Maybe the courts should let Pamela Balk's parents decide if this crime should be a death penalty case. I wonder if the decision would be different.

no. decisions such as these are best left to the law and not to emotion.

If shooting someone in the face point blank 3 times while that person is asleep, beat/mutilate the dog, steal one vehicle, crash it, come back and steal another vehicle from same residence doesn't get you the death penalty - what does it take? I think he should get the death penalty

AMAZING! What does it take for officials to do the right thing? Not only did he take the life of Pam, he has ultimately taken the very lives everyone that has known her. Their lives will forever be changed by his actions. Cold blodded murder, not an accident, not justifiable, just amazingly cold. No valid reason in my eyes NOT to seek the death penalty in this case.

Pam's sister.... My thought and prayers are with you, my sister spoke highly of Pam quite often.

Dear CMH,
My heart bleeds for you...I wont, nor should anyone else try to imagine what your family is going through, all I can offer you are my sincerest condolences and thoughts and prayers through this difficult and trying time. While I cant comment on the decision of the courts for fear of causing a family strife, I can say that no matter what the courts decisions are, it will never make a difference on the impact this has had on all your lives. What I will say is that, we all will have to face judgement one day for our actions, and I dont mean in a judiciary system. This is the only judgement that matters and will have the most impact on our very souls...I can only hope that your sister's murderer can make his peace and face the ultimate judgement of his actions in the end. I am Gregory's sister...and while I hate to see that he chose to commit this heinous crime and put your family through this, I also hate the fact that he has impacted so many lives by his actions. There are so many things that I would like to say to you and your family, but cant do so in this public forum...I dont want my family to be angry with me...but as I said before, in the end, no matter what the courts decide, he will recieve just punishment and judgement from his maker when the time comes...and while I know that doesnt do anything to soothe your pain, at least you know not everyone "on his side" agrees with decisions made. Please feel free to contact me at any time. God Bless you & your family in this trying and ultimately faith testing time...

Thank you. I'm sure it is not easy on you and your family as well. Like ripples in a pond. A rock thrown in - the ripples are far reaching. I'm sorry if I sounded callous. I am usually a very nice level-headed person. It was just so senseless.......and it's hard especially on my parents. Thank you again, maybe one day we will talk. I think I would like that.

Your callousness is completely understandable (although I wouldnt agree with your statement of it by any means)This entire situation puts all parties involved in such a crappy spot...on one hand, I grieve for your sister, whom I didnt know and I wish to God that he would get the strongest punishment...not simply for what he has done, but for the anguish he has put his own family through in addition to yours...to see the turmoil in my step-mother's eyes and the strain put on her very heart and soul at having to face the reality of what her son has done...on the other hand, I grieve for him, for destroying his own life and the lives closest to him. You are exactly right, ripples in a pond...the effects are far reaching and will likely be felt for a very long time to come. My only prayer is that everyone affected will one day heal and perhaps forgive...I am by no means one to preach the word of God, but I do know that He preaches forgiveness, and while that may not be for manymanymanymany years (understandably, as I will be the same) it is the only way that everyone involved will be granted inner peace. Once again, your family are in our thoughts and prayers. I pray for your strength during this difficult time, as I pray for his, and I pray for a speedy trial in which justice is truly served and I also pray that your sister is at peace with her heavenly maker.

Chris, I just found this site and was reading what people had posted. I have very strong thoughts on the death penalty. While I sympothize with his family and can't imagine what this is doing to them, why do I have to support someone with my hard earned money when there is no shadow of a doubt of his guilt. He chose his path and now it is time to ante up. Why do we have to pay for someone to have 3 squares, cable tv, rec room and free education. I cant afford to send my own son to college. Pam was one of my best friends and no matter what what going on didnt deserve what she got! Stacie

Chris, this is Denise from Texas. Like everyone else, I was shocked when I heard about the tragedy of Pam's death. I am so sorry. Even though we've all been out of touch for so long, those childhood friendships never leave you. I have prayed for your family and for Gregory's family. His sister is very sweet for sharing her thoughts and prayers. She is absolutely correct. Having a strong faith is such a blessing, especially at times like this. Perhaps Pam's death will bring those who are grieving closer to God. Blessing can be born from tragedies.
