This is a shame. We had our wedding rehersal dinner there and it was a special place. I am all for progress, but trends like this do almost as much to harm Atlanta's history as Sherman!

The house is a special place for me my mom worked there for years so I was always there and no a lot of things about the place probably more than most will ever no but to go and destroy a historical geographic layout is wrong dam you at least sherman left the place what's next you going to tear it down ppl that don't appreciate history should never be aloud to have such things as this very beautiful living breathing peace of history the 1848 house! To all that care thank you for your support.

Your the A$$. How do you know anything about the history or the grandeur of this great old house you from NM (New Mexico).
I was married at the 1848 house in 2000 and had frequented the establishment for years before.
Unfortunately, I will never be able to take my daughter to the location or let her see a true local historical landmark.

I was fortunate enough to trace the old pie safe that was in the 1848 house for over one hundred years to Savannah, Ga.,where I purchased it,and it is in my house in Dalton, Ga.

I am watching a show, Haunted History, and they just showed the 1848 House. I decided to Google it, as I live nearby and I wanted to go to it. Just found this site amd join in with those who are disappointed we lost a historical building. athis piece if our history should have been preserved. What a shame it's gone.

I'm not sure why all the historians here are so angry. The house is in private hands and the current owner takes great pride in it. The owners spent a lot of money to restore the place and it looks beautiful. I too hate when we demolish history for the sake of progress, but the house stands as a wonderful piece of history. I know because I have had the opportunity to go inside a couple of years ago, I also drive past it every day as I live in one of the townhomes that surround it.

Ate at 1848 House with my love in 2001and have dreamed about returning there ever since. The staff, meal, building, grounds and activities were wonderful. I wonder who the chef was? I live many hundreds of miles away and have been back in the Atlanta area only three times since and could not find the restaurant despite finding a very similar building in a very different setting.

There seems to be one comment saying that the Historic 1848 House is not torn down. Most of the posts say it was torn down for townhouse developemnt. The 1848 House was a beautiful piece of history, I surely hope it was not torn down. I have been looking forward to visiting the area and having sunday brunch there again. Very sad, indeed.

The 1848 house was never torn down. It is privately owned and preserved. The lovely grounds with fantastic magnolia trees, grand entrance are gone. This historic house is surrounded by condo's which is a shame. We were married at the 1848 house. The house, staff, food, fall colorful hardwoods were wonderful. I wish the historic society would have stepped in to preserve the house and grounds. It is in private hands and stands preserved today.

I truly hope that this landmark remains. We had our wedding reception there in 1986. The history of this home in the American Civil War should not be lost. At the time, it was a phenomenal restaurant. We will always cherish its place in our lives.
