I made an "unexpected" visit to Smiths Grove, earlier this month and I would like to thank all of the people who helped me in so many ways. My story is a bit long, but it's important to tell a small portion of it so that you will understand just how much was done for me. I was in Nashville when my ex boyfriend found me and hurt me. He was put in jail but he had my keys. I went to the hospital and the police told me I wouldn't be able to get my keys back, so, while the police watched a man hotwired my vehicle so that I could leave before the assailant returned. I am from Oklahoma but the safest and closest place for me to go was to Kentucky. The assailant also took all of my money, but one of the Nashville police gave me $40 dollars to make the trip. After filling up my tank I thought it would be ok to get something to eat and drink, and I got a paper, which took most of the money once again. After driving into Kentucky I stopped at Smiths Grove to call my friend and let him know I was safely out of Nashville, and I thought it would be ok to unhook the wires to my car. I bet you know what happens next huh, yeah, I couldn't get it started again. This is where I met all of the angels. I was at a convenience store that had a used car lot and auto repair shop owned by "Cotton". One of the customers was getting ice, so I asked him, embarrassingly, if he knew how to hotwire a car. I felt like a criminal, so I showed all of my papers, title, proof of purchase, you name it I showed it, he told me he didn't but thought that someone inside the store that he knew could help. About five different people worked on my car that day. The employees of that store deserve an award for being so kind and helpful. There was a young lady who called the Chief of Police to help me, he called over Cotton, and then when we saw that my car could not be fixed, they called the local baptist church and they paid for me to get a hotel room. Then, not only did Cotton give me $20 to eat on, he and his friend fixed my car the next day for free. Please help me find, atleast, the names of these people, so that I can thank them properly. If you have any valuable information I would greatly appreciate it. I have never been so blessed in my life. I am so proud that there is a town like Smiths Grove out there, and you, who are from there, should be proud to be residents there. Oh and by the way I made it home safely, to my family who was very scared for me and prayed for me alot. You angels are proof that God answers prayers, so thank you.

Having grown up in Smith's Grove and knowing the type of people that live there, I'm not surprised in the least that you were assisted by a group of angels. That is the way most of the residents are. Only a few give it a bad name.

Why say something like that on such a positive post?!? Go back to Glasgow forum. Ron may not be liked in Glasgow(childish), but he's liked around here so go away with your negativity!

Thanks!!!

I was born & raised in Smiths Grove and live there now. "Cotton" would be Charles "Cotton" Cowles who lives on Main Street and the Chief of Police is Tom Soy. I am not sure when you came through so it might have been Johnny Vance.

Cotton is not as helpful to everyone like you think. A few years ago, I had my car worked on. I was told how much it would cost to fix my car and was told it would take a few hours. I thought it was an honest price so I agreed to let them fix it. The next day, I hadnt heard from them. I thought maybe they were backed up with work coming off the interstate so I didnt call. On the 3rd day I called and was told it would be ready the next day. On the 4th day I ran into the guys at what is now known as IGA. They told me that I had something broke and it cost over $300. I asked questions about how it happen and was told it was already broke. Little did they know that I had that part replaced 1year earlyer.
What happen was they broke a part and tried to make me pay the bill. I called COTTON COWLES (owner) several time and left messages about what happen, and he wouldnt answer the phone or call me back.
I pick up my car and gave them a check with the amount that I was given. I told them I was not paying for a part that they broke.
Later, I found out that the 2 guys were selling tires to the old people coming off the interstate they didnt need. I will never go back there or any place cotton owns. He didnt try to help me!!!!
