Evacuating a Macy's? I bet that didn't take long.
Now, if someone had threatened a Marshall Field's, there would probably actually be customers there at the time...

Did any one die?

Matt, it was probably one of the employees from Macy's dying of boredom from so few customers in the store, probably wanted the rest of the afternoon off.. No one on the northshore shops at Messy's

I was in the mall when this took place. I had walked out of Victoria Secret and saw that there was hardly anyone walking around. We had heard rumors about a shooting taking place. We saw security gaurding nordstroms where we about to walk in. They told us that everyone is being asked to leave the mall. They said that they were not allowed to tell us what is happening. When we went into Magianos (next to Nordstroms) to find our parents, the place was not closing down and everyone did not seem to know about the threat. The police weren't allowing any cars past the food court, and no cars were allowed to get in to the mall. There were many police cars and ambulances around Nordstroms.

Not to make light of bomb threats, but I bet it didn't take long to evacuate Macy's....

Amazing. A report just came out that 1 in 100 adults in the U.S. are in prison.
...and it still isn't safe, even to go to a mall.

I was at the movie theater when I saw the police outside with a lot of fire engines. I told my mom that something bad might of happened but she ignoried me. When I got to my house I went straight online and saw this article. I was so scared that I showed my mom and said I told you so. She freaked out. Shouldn't they have evacuated the whole mall? Well thank goodness it wasn't a real bomb in the stores. If it was we might all be dead(if it was very strong).

I love close to the mall and it's where my baby sister works. What is wrong with this world? If someone wants to draw attention to themselves with a bomb threat, they need to make it more obvious. Then the officials need to make an example out of that said individual. This needs to stop. Honestly, what is this world coming to?

Luckily I wasn't in the store today when that happened, but I work at that store and heard some other inside info..... and I don't even want to go into work tomorrow. You would think that because of the recent shooting that had happened in a retail store. that stores would beef up security, I think suburban people don't take these things seriously. You better believe that if I get an twinge of uneasiness, I will be out of there.

I was at the mall tonight too and had no idea about the threat. I got there about 8pm and there were security guards everywhere and a fire engine or two, and the west entrance of Macy's was completely blocked off with police tape. But no one told us to leave. It appeared that only half the mall closed. Everything east and south of Macy's was dark, but the other half of the mall was as normal. I was wondering why the security guards kept giving me funny looks as I walked though the darkened part of the mall with a huge box (I was trying to return something). They must have thought I had their missing bomb!

How pathetic to use this quite serious incident to trash Macy's. With over 80 million in sales at Old Orchard in 2007 (the average macy's does about 35 million), I am sure there were quite a few customers in the store. More than quite a few!

You know what? GET OVER THE FACT THAT IT"S MACYS! And FYI the store was busy, it was scary, I work there. Make light of the fact that we live in a society where no one can even feel safe working in the suburbs. Skokie of all places!

I pulled into the mall around 7:15 PM. Trucks, ambulances and coppers all over. Immediately, I turned on Newsradio 78 to find out what was going on.
I would hardly use the term "closed." While none of the store were open, believe it or not, there were plenty of people milling around. Some probably just assumed that the mall was closed. The theaters were full so was Potbelly and Chammp's.
So I guess I feel compelled to ask our beloved "first responders" if a bomb had existed what would have happened?

i heard that the police search all the empolyees at all the store and check there cd players and they even broke the cd player and they search there ipod and almost brake the ipod.they also ask for there social and there name. the empolyees couldnt do anything about the cd player. I would of been piss and tell them off. and if there was a bomb i would of been piss caue they didnt let anyone know until the last min. I think they would of been a lot of people hurt. Next time the police should let everyone know fast and let them go home.
