Wow! In this day and age for someone to take it upon themselves to say that they will not marry a couple because they re not the same race is stupid.

I've been married to someone of a different race and religion for over 42 years and we re still very happy. Our kids are great. All went to college and doing better than we were financially at their age.

Come on America, what say you over this idiot in Louisiana

I say we shouldn't force someone to do anything that they feel is immoral even if we don't agree.

How can marriage between a man and woman of consenting age, love, and commitment to each other be immoral.

As a Judge, this person swore an oath to uphold the law, not to bend it and change it according to his own design.

This was not a case of anything immoral by his own admission. This was simple racial profiling.

Shame on you Deakon! How would you feel if your God given rights and lawful rights were violated?

Did you even read the article or did you just want to have your name in file? Think before responding?

Racial profiling is not only by color but by how we live, where we live, our religion, our political stance, who we love, what we choose as a profession, to what we wear.

But Law in this country is still protected and should be a beacon light that it will work and that we can have our basic rights met especially by the courts who are to uphold these basic freedoms given to us by our country not to mention God.
sorry

Sorry this country still has idiots like this

Sorry our kids are subjected to racism

sorry that a person who is suppose to uphold the law is to arrogant to do his job

Sorry that common sense did not keep this man out of the courts and robes

Sorry that our country is so lazy that we allowed this person to become a judge

Sorry that we are all still living with such hate for each other

Sorry that our children still use ugly words for each other at schools

God help us all because we are a sorry lot of people if this is still going on in our world today

I'm assuming that this was the only judge in LA that could perform a marriage. I'm sick and tired of all the "conform to my ethics" demands being made today. You've never refused to do something that you didn't want to do? His logic may not be deemed acceptable but inaction is his choice. Maybe you're anti-choice? I personally couldn't care less as to why he didn't marry them. If it's because they're not the same race, then yeah... that's pretty dumb. But it's still his right to refuse... even if it costs him his job. Gripe and moan all you want... forcing someone, against their will, to do what you want is called "slavery." Maybe you're pro-slavery?

Sorry Deakon, you are wrong! As an elected official it is the judges duty to comply with the law. If he cannot in good conscience perform his duties, then resign.

BTW... He's a Justice of the Peace and not a Judge. The couple were not denied they're right to marry. The Justice refused to sign the certificate and referred them to another JotP. It's his personal belief that the result of interracial marriage is harmful to the children and usually result in divorce anyways and he doesn't want to be a part of it. As screwed up as that may be, he's still entitled to his opinion... Whether it costs him his job or not. I'm an ordained and licensed minister. I've performed several interracial marriages and a few same-sex unions. I've never taken any form of payment other than the sharing of the reception buffet but only when one or both of the newlyweds were personal friends. But there has been times I've politely refused. One particular situation comes to mind. The groom was a known sex-offender, heavy drug user/manufacturer and was abusive to bride. She had a black eye and swollen lip when she asked if I would marry them. I could not, in good conscience, sign a certificate. If I had been forced to marry them, I would have felt guilt over it for the rest of my life. I would have felt that MY rights had been taken away.
He's an elected employee of the people. If he isn't fired or have resigned by next election then I'd be amazed. But if the majority of the local population re-elect him... Well... That whole "product of your environment" thing doesn't just apply to inner-city youth.
Oh... BTW. I seen the picture of the couple in a news article. He could do much better. Especially if he'd get a buzz-cut. She looks like Beaker from the Muppet Show.

There is a big difference between a JoP and an ordained minister. As a minister you are free to make the choice of who you want to marry. As a JoP is does not matter if you were elected, appointed, or paid for the title, you are still a public servant and you take an oath to uphold the public trust. As far as your comment on how she looks, that was tacky.

Yeah... I'm kinda tacky.

I was just trying to point out that the headline was false. They weren't denied marriage. They were referred to someone else who signed the certificate. Mountains and mole-hills come to mind.

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Aquarius

This is another day when financial matters cause trouble, as Mars reverses in your seventh house. What started off as a minor niggle with a partner or an opponent yesterday could now escalate into a full-blown row, but at least this will give you the chance to get certain things out into the open. Legal issues from the past may become ugly. If you're pointing the finger of blame at someone, don't get so heated that you accuse them of everything under the sun.
