Letters: Bridge lines

Full story: El Paso Times

It is surprising that at 9:30 in the night, people have to spend long hours at the Bridge of the Americas from Ciudad Juarez to El Paso.

Golly,
Bridge wait times at 6am was less than 15 minutes at every bridge...

So,
If a citizen must report to the airport at least an hour before departure for a domestic flight,

What is reasonable wait time to enter a foreign country?

The Mexican NOISE is unwarranted!

Get up and travel earlier seems to be a pretty easy solution!

I agree that we have much bigger fish to fly. I think we need to have the city investigate these on-line dating sites because I think they might be a scam. I recently responded to an ad seeking a Jewish man to accompany a nice lady on an evening out. I am Presbyterian, but I assumed that was close enough because Jews and Christians have a lot in common. When the nice lady saw the cross around my neck, she was taken aback and accused me of fraud. I assured her that I was a nice, clean gentleman and would not do anything untoward on our date. She insisted that I prove to her I was circumcised, however, before she would let me hold her hand. I refused, then demurred because I thought that was too personal a question. When she persisted, I finally dropped my drawers in the movie theater to prove myself, but that opened up a whole other can of worms with the patrons sitting nearby. So I think the council should authorize an investigation to see if these sites are on the up and up.

Translation from a forum entry, 11 years ago in a Mexican forum... done by "Arbus", one of the most interesiting users that I found in a Mexican forum.

----------

Today, sadly, follow the steps of thousands of "paisanos". I recived a visit from my relatives of the D.F., which I met in the Neo-Picasso of decadence of the "city" of Tijuana.

Heading to the north, we crossed the same line in which days ago a Mexican military shot a dozen of people "by accident". I asked the form I-94 for my relatives (which allows to enter US territory for more than 50 miles of the border).

The gringo of the INS had the occurrence of asking my granma, 83 years old and my nice, 17 years old a water bill to prove that they really resided in Mexico City, and they were not going like "pollos" or "mojados".

Who the hell travels with a water bill as identification?

My granma showed her card of INSEN and one as a pensionist from the IMSS, and my nice her ID of the University. Both with their laser visas and their passports in perfect form, I have to mention.

But still so, the migra (dumb gringo) insisted in seeing the water bill!! I showed my gringo papers and told the migra that my relatives only wanted to know the new Disney park "California Aventure". He responded my with desdain in his voice that a water bill and other documents (equaly disparate) were the requirements and only showing them he will give us the forms I-94.

For that, we already had spend an hour in the queue, among the garbage, smog and dust (and the fear that a soldier will fire by accident his machine-gun). He mentioned that the form had a cost of 6 USD per person.

"An unecessary humiliation" - commented a lady that equaly wanted that the cashier returned from her break or lunch to be able to pay. "Thats right" said I with disgust.

My grandma, naive octogenary original from Orizaba, Veracruz, asked the gringo of the migra, if mexicans that crossed this office use to stay or work illegaly in the USA (she asked innocently, out of surprise by the treatment of criminals we were receiving).

The gringo didn't understand the question (as usual) and turned to me, waiting for the translation to his language of humus primitivus. I translated the question, and the gringo turned red and with a mouth disfigured by anger and scorn, answered:

- Is the Reconquista!!... It's a done deal!!- He said that 50% of the I-94 went to illegal workers.

He continue: "I don't know why you Mexicans come to reconquer Texas, California and New Mexico. What you are going to do is to turn it in a dump just like your country is".

Then he said that Mexicans simply do not understand that they should not go to the USA to work or reside...(nor to visit, I may add).

The fat gringo migra, seemingly choosed a job where he have to deal with people he ardently hate.

After the humiliation, plus the insults to my country, I paid the $12 and follow my travel.

All Mexicans coming into the united states must understand, speak and write English after making applications for Citizenship and learning the History of America and the real defeat f the Mexicans at San Jacinto by the hands of Sam Houston and his Texican Army. Unlike you who want a reconquista, those immigrating here legally do not act as stupid as you who purport to be here legally (although I am sure some are not) the Texas rebellion secured the state of Texas and p[arts of New Mexico along the Rio Grande north past Santa Fe The war of 1846 then secured all of California, Arizona, Utah and the rest of New Mexico. Southern New Mexico was an actually purchase agreement between Mexico and the United States.

Our bridge times at the ports of entry are our on business and whatever time it takes to make sure the people crossing from Mexico to the United States are not terrorists, drug dealers or human smugglers, then the US Customs and Border Patrol can take all the time necessary. We are not just worried about some low level Mexican but also some Chinese, Russians, Iranians, and Iraqis. SO get off our case and go home.

You make some good points but you come across like that guy who kept shooting chili peppers up Lee Janzen's butt. A little tact would help your points be received more favorably.

When you plant a field t make a crop for money you don't need a bunch of illegals running across those new planted fields destroying some of the crops. When you work a field you don't need some drug pushing cartel members firing at you either. When BP chases after these people they are in legal pursuit of the appointed jobs and the federal government does not compensate for crop damage in those cases. SO to the people who back theses illegal migrants beware fo what you wish for. These low level migrants may one day take your job.

I don't give a good, sweet you-know-what about that because I don't need a job. My investments have paid off big time so now I just kick back and relax in my search for inner peace and fulfillment. I have found a true calm through meditation and so nothing can rile me up, including this immigration deal.

There is a place for you in Colorado where you can smoke all the marijuana you wish. You can even grow it to your hearts desire and then meditate with the weed all you want.
