My 5 year old had to have extensive work done in Dec of 09. He was in horrible pain and they would not even stop to let hom calm down or catch his breath. They acted like he was just whimpy or something. They told me they had given him everything they could but he was still in obvious pain. I was horrified, but had to act strong for him. It was the most painful thing I have ever had to watch and there was nothing I could do. I can't imagine how he must have felt. And they just did not care!!!

Lisa, why did you stand there and watch your child treated that way? Hope you did not pay the bill. Oh, you did not pay, this is another freebie people get.If you do not like what the tax payers are paying for your childs dental work, get your own dentist and PAY for it.

Unfortunately some parents do the damage before the child even gets to the office by saying be good or they are going to give you a big ole shot etc. If you don't like the way your child is being treated tell them to stop treatment and leave. They can't force you to stay. They will chart evetthing that happens and is said during the appointment. Some kids are afraid of the toothbrushing they get from dental professionals courtesy of mom or dad.

This is not sedation dentistry, so of course your child will suffer just as adults do.....Unless patient is sedated they will feel some pain, so unless you are wanting to pay for sedation dentistry, deal with it.

When a 3 and 5 year old need that much dental work, sounds like mommie wasnt doing a very good job at home. Also It is a fact that the children given free dental care are being treated the most.I have never seen so many kids with caps on baby teeth.

Those of us who are receiving the "freebie" treatment are also taxpayers, mind you. And don't you think we WOULD go somewhere else if we had the financial means? Seriously.

My 4 year old's experience was horendous. We are not talking about a little needle prick here. They strapped her in a straight jacket from her neck to her ankles & then just went in on her without saying a word. She screamed in horror from the start to the finish. I begged them to stop & let her calm down, to talk to her & Explain what was happening (like their brochures SAY they do). They responed "she won't listen to us 'cause she's busy screaming, so what's the point", "just calm down mam, this is normal". My baby girl kept gagging on her spit because they had her laying down flat. I wanted them to sit her up at a slight angle, but they just kept snapping at her "If You'd Breath Through Your Nose, You Wouldn't Choke". She left broken. Her spirit had altered, I could see it in her eyes, in her stature. My precious extrovert who'd never met a stranger couldn't make eye contact, wouldn't even look up to accept a toy. It was my first moment of motherhood where I felt I'd failed my daughter.

You mean to say "what kind of dental work did MY 4 year old need". She had 2 cavities filled. The dentist advised me that bad teeth can be hereditary. That if I was born with poor enamel my daughter likely would as well.

Well I certainly would not take my child back to that place.Sorry your child was so upset. So check around for a good dentist. You and baby daddy will have to pay, but maybe it will be better on your child.

My 3 year old granddaughter went to Kool Smiles in Evansville Indiana for an initial dental exam today and was treated in an abusive manner and is now traumtized in the same way that these parents are describing. I have managed a family practice office for 13 years and you can believe that I WILL PERSUE THIS LEGALLY AND IN THE MEDIA. No child should endure this type of treatment and I cannot believe that there are people on this site that are suggesting that children who happen to be on the Medicaid program should have to endure this abuse and that parents aren't doing their job if there child has a cavity! I personally had a child that was born 2 months premature which damaged the enamel on his baby teeth and he required dental care as a 3 year old and it certainly wasn't my fault. I was blessed to have found a caring dentist for his care thank God!! Parents should continue to fight this abuse and the rest of you should be ashamed of yourselves!

People are so hostile. You can't be certain of the experience you are going to have when visiting a new dentist. How can some of you just jump to the conclusion that because a child needs serious work, it is the parents fault. Do you live there with them? Do you see how they are being raised?

I pray you fall on hard times and need assistance one day so you can feel what these mom's feel. The child, no matter what the families circumstance. Been drinking the poison "tea", huh? I suppose you think poor kids here should live like they do in India scouring dumps to survive, huh?!?

You are clueless. Dentistry does not have to hurt. If you are feeling any pain you need more Novocaine or they did not hit the nerve with the anesthetic. Even adults don't have to suffer! You do not need to be sedated to not feel pain. The sedation at the dental office does not stop pain anyway it just calms you way down. You are seriously misinformed and what these parents are posting is child abuse and these dentists need to lose everything and go into auto mechanics.

Well Peg I have been on hard times for a while now.I work every day, but most of my pay goes to insurance. We have so much deductibles and co-pays we do not go to the doctor like we should. I have dental insurance but it does not pay much. I can not afford to go to the dentist. I see so many kids with caps on baby teeth, and if they have a loose baby tooth, mom takes them to the dentist, because it does not cost her any thing. When services are free, people abuse them.I know of a family that got on welfare. One of her 5 kids were at the doctors office or emergency room at least 5 times a week.Abuse of the system is what I am talking about.

Also, my husband had surgery last week. For every doctor he seen and the hospital it was co-pays.People on welfare paid nothing. He made the statement We should sell what we do have and get in the system. Same doctors, same service. The nurse said You are not the first one to say that. Many people are starting to feel that way.
