Start with the school board then the director. Evins is up for election this time. He will be opposed by a Hale that works for MTG company. People I have talked to say he's a good person. Rhody is also up for election. Kenny goes along with Dub and Charlie, so people in the 3rd needs to find someone strong to run. Kenny shafted his brother when Myron was school garage leader. He is Dub's puppet. Be nice if Myron would run against Kenny.

Sorry to bust your bubble Flo,but the county commission is the only thing keeping the run away train, known as the Willoughby,Evins and Robinson show spending in check.I appreciate what the commission does, without them standing against these 3 tax and spend bureaucrats you wouldn,t be able to pay your property taxes, there would be no money left to fund the other county services. If the schools can't educate our children on 20 million dollars, maybe it is time to start slashing salaries of the fat cat director, central office staff and adminstrators.
I feel all who criticize Willoughby or the commissioners MUST take a look at just HOW MANY commissioners are either educators, or have family members who are involved in our education system. Do the critics HONESTLY think they don't have the best interest of our youth in mind?!?! They, as well as Willoughby, have TOUGH decisions to make. Unfortunately, neither entity, Commissioners nor School Board, are ALWAYS going to agree, nor is it possible for either to please EVERYONE! As a person who has been employed as a DeKalb County educator, for nearly 20 years, with ties to the commissioners, and Willoughby as my "boss," who has also been attacked by people, here, afraid to state their names, with slanderous, untrue statements, feel BOTH ENTITIES do the BEST they can to try to effectively and cost efficiently, meet the needs of our education programs! Someone, here, said it best, "Schools don't teach children, TEACHERS do." And, as someone who once would have been discouraged by the SLANDEROUS SMUT, these nameless people post here, HOLD MY HEAD HIGH, for I KNOW the things they say are untrue (and the people who KNOW me, know so, as well), and I WILL NOT BE DISCOURAGED by jealous people with ulterior motives for posting such lies, but instead, will continue to LOVE teaching, my students and watching them succeed...and, by the way, SUCCEED, THEY DO! THAT is MY priority! NOT dwelling on slanderous lies posted by ignorant people who, obviously don't even KNOW the people they're referring to when they post this "CRAP!" I feel the people of DeKalb County are much too intelligent to give these people the attention they seek through they're constant harassment. I wish these INSECURE LIARS would print their names...oh, yeah! Guess they can't without DEFINITE legal action being taken against them. So, all I have to say to them is, "Chin up, Nobodys! Maybe someday, you can make REAL contributions to our community!" ;) lol. And, to our commissioners and Mr. Willoughby..you're ALL in my prayers! You have difficult decisions to make. I know the two entities don't always agree, but I have SUCH RESPECT for all involved! I wish you lots of luck and well wishes on finding a middle ground. Your duties are exhausting. Your decisions may not always be the best. You definitely don't always agree, but, I truly feel the decisions you make, are indeed for the best interest of our education system and of the citizens of DeKalb County. Keep up the good work...ALL OF YOU! I wish you peace, and hope one day soon, people don't see the views of each entity as selfish or self-serving! You ALL serve our community well!

To "Local Teacher," I think Evins is behind the majority of ugliness shared here, through lies and half-truths! Ummm...Why is he in any type of authoritative role? Didn't he steal millions from his own sisters? Maybe I was misinformed, but feel pretty sure that is correct. He's also a stoner from way back! If he was an intelligent man (and it doesn't appear that he is), he would keep his mouth closed before some of his misdeeds come back to bite him. God knows he has plenty of skeletons in his own closet. I remember years ago, and he was a board member at the time, him driving around in his little red corvette, chasing high school skirts and providing young girls with as much alcohol as they could swallow, and often a little Mary Jane to go with it! He is the biggest disgrace to our board of education! He makes the others who support him, and call him their colleague look as pathetic as he. Such a shame nobody mentions the real Mr. Evins!

And I'm quite sure YOU are ONE OF THE MANY tied in to the system through nepotism and cronyism. TOUGH DECISIONS MY BEHIND! YOU are part of the problem. We will vote these people OUT! Willoughby and his family gravy train will be headed down the road!

To Pro School it is sad that someone can't share their opinion without being jumped on. Regardless of who is right and who is wrong everyone is entitled to their own opionion and people who can't respect that is like a child throwing a temper tantrum to get their own way! You are entitled to your opinion, state your facts and stick to them (more power to you) but don't attack and get ugly just because someone doesn't agree with you. If you take my advise I guarantee you will have a much more pleasant life. This goes for everyone on this forum!!

The only thing that is SAD is that we have allowed this type of behavior to continue within our school district administration.

Well, school administration at its best! Teachers of DeKalb County were requested to not have a Christmas party this year, but to have a Winter Party. This liberal, money spending administration has got to be changed. Start with school board members this year. Evins and Rhody are both running. Jason Hale is going to run against Dub, but who will run against Kenny. We need a strong candidate to start cleaning house. Who's your choice?

They are corrupt, have been corrupt, and will continue to be corrupt! If the teachers support them it is simply because they get by with murder!!! Teachers are not held accountable! There are teachers in our system that bully students and parents and get by with it! I am sick of it........ELECT NEW BOARD MEMBERS!

What about all the money spent on the new courthouse!! Was that really needed? Look at the conditions of our schools, something needs to be done for them. Or why can't we get something for our young people even Sparta has a YMCA!!
I will say this...I am just now realizing how serious the problem is after speaking to parents whose children graduated from high school in Smithville and the teens were CLUELESS absolutely clueless as to what college was all about, what to expect. They are struggling. Could be a coincidence, but if this is true, that does not come from the board that comes from teachers and principals I suspect. I will say I am so unhappy with the meth problem, the collusion and corruption in that town. I am unhappy that there is no public transportation to speak of, no sidewalks, no movie theaters, no growth whatsoever and yet that big highway they added to going through snow hill was put there for what purpose? There is never more than 3 or 4 vehicles on the road at one time it seems. Do not get me started on other things like a judge who can represent his client and than hear a child custody case and refuses to recuse himself. There's an appeal in the makings right there. It goes on and on and on. No wonder Smithville, TN has the highest suicide rate of all rural areas in the United states. Religion is nice, cops are great for keeping the peace. but when you have a known drug dealer/thief and menace to society driving reckless and hurting so many of our children arrested and released over and over (Scott Sykes) and put in the county jail instead of a state facility where he belongs after cooking meth in his house (running his mother Linda out of her own home and cops come over arrest him only to have the judge go easy on him for reasons I suspect are corrupt...one has to wonder which came first the chicken or the EGGS. Such a beautiful place, Smithville, Centerhill Lake and God knows I can afford to buy a home there but I am AFRAID to raise my daughter in a town who does not have her best interest at heart.

I lived in Smithville for 2 years and coming from a vibrant safe City Simi valley in the Canyons with nature in my backyard I know now I would never, never voluntarily return to a place like Smithville, TN. Even if I live another fifty years, I would not expect to see Smithville undergo the kind of cultural change it would require for it to become a place where I could stand to wake up in the morning. I need to live in a place where people are tolerant, progressive-minded, and supportive, where culture is held in high regard. Smithville and other rural areas are populated by people who are bigoted, reactionary, suspicious of anything new, and unwilling to do even the simplest things to make their lot in life any better.

Madison is expected to educate herself and after kindergarten was given two workbooks to take home with her for what they did not have time to cover? My jaw dropped. How many school trips, parties and snow days to the schools have to have? I myself, have strived to obtain higher education for Madison with websites like these below and strongly encourage those parents who do have internet capabilities to get the kids onto these websites and have them spend less time on facebook or war games.

I am heartily sorry for friends of mine who have remained there and who now wonder what happened to their lives, especially the women who feel the oppression but who resist the thought of leaving.

I think the people who stay in towns like that do deserve what they get. Jimmy Stewart is not going to ride in at the last minute and remind everyone of how great things are. Even the people who resist change are usually unhappy with the way things are, so their recalcitrance is doubly maddening. No amount of free land or student-loan forgiveness is going to replenish dying communities with the kind of high-quality educated folk these towns seem to think they'll hook. What they'll get are people who'll take their money and complain every day about living there. The town gossip, the refusal to accept intelligent outsiders capable of improvements, team playing and willing to contribute their own talent and add value to a community is even more of a disappointment. I will never return there as a resident.

Speakign of Bullying, I am apalled at a teacher I heard (Madison's kindergarten teacher) telling one student a black girl twice in front of me that she would be spanked for touching my daughter's balloon. It was valentines day and during a classroom party. The girl did nothing wrong. Perhaps it was annoying...maybe even annoying to my daughter, but to say that to a student in front of a parent is classless and made me feel like I had fallen into a time warp. In this day and age anywhere else - Nashville even..a teacher CANNOT say that. It is so inappropriate. I wanted to tell the principal, go to the board anything so it never happened again, but what good would it do. They would see me as an outsider and tell me off. I would like to SPANK THE TEACHER!

Alot of what you said is true and sometimes the truth hurts^^^^^^^^^ This town can do alot better than what they do. People are silly, they tell you to leave but yet they're probably going out of town to shop and eat and etc....people need to grow up! I'm glad some people think we do deserve better for our community. I agree Jessie!
