i have recently had to fall back on medicaid assistance due to a lower paying job. after being layed off the first of the year. i don't feel like i (myself) abuse the system. i have been a productive tax paying citizen for 13 years. and have payed in almost 4000 in taxes every year so that's what 52000 that's why you pay (appropriate) taxes so that in hard times you can use these benefits.

I am not sure what to think about this. Just because of State payment, doesnt mean that kids should go through any pain. My issue with Kool Smile is that they wanted to cap 15 of my sons teeth with no proof that they needed it. I have Medicaid for both of my kids and sadly that is the only place approved. I hope that after this suite they will reconsider who my son has to go see. I am unable to pay out of pocket. And I can't and wont take my child to Kool smile for anything.

And thank god you all arent the leaders in this country, ppl would b suffering right in front of u and u wouldnt care! How Sad! I hope u pray that God allows u into heaven with a heart like that. Money isnt everything! Having healthy children should be our number 1 priority, even if they arent your kids!
First of all, not all of us who work hard to make money GET that money because it's taken away to be given as assistance. I made $1500 last MONTH and my last dental bill was $2000 so don't talk about having money to pay dental bills when it's all taken away.
And obviously those of us who have so much money taken away for assistance WOULD be missed because then who would pay your bills?!

Before you make statements like this, maybe you should educate yourself. My granddaughter is a Medicaid recipients, but not because she doesn't have a job, is lazy and just lives off the government. She works full-time and is a full-time college student but her job does not offer benefits because she is what they call intermittent. She is a young mother, but let me address this to your way of thinking, "She did not have her child while in high school." How about you address these lazy fathers that don't help support their children, which cause these mothers to have to get Medicaid so their children can have health insurance and the insurance companies who will not allow you to put your grandchildren on their insurance because of a custody rule. Therefore the next time you decide to judge do some your research.

You people are crazy. take care of your childs teeth and their won't be a problem. My son is now 15 years old and he has never had to have dental treatment. He goes for a cleaning once every six months. I don't buy or give him junk foods. I cook we do not eat fast foods. Get a life people and stop trying to get on the band wagon. If the suit do go through you probley won't get but 53$. And don't go spend that on Mcdonalds.

I've only just heard about this lawsuit and was surprised. My 3 girls have seen Kool Smiles dentists since they were each 6 months old and they've been nothing but angels to my girls. Yes sometimes children freak and cry at someone they don't know doing something unexpected. They have an appt tomorrow and my 3 ye old is looking forward to it. She loves them. I'm so sorry so many people have had horrible experiences.

My son was also treated very inappropriately at a Kool Smiles office in Killeen. I would love to know if there are others here in the Killeen area. Any to those making remarks about "freebie's" and medicaid etc; we paid CASH up-front before our child was treated. Now they are billing us for treatment that we already paid for!

Who really cares what insurance the kids have or what "mommy did" to not take care of her children's teeth? Some of these stupid comments that are blaming the parents must be coming from people who work at Kool Smiles. NO CHILD DESERVES TO BE TREATED HORRIBLY!! I left the office (in el paso Texas) crying because I couldn't handle the way the nurses were treating my then 4 year old. My daughter never finished or visit and we will never go back.
By the way, to all of you s*** talkers, I used private insurance in which I DO have to pay and yes we too were treated badly. For those of you just joining the convo, many people in previous comments were posting that if you use Medicaid your child deserves to be treated poorly.

Don't listen to these Piece of crap haters. I am a tax payer and pay for my own insurance and took then to this hell hole. Only difference I was when I saw them grab my kids like that I scared them with my reaction. We left without paying and went to a better dentist who used humane means to do there job. You morons who respond with comments about types of insurance and parenting when kids are being mistreated are soulless pricks and I would gladly meet you and punch you in the face for your inability to be sympathetic and empathetic. I am sorry for any and all children who had to suffer for any reason. Cavities, bad breath, as well a other health issues are sometimes heredity and sometimes environmental factors, and doctors / dentist should be providing services in an unbiased, friendly and secure manner. If they don't they should accept the consequences. For all you idiotic Americans who base everything on finances then I hope you reap the behavior you sow. I will gladly pay taxes to help any and all who need help as that is the ethical thing to do. Christ did it, why can't we. So a family gets free healthcare, so we should send them somewhere that does surgery with no anesthetic and say deal with it since you don't pay? I hope and pray that all of the haters end up poor one day and have to deal with these same issues.

Your an uneducated and ignorant idiot. Please tell me how much of your hard earned money goes to welfare? You probably don't know and should research it cause it really is not that much especially as a percentage from your mere 1500 per month. And if you pay 2000 in dentist bills I would consider a better insurance or welfare assurance aide your getting screwed.

They over filled my childs tooth, so now even the slightest wrong bite of something can break the whole thing in half. He is always in pain so its either pull it or do a root canal. He is young and shouldn't have to have either done right now. This is ridiculous.

It's not free. My taxes paid for it. I have worked (& paid taxes) for 20 years. And if I now need the help, by God, the gov't. better give me some of that back!
That is so true we all pay in to medicaid . And to another comment that is also true not all people getting medicaid are free loaders, and i dont think that when it comes to a childs care what ever a case may be should not be any less or any more than the child that was blessed to have parents that work and make good enough money not to need the extra help. We can not penalize the kids for dead beat dads or moms and for the company that there parents worked for going under and jobs being terminated that forced them to ask for help that thay paid into before the need was there. Lets not forget the kids have no fault and should get the care that is best no matter what. Dare i say where would we all end up if god were to say you are to poor to get in the gates of everlasting glory.

Wow, the whiners at the freebies they are getting. Sounds like you've raised some more wussies for children!!! As a young child, I had headgear, braces and everything else imaginable. I left plenty of times crying because it "hurt" so bad. But my folks didn't sue, they gave me tylenol or advil and *gasps* I was ok. We live in a sue crazy world. If you would take care of your kids teeth in the first place they probably wouldn't need all that extensive work done to their teeth!!! Even if you do "fall on hard times" you can still get insurance through your work or if dental insurance isn't offered you might just have to set up a payment plan!! It amazes me how many people with kids this young that need that much extensive dental work. What a shame!! Instead of buying an expensive car or getting your nails and hair did and having a $400 cell phone, save that money and pay for your own stuff. Just because free medical care is available doesn't mean you have to take advantage of it. It if wasn't available you'd find the money!!

I am very saddened by the clueless people of America. The reason anyone of you jerks that claim they are sick of paying for CHILDREN'S medical actually have the right to freedom of speech(even though it shows what selfish pigs you are)is because of what our country stands for. We are as a whole responsible for each other. Just because a family gets medical assistance doesn't mean that a price wasn't paid for that or that the family doesn't work. I have to say that I do get help with medical for my children, but guess what? I am NOT a lazy Mom who just sits around waiting for a free handout. I am so sick of the discrimination and the stereotyping from the idiots like you. I am a full time student, I work and I care for my husband who is disabled. He is disabled because he fought for your friggn rights! Sad thing is that everyday he wishes he could do it again to help more people. Even the ones like you. Meanwhile he can't even do normal day to day things like we take for granted. So the next time you wanna just say the child next to you shouldn't get care because it is paid for with our taxes, maybe you should think twice! Even with that said, should ANY child have to go through pain or abuse just because the parent isn't the one paying for it out of pocket. I would hate to see what would happen to you if you had ever gotten hurt or lost a job and needed the assistance yourself. JUST PITIFUL!!!!

Freeloaders cry and whine more than any class of losers known. Just watch at the Dr's office when one of those Medicaid scumbags comes through the door expecting the red carpet treatment. Hell son, if it were up to me, all folks on Medicaid would be sterilized.

YOU were negligent for not holding him down and brushing his teeth at home twice every day.

Trying to restore the damage YOU are responsible causing is tough when you are dealing with children.

I can't imagine why they didn't turn you over to DHR for abandoning YOUR child's dental health at home.

YOU are just another irresponsible liberal just looking for a cash bonus for being ignorant.

Yes. The parent's COMPLETE NEGLECT of NOT taking care of her child's dental care at home should have been investigated.

Don't take the child to a dentist if you don't like to see how they have to sometimes take drastic action to restore the damage that you allowed to happen. You people are so ridiculous.

I bet you voted for Obama.
