Yes, you are ridiculous. Blame, blame, blame, blame, BLAME. That's all you liberals can do. IT IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE DENTIST FOR YOUR DAMN PROBLEM!!!!

I am not sure what to think about this. Just because of State payment, doesnt mean that kids should go through any pain. My issue with Kool Smile is that they wanted to cap 15 of my sons teeth with no proof that they needed it. I have Medicaid for both of my kids and sadly that is the only place approved. I hope that after this suite they will reconsider who my son has to go see. I am unable to pay out of pocket. And I can't and wont take my child to Kool smile for anything.
Maybe they will have a dentist at Best Buy, while you are shopping for that 60" Flat screen TV and latest laptop that you somehow can afford. People can afford dentistry, they just don't want to pay for it.

Cigarettes, beer, quarterly cell phone upgrades, beach trips, and nose rings are just higher on the priority list.

It is obvious that the kool smiles system is an organized crime. They were once on the news alot for doing bad things to all of their patients, especially to children. I think they only changed their company name, hoping to continue this crime without getting caught. The FBI should investigate kool smiles immediately. We need to let the law handle it, and don't do anything hasty.

Wow, this whole thread is very interesting. I am a 17 year old who hated dentists more than anything else in the world because when I had braces, my ortho was just awful and made me hate dentists. When my braces were finally taken off 3 years ago, I never went to the dentist since. Now just last week my mom forced me to go, so of course I went. I dreaded the idea, but still... When I went, the first dentist told me I had buildup and that I needed some x-rays. The guy who took my x-rays was very kind and when he put that metal thing in my mouth, it hurt (because of wisdom teeth coming out) and he quickly took it out and asked me if I was ok and replied 'yeah.' he started again, and finished. The dentists were very kind to me and today I went to get a deep root clean or whatever and it went very well. In fact, I'm looking forward to my appointment in two weeks.
My younger brothers (aged 5 & 11) also go there and haven't had any complaints.

I tried Kool Smiles in Maryland and I thought it was terrible. I should have done more research before taking my child there. I called another dentist at the Pediatric Dental Center of Frederick in Frederick MD and talked to them. They do not restrain children and they were very pleasant to talk to. I have been there several times and they are amazing with kids. It's a busy place but very efficient.

So many differing complaints my 3 boys have been Kool smiles patients for 3 years now they had more emotional damage done to them by the local clinic than Kool smiles. Any cavities mine needed filled were tried in office but if they couldn't calm down they were referred for sedation dentistry an hour away. They have never been restrained and I have always accompanied them back there. Siblings are not allowed back with them for procedures (anything more than a cleaning) and this is where most parents feel they can't go back, however my office has always allowed my other kids to sit with them behind the front desk and color or play in the waiting room.
I have only stopped them from working 1 time and that was when I felt enough was enough. The handful of other times they rescheduled for when my kids were a little older or referred out for sedation.

My experience happened 2 in half years and I find myself in tears everytime I even slightly think about it. My daughter was 1 and 2 monthes old. She went in for her 1 yr. Check up. First they put her in a room with a whole bunch of other kids, then when seen the denist never cleaned her teeth before saying this one needs caps. I had seen caps but honestly was clueless as to how they got there. X rays were done. They had me hold my child even after i told them I was pregnant and it took 10 min. Because they where busy talking about there work schedule. They never told me results or the precedure they were going to do and I trusted them. The worse the scene got the more I fell into disbelieve causing me to freeze up. They tied my 1 yr. Old daughter completely down, she started screaming. They handled her like a thing and not a being, let alone a baby. They then took there time as she screamed and then stabbed 4 needles into her gums. No sensitivity at all. She screamed and fought with all her might saying "its okay, its okay, ". Trying to sooth herself the way her daddy and I would when she gets hurts. She fought so hard her head fell off the table and the denist grabbed her by the lip to put her head back on the table. I couldn't breath I couldn't move, this couldnt really be happening. They man handled her, not once even spoke to her. Then when we walked out I ran with my daughter, got in the car and we both cryed horribly, she was rubbing my tears away and me hers. While my husband kept asking "what happen" since they didn't let him in. It was 30 min later before either of us began to calm down i could barely get the words out, but I finally told my husband. For so long I thought it was my fault, I was a horrible mom for letting it happen and for the cavities, I later learned she never had. I cried myself to sleep for monthes and my daughter was terrified of all and any kind of offices. We were in a bank once and when they called my name to go in my daughter threw herself on the floor, her body went cold and she shakes really bad while screaming bloody murder. We had to leave. She did this at the doctors, and even the medicaide office. She took a year before she stopped going into those terrors. My daughter stopped talking and I infact lost the baby girl I was pregnant with at the time of her appointment. We have not been to a denist since. I'm too scared to take her and she won't go. One day about 3 weeks ago we passed that kool smiles and she starting pointing and telling the office building off, and it hit me. My baby remembers and I broke into tears of anger towards them. Something has to be done. Our children need to know we r here to protect them. Where can I start? What can I do? Plz help

When my now 16 yr old started going to Look Smiles everything was fine at first. But after a few appointments they said that she had to have a filling. When they did that filling they had inject her with numbing stuff 3 times through the procedure because when they first injected her they left her for 20 minutes and then came back and started working her. After that they kept saying that she needed fillings done and every time they'd do them, the numbing stuff would wear off and they'd have to inject her again. Also few months after she chipped her tooth and they put a cap on it, and the cap started to come off. They didn't replace it, the just rubbed it smooth on the tooth. So after her having more than six fillings done, even though she brushes her teeth 2 a day and flosses, I switched her to a new dentist , where we found that one filling wasn't done right so a cavity had formed on top of the filled cavity. I don't think that she need all that dental work done. I felt sorry for her and I feel sorry for the other children that have been torture at Kool Smile just so that they can make more money

There is so much information floating around in this thread it's hard to sift through. Here are some facts:
1. Kool Smiles accepts private insurance, so it's ignorant to assume that every person who has been there and complained about their treatment (or mistreatment) is using public assistance. I have personally been there, as an adult client with private insurance, and received poor treatment tantamount to some of the scenarios described by other posters.
2. Children of the ages being discussed here aren't legally allowed to work, so even if they DO have lousy parents (which most don't, btw), they are at the mercy of the adults who care for them - including dentists. No child deserves to be injured or tortured just because of socioeconomic status, and it's a slippery slope to start a dialogue that trends that direction.
3. If parents did at home what some of these dentists from Kool Smiles are allegedly doing, their children would be removed & they would probably face criminal charges. Willfully causing harm to a child is abuse, no matter who is perpetrating it.
4. Dental problems can be genetic, environmental, or a combination of both. For example, my husband has poor dental health based on genetic factors, despite following a strict dental regimen. Dentists - and members of the peanut gallery - who believe that a child with cavities must have crummy parents should do a little more research.
5. Services targeting families are more successful when providers and parents work as a team. Dentists, if you want parents to take better care of their children's health, then educate them in terms they can understand - jargon free. Parents, if you have questions or don't understand why something is happening, ASK, and don't stop until you get answers that you're comfortable with.
i totally agree with you when u made the statement about if parents tortured their children the way Koolsmiles does,it would be CHILD ABUSE.I have seen some pretty horrific scenarios involving small helpless children being restrained while having needles drills and bite blocks placed in their mouths.I've witnessed 4 children who havr actually urinated from being so frightened.i will no longer be working for a company that abuses children to make a buck.so sad,and i am ashamed that i didn't do something sooner, but i have already contacted a Lawyer
