There are rumors that Parnell Vann a local business owner will run, Cammie Hambrice who sits on the A&P Commission, Ken Sibley the owner of KVMA and a friend of the current mayor. I have thought about running and still thinking. The very first thing I would do above all else is go on an all out assault against crime, reduce poverty, and improve education. Crime spruces it's ugly head due to poverty, lack of after school education help, and opportunity. We need to declare war on crime, period. People are paying the max amount on their taxes and getting minimal amount of returns.
just wondering

I want to create a new, more modern economy for Magnolia, and try to become more technologically advanced and improve the quality of life for Magnolians.

The paper had Leonard McKinney and Sam Whitelaws name in it. Personally, I'm not impressed with any of these people. Ken Sibley won't be running. Parnell Vann will be running because I see him kissing butt all over town. He would actually be a worse mayor than what we have now. For the sake of Magnolia, I hope we have others that throw their name in the ring.

I don't know who Mr. McKinney is but Sam Whitelaw would be a very easy target to beat. A city councilman with the current problems going on..... he'll be very easy to beat.

Here's what I've heard about those two people so far. Those names have been mentioned by others, but those two have not formally said they would run.

Of the names above, Cammie Hambrice would be the best candidate. She has a get-it-done personality, understands the difficulty of running a business, and appreciates the importance of style and tone in getting people to follow one's leadership. Don't want to dis any of the rest -- several have their qualities. Magnolians have a tendency to vote more for people with agreeable personalities than strictly on ability, which would seem to give Sam an edge, but again, of these, Cammie strikes me as the most capable.

Cammie probably would, but she also has a strong voice with the council. Anyone that has to do with any type of government is vulnerable now.

I highly doubt the disgust with government trickles down to a city-level. The outrage you see is aimed at Obama and his goons who are trying to ruin America.

Correction: they already have ruined America. Many just haven't realized it yet.

Anyway. No new rumors in the Banner News today. I've heard a few other names bouncing around, but as far as I know they could be total rumors, so I'll refrain till I hear something more definitive.

No Get Real you forget, every single incumbent lost in the election of 2009 that ran in a race. Yea the Republicans won 2 races, they also lost 2 districts that were heavily Republican. People's outrage has nothing to do with Obama. The People are tired of getting shafted, EVERY single incumbent is in trouble. I study politics and work in the field of politics and work with the US Congress. I know what goes on and how people feel towards Congress. No matter what kind of government it is. ALL POLITICS ARE LOCAL. People vote based on their situation first above everything else.

We'll see friend.

If you have a connection to Obama, healthcare, or this stupid "cap and trade" bill, I'd suggest YOU look for another line of work.

For you to suggest the city council or JP's are in "danger" because they are incumbents is naive.

Get real, I never said that I was connected to anyone. All I said is that I study politics, work in the field of politics, and do work with the US Congress. So stop trying to add words into my statements and digest better the language that I wrote. As far as JP's they only hear cases, they don't set economic policies, create laws, or have to provide for the security of the people. They are strictly for interpretations and rulings of the law. As far ac city council, if a person who is strong enough and has a track record of producing good results and run against a current city council man who has produced almost no results and has let Magnolia go into decay;then yes, the are all vulnerable. And for you sir, to pretend that they are not is a naive statement.

Hate to break it to you, but this did happen a few years ago. I think every single person that challenged an incumbent for city council got beat. Remember Steve Carrington and Joe Bussell running?

We'll see. You seem to think there is a connection between po-dunk local elections and national elections. It's just not true, but if you want to think so, more power to you.

Yes, get real I do, and any smart politician will tell you, All politics are local. People elect leaders to represent them and bring home the bacon, if you don't bring home the bacon, you don't get re-elected.
