he will not be kidnap or worst yet killed, he can cross the street with out getting hit. Before you say that Wetmore is a bad place to live watch the news one night and see that they seldom talk about Wetmore, but Topeka always has someone or something bad that has happed to somene or something. Wetmore is a place that I want my child to live, grow, and raise his family in.

I spent several years in Wetmore. I went to high school there class of 2001. I no longer live there, and I can say, I had a mixed experience. While most people there were fairly nice, there were some who were just down right mean. One person specifically, Fat Ass Kevin Larrison, actually had to the gall, some 3 years after i graduated, to tell me I was worthless and a backstabber because he heard I told someone Wetmore sucked. I was proud to have graduated from Wetmore and proud to have lived there until his stupid ass told said that to me. I walked up to the guy and said hi thinking I was catching up with someone who used to tend to my injuries in a basketball game. And now, I'm greeted by the hateful, rumor spreading people I was trying to avoid when I left the town to begin with.
It's too bad there are people like that ruining the town for the rest of us who enjoy the nice small town slow quiet environment, where you used to be able to trust your neighbors.

rumors spread fast in a small town. All small towns r the same. they have good people & the so called good people that can get by with anything. Bern was no excepetion. I know some people from Bern I would do anything for & the majority of them I would do nothing for no matter what. I would never go back there. the people of Bern need to open there eyes & see that one family does not rule the school & there children r far from perfect.

Small towns may be similar with regards to gossip and so forth, but they are not all created equal. I've lived in several different small towns around the state and found my time in the northeast corner of Kansas to be scarred by the memories of some of the meanest people I've ever encountered. They were narrowminded and didn't mind jumping to conclusions when it suited their needs. They'd spread vicious rumors based on nothing. They would do all of this while hiding behind a thin veil of moral superiority (because, you know, they belong to such-and-such church and conspicuously attend every Sunday.) The funniest thing is how these towns wonder why their "best and brightest" leave as quickly as they can and never return. Can you blame them?

small town or big town they all have people who like to gossip & spread rumors. Most people who spread rumors r jealous or have been guilty of the same thing they r gossiping about so they see everyone as guilty of the same thing. Going to church on Sunday will not save you no matter what church u go to. some of the worst gossips belong to the churches.

sounds like u r one of the snobs! some of the small town people can be really nice but then some of U think u r better then everyone else. Your term low class is snob remark its self. NOT everyone can have a job that pays $10 or $15 an hr. stop & think where would u be if there was no one willing to work the "lower class" jobs. As far as I'm concerned NO one should be paid higher then a fireman or a police officer. They risk there lives everyday some one sitting on there ass in an office somewhere gets paid more then they do that is not right. Do not judge someone by there so called class. I know some lower class people that I would trust long before some of the upper class trash.

I lived and went to school in Wetmore in 1938-39. I was the city boy. I gave the community lots of laughs but it was all good humored. My jeans didn't have bibs, my shoes ("slippers) were not clodhoppers, my shirts had flowers on them, etc. It was a fine year and I learned a lot about subsistence farming. Small towns are different but given a little slack they are fun places full of fine people. My family is all gone from Wetmore but I am related to at least a quarter of the cemetery.

i am a resident of Seneca Ks and it sucks here wasnt born here so me and my family have gotten the shaft so many times we are outsiders and you dont see many different races here just white everyone else is outsiders you are classifid as lowlife, trash or drug dealers if they only new that what most of their presious town folk do will be leaving soon cant wait wont miss it a bit
