All the certified officers out there, and Lavergne is sending people to the academy. I guess Sena Mosley will raise your property tax again.

Would you rather have them out on the streets and not know the current laws?? By sending them back to the academy they learn more. It's the same thing it you were to go back to school and take a refresher course in your field of work. I would rather see someone trained to better serve on our police force than not.

I just recently moved to LaVergne and must say I love it. The place I previously lived had a population of over 2 million so a small town is a nice change. One thing I have noticed and don't understand though is why are there so many cops for such a small town? I can't leave the house without seeing someone pulled over and me an my wife have a running joke on how many police officers we count during a simple trip to the grocery store. It's ridiculous! The township in the city I lived in before LaVergne didn't have as many cops as they do here and it was larger by twice the size. The few people I've met here outside of LaVergne always comment on the LPD first thing as soon as I mention where I live. Is it really necessary to have that many officers? Is LaVergne crime ridden? Wouldn't it help the local tax if there weren't so many?

You misunderstood the previous comment. A Certified Police Officer has already been through the police academy and would not cost the tax payers nearly as much to hire. On the flip side, there are many no good certified officers out there that department hop.

It's a sad affair I agree and yes it is a waste of money.

Unfortunately for those officers that are already certified there are many departments that won't hire them because they are seen as "spoiled goods". Now we know that is not the case most of the time. And frankly it is sad because seasoned experienced officers often have certifications through specialized training they have received throughout their career that even more benefits the department and the public.
The academy is the most basic training you can have and to be frank it hasn't changed much in 20 years. Every officer gets updated on law and procedure change every year through annual training.
