I'm shocked that they didn't consider taxing the Internet or perhaps this article just failed to mention it

If they would work on child pornography alone it might be feasible. The Internet is free. So is spam though most hate it... If you ask me go after people that ruin other peoples credit. It is a major problem and secure the country from threats of violence.

I feel that this is making it impossible to keep the major crimes from happening. This is overkill.

"Banning online harassment also has become a focus for legislators following the high-profile case of a suburban St. Louis girl who committed suicide after being taunted online by a former friend's mother posing as a teenage boy."

How about extending this law to include the much larger problem of face to face 'mean girls' harassment of other girls? Bullying has been happening in the real world for much longer than it has online. Why not attack the root of the problem instead of a tiny little twig?

It sounds like lawmakers are running out of work. Why not just have a layoff and have them collect unemployment like the rest of us do when work is slow.

That bill will be considered in the next session. The internet tax will apply to ISP addresses located within Illinois. Once passed by the state and signed by Rod "slick" Blagovich, the issue will be discussed at the next crook county budget meeting. Todd "turtle" Stroger will assess a 1% tax on internet access within cook county and .05% for ISP addresses in the county. Not to be out done, the Chicago city council will adopt a measure that requires a city sticker, for computers that use wireless internet service. The sticker will be renewable annually, and must be attached to each computer that accesses a wireless connection. Mayor Daley will applaud the city council and state it is good for the people of Chicago.

The Illinois Senate should be busy with the bill to recall elected officials. Too bad Emil Jones will never allow it to come to the floor for a vote. Shame on the Illinois Senate.

The only problem with this "feel good" stuff is who is going to
enforce it and who is going to pay for it. I beleave this comes under the heading of an "unfunded mandate" which I think the
legislature made illegal a while ago. In addition they seem to agree it ain't going to work anyway so why bother?

Vote out all these useless leeches in the legislature. Do they really think the state has no pressing problems to deal with?

I am amuzed by the nit-picking on "offenders" when bridges are falling down and schools are in sad shape. All they want to talk about is banning "offenders" from Myspace and Facebook or living an inch too close to a school. Next they will ban "offenders" from drinking Mt. Dew because the caffeine will make them touch someone on their pee pee part. These lawmakers are a waste!

I think this is just more feel-good legislation to take attention off the conservative republicans who have THEIR eyes on the little ones! Hmmm?

People, remember these names during our next vote!

Look around at our society, our economy and the utter lack of understanding these “lawmakers” have for the world we all live in, as opposed to the elitists life Illinois politicians obviously enjoy.

With as horrible as Illinois is in itself, do any of us have any faith whatsoever in any Illinois lawmaker to have anything at all to do with internet regulation?

I think it’s about time we start getting something back from our politicians. About the only use I can see for them is as hog food on a farm in Nebraska!

Am I the only one that feels the whole “lets vote them out” rhetoric has gotten too stale to swallow?

Anyone else ready for the revolution to start?

Hypo is right -- our lawmakers are just there to do what Mayor Daley wants. blogo is a puppet (like Stroger) who will be gone next election be it via recall or voted out.
Daley is the big wheel in Illinois, but he has to go before anything will get better anywhere in this state. If we have to cut our way through Emil Jones and the rest, so be it. Let's get started!
