That's exactly why my Grandfather left Hancock County in the 30s. Just nothing happening. Maybe that's the reason why, that anywhere in the U.S. I travel, I meet someone from Sneedville or Kyles Ford.

Would the population support a wal-mart, that would be great if it would. I'm not sure what the population has to be, that would provide jobs, but then Harrison Hardware, Sneedville Electric would probably have to shut down, would have no business. Could that be the reason there is no wal-mart?

Harrison would probably be ok, because of the personal service and items they carry that Walmart wouldn't. But...in a way you're right. It would be a risk but businesses have hung in there despite Lowes or Wal-Mart because they changed their way of thinking and selling.

willow, we can have all of those things you mentioned but the county goverment dont build these places the people does there no jobs in the county to cover the expense of having a wal-mart or a McDonald's or Long Johns ... someone like me or you has to purchase a franchise in that particular food chain and it could cost as high as 250k just to buy in to it just like wal-mart.. so who is willing to start one up in the big town of sneedvillle..
