Fair tax would end all loop holes and most of the lobbyist and pork barrel problems.
The fair tax would also increase revenue as undocumented workers paid under the table still have to buy stuff. And the wealthy would pay more as they spend more, so that should make wealth haters happy.

Actually the "wealthy" do not spend in nearly the same ratio as the remaining 95% or so of us. This is part of why a flat tax will not work. The problem with a "Fair Tax" is determining what is fair and who gets to make that determination.

I agree that the tax code needs a major overhaul, but so does the rest of the government. The real shame is that there is no way to escape it short of hiding out on public land so remote nobody will bother looking for you. There is no Gault's Gulch for any of us.

A fair tax with everyone paying the same percentage of their income with no deductions would make everyone pay for the privilege of living in America. The wealthy would pay more if their deductions were eliminated. It would be wonderful to be able to eliminate the deadbeats from their earned income credit. The most who don't want it are tax preparers, tax accountants, and tax attorneys, and the deadbeats who get money for just being alive.

People who are wealthy are practically being punished for being smart with their business.(I say practically bc they aren't literally being punished for those of you who would focus the argument on stuff like that.) Just bc people are making more money, doesn't mean that they should be taxed more for actually trying to be successful and having good work ethic. Welfare is practically socialism. People with poor work ethic should not be rewarded for being like that. It is human nature to be lazy but some people go against the laziness of human nature who become successful and are punished for it.
Stupidity.

Spot on with your assessment. Welfare as we now have it in America is a true form socialism by which we take from the producers and give it to the non producers as a reward to do absolutely nothing but breath and propagate more non producers. Bill Clinton promised to stop it, but he lied just like all the liberal democrats. Bill was busy with an under the table activity concerning a cigar when he told this whopper.

I do not want to go to the extreme of accusing Obama of trying to destroy the country as some of you have.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not an Obama supporter. We can't accuse him of trying to do terrible until there is solid evidence of him doing so. For now we should just consider him stupid.

Closing a loophole with a percentage of tax layers on the other side isn't ideal.

Raising taxes is avoidable. I am a Fair Tax supporter, but Ben Carson is on the more realistic path.

I agree with your first statement, but what's the point? Should the wealthy pay more (a higher rate) because they earn more? We already have that.

Although your point is about a flat tax, the Prebate in the FairTax lessens the impact on the "less wealthy", to the extent that a family at the poverty level of income has no FairTax, as it is offset by the Prebate.

"The problem with a "Fair Tax" is determining what is fair and who gets to make that determination."

That's normally a comment I would make, but a pretty smart group of people came up with the proposed 23% rate, which is fairly close to what's already out there in imbedded (or is it embedded?) taxes...

I'm ASSUMING there would be a government agency (hopefully not Congress) that would determine any rate changes.

A minor problem to deal with if we were to implement the FairTax, IMHO.

All these "sequester" predictions of doom and gloom, being thrown out by Obama and his administration; where were they way back when, when it was Obama who suggested it in the first place? Where were they when Obama signed it into law? This whole deal has been thought out and calulated and enacted as an Obama strategy. As Woodward said today, madness.

Actors and musicians make their fortunes one movie ticket and one CD at a time. The money is in the masses. Not in taxing the people who make lots of money.(their money is probably overseas anyway)

I'm pretty sure the fair tax is an across the board sales tax. And the flat tax is an income tax rate same for everyone.

General,
I see why you would want to say that Obama is doing this on purpose, but until there is solid evidence, we cannot assume that he is actually trying to be terrible. Like I said before, we should just consider him stupid.

Nope, they already own it all! In all seriousness they do not pay out the way the rest of us do. Many of them are wealthy because they have generations of wealth thanks in part to having stable families. This means they have established family homes (some call them compounds) and raise generations there. They don't blow 4/5ths or 7/8ths of their weekly paycheck on survival.

I don't see how Obama got reelected bc I have not heard anybody say any good reasons why he is apparently such a great president. I think most of America just didn't care about politics and just voted for Obama to not be racist. Only a few people that care about politics and follow politics actually somehow still support him.
How on earth did he get reelected?
