At one time this used to be a nice bridge.. they kept it painted.. looks like it hasn't been painted since i was a child... also at one time u had to pay to cross this bridge .. used to be a booth at the other end u paid a quarter to cross it..this is a great picture.. really shows how old it is.. From what i read up.. this is one of 3 bridges like this in Pa. this one is the oldest..

Iremember this vey well. As a kid, we called this "the singing bridge" because of the metal decking.

The piers for the new replacement bridge have been poured on the south side of the old bridge and some of the steel decking is now being set in place. I was over that way last week but it was a bit too cold to get out and take a few pictures.

I'm just south of Carmichaels. I grew up here and have spent about 90% of my life in the area. Over the years I have gotten to know quite a few people in Greene, Fayette, and Westmoreland counties. |

Hey Guy's Im from Point Marion, our family lived on a small farm just across the river from Point marion. I remember when the bridge had a tool booth and I believe it cost 5 cents to walk across and 25 cents to drive.

I remember the tool booth as well. My dads family lived a couple of blocks away on Water Street. And my moms family lived on Mckinley Hill, where I lived.

I remember walking across this bridge from the Greene county side, we lived on the old Kovach property just above the Lock and damn, my brother and I walked into Point Marion to visit my Aunt Marge Kovach, she worked at Hunkers drug store behind the soda fountain, wow brings back good memories.

Joe,
I grew up on Walnut Hill. I live in Baltimore now for the last 27 years. Hunkers Drug Store brings back more memories. I ALSO remember your property. |

I grew up in Pt. Marion too. You can see the news videos of this great old bridge being imploded at KDKA's website. Shame these older bridges aren't being preserved- this one was so visually interesting. Crossed this lots of summers on the way to MonView to swim!
|
||||
|
I went to Mon View a lot as well. We had our family reunions there for many years. Sure going to mis the bridge, but, I also miss the old, rickety Cheat River bridge too. I'll have to get home and see the new bridge.
