you must work with frontier, since they used to try to tell me it was with my end too, except they used to say it was a modem issue and have a guy put in a new modem every couple of week
No i don't work for them! Just trying to help!
Doesn't Suddenlink have Internet Service in your area? Comcast is rated the highest in the U.S. for fastest Internet Service. Wish they were here in Logan Co.
I know that if it's peak time ( Lot's of people on the Internet) Frontier will come to a crawl.
Remember to always Defrag your PC or Laptop and keep the registery clean and do a hard boot once a week to keep it like new.
I run CCleaner and JetClean everyday and Auslogics Disk Defrag once a week. Kingsoft PC Doctor is another good utility to keep your pc/laptop running fast. I also use Kingsoft 2012 free Antivirus and Malwarebytes (Free) malware remover.
To test your Antivirus go to http://www.eicar.org/85-0-Download.html if it doesn't stop it ... get rid of it. It's a safe file. It's a fake Virus.
RoboScan is another great free Antivirus, it's a huge download though. It has three AV engines in it including Bitdefender.
Bitdefender is rated at the top of AV's one version is free.
I use Kingsoft 2012 along with Bitdefender Trafficlight on Google extension.

This is a REAL Malware site. Test what you got by going to it.

game.cdcctv.net :88/game/my.htm?yg.mm111.net Kingsoft and Trafficlight catches it.

I'm pretty darn good with computers and am probably considered an intermediate to advanced. I fix computer problems for people all the time for free as a hobby. I have Norton 360 which takes care of all that. Norton 360 is good as it gets. I usually notice that in the evenings where peak times occur, the buffering of videos and browsing the internet gets slow. Sometimes I try rebooting the modum or router and it helps for a little bit. It is a Frontier problem. I'll bet everything I own that it is. The problem gets worse during power outages and storms such as snow or thunderstorms. I'm home all day and in the mornings through the evening it does alright. But in the evenings through the late night it's extremely slow. Do not, I repeat do not go into your computer and change settings thinking it's your computer. IT IS A FRONTIER PROBLEM!

unfortunately only frontier offers internet in my area right now. as soon as someone else services this area i am changing. after dealing with them for 5+ years i know when its a congestion problem. theres a different between loading slow and cant even stay connected and getting booted.. and it gets worse when the weather is like this, because they say they need to replace the lines outside on the poles but they never do. they do as little as possible.. enough to get a temporary solution that doesn't last long at all. it sucks to only have frontier in this area, they'd be great if they would actually fix the problem instead of temp fixes that last a week-month and give customers a run around. i emailed corporate, though i doubt that will help

i have tried a different modem (i have an extra that they sent me when they said it was a modem issue but it wasn't) and tried taking them both to factory defaults, restoring my other laptop to factory default as well but was doing that anyway since i wanted to easily wipe it clean after getting a new one. also a many number of reboots. at least i know that it isnt just me now and is a wider area than just my little neighborhood :) thanks for the input!

Not a frontier problem it's a peak, then they need to disconnect a lot of people if they can't supply them what they pay for??? People need to call the attorney general and complain!!! Not right to take our money for something we don't get!!!

Goodluck, I'm having the exact same problems as everyone else, after trying a new modem and all the tests the techs put you through over the phone they finally figured out the problem was on their end in the lines (after me telling them the problem was not on my end that all my neighbors were having the same issues) anyways been waiting on someone for 3 weeks and still havn't seen them. Everytime I call all they say is someone will be there today (still waiting) I finally called them today and told them they could deduct the internet charges from my next bill because I wasn't going to pay for something I havn't had in 3 weeks. They knocked $55 off my bill and said someone would be here by Friday.(not holding my breath on that one)

A quick reminder to people about internet problems. Every provider has its pro's and cons. With telephone DSL, the closer you live to the nearest substation that belongs to frontier, the better quality you will recieve. The further you move away from the substations, you will loose speed and quality. DSL has an advantage right now because although you may live 5 miles to the closest substation you can get some connectivity, mainly because you getting a dedicated direct line into you home for DSL only. Remember that the phone jacks(even the ones not being used) need to have a DSL filter attached to them to eliminate "noise" crossovers. Now for cable internet. You can live in Ten-Buck-Two and if everything is perfect you may get good service. Cable internet shares the same information line as TV information. Cable runs in a spherical motion as it travels through the main line. If you have good quality lines, RG-59(normal TV supply lines) and good clean signal from the tap,the signal at the end of your service line shows little loss, noise, and packet loss your ok until...you decide to hook up three TV'S and then a cable modem, then your gonna have issues. Lets say your house is 100' from the closest tap, with a tap value of +16. Your port on the tap, that goes to your house gives a reading of +12. Well that is great. Then you loose signal for every inch of distance from the tap port to the connection point at the side of the house. You then have a reading of +10, which is still good. Then you will have to use a two line splitter put on that connection. For each output you automatically have a -4 loss, which then brings the value to +5. Then you have to make a jumper for the other port. Which you loose about -1. Now youare at +4. Then you have to connect your three way splitter to the jumper. Those ports are the ones needed to run your three tv's, which will put you another -4 per ports leaving you with a value of +/-0. That is good enough to run up to expanded basic to each t.v with fair reception. The other port on the two way splitter with the value of +4 is what you need to run to your cable modem because of the higher value. Which in a perfect setting is great. But with cable you can have packet loss, noise, or fluctuating speeds because the cable shares tv transmissions also, if you have a bad splitter, connectors jumpers or a bad drop to your house, that will affect the quality of signal and packet loss. One of the main problems with cable is water getting in the system. And if you live 275-300'away from the tap, they really shouldn't try to install cable internet to your house unless they boost the amps from the closest amp box on the main line. The split works when the tv channels are at different frequency waves that seperate tv frequencies from cable frequencies. I iunderstand that shentel is currently in the early stages of going completly fiber optic, which instead of sound frequencies to deliver info to your home it will be light frequencies. In the fiber optic spectrum, each different color of light is a seperate and unique frequencies to deliever more channels through each seperate points of light and internet speeds that could be up and around the T1-T2 speeds. Then you better hope your computers prosesser(s)can handle the speeds going into it.
Also, prosesser speeds can limit current internet issues if the prosesser(s)can not handle the speeds coming into you computer.

here we go again, another lame excuse?? I only live about 3/4 of a mile from a substation and it sucks as well as the ones who live next to it... The same problems as all others. My theory would be the trashy lines, and the poor lack of intrest to the customers. They are like any other company as long as they get your money, you can complain all you want. And you'll here every excuse possible that's not their fault.

why should the customers have to put up with, and have to worry and to try to fix something we pay for but do not get? The problem is they are the only provider here and they know we can't change providers, so they don't give a sh- t about if it works or not but you will pay for sure!! Don't pay and see how long it takes them to cut you off?we should have to try to come up with ways to make it work....

After nearly 13 years with Frontier (Citlink) I switched to Shentel internet service about a month ago. So far I don't regret it one single bit. My DL speeds would drop as low as .2 Megs at times with Frontier. Every time I have checked my speed with Shentel it has been almost 10 Megs no matter what time of day I check. I am very, very happy so far.
