Imagine if we could all see who voted for who, I'd be willing to bet that 90% of white's would still vote for these same commissioners even after what they've done to roberts county. if these guys were anywhere else they'd be out on the butt's the first go around, if the people in roberts county really cared we wouldn't be having this problem right now, plain and simple, it's insane to think that the 50 and over group somehow blames these sheriff's and everyone but themselves for what is happening, they beleive these guys likke it's the word of god, go to a meeting before passing judgment on your law enforcment, watch these clowns in action, demand they keep evryting in the open and not behind closed doors, can't you see through what their doing? has this ever happened with a previous sheriff in roberts county? nope! now it's two in a row when it's a indian guys, I guess an education cost's money and I hope we have plenty of it when the dust's settles on this one. let's start over by getting these virus's out of office, get some good men and women who really care about the future of our county if not it's only gonna get a lot worse than it is right now, if thats possable.

Uma-Boston, I remember when it used to be that way! But when Natives started running for political office and winning in some cases, the "Old Guys" didn't like it and thus we have what we have going on today, maybe in the next 10 or so years when most of these guys die off it'll get back to being a good place to live....

There have been allegations of rape by Native women in prison in Sisseton by white police as well as several sherriffs. None of them were offered money to resign much less fired. I don't think that this justifies keeping the Native sherriff in office if the allegations can be proven. But this is the second of two Native sherriffs to be run out of office, and why doesn't the local news, and Kelo land have something to say? Isn't this news worthy material? There is no blind justice in a country that sold Native Americans and Native Africans into slavery, and removed their human rights. Two American holocausts. Still today in a land where Freedom is exalted, Native's have their religious rights in many cases still illegal by U.S. Law. As a matter of fact a native can't buy and sell land without say so by the BIA. How long would white America allow that to be their reality? As a matter of fact, regarding law and justice, there's still a law in Sisseton today that let's a white man kill a Native American if 3 or more cross onto his yard carrying anything that could be used as a weapon (like a digging fork used to plant Mrs. So and So's flowers.) This law has not been removed. It's time for western man to spiritually mature. He has no more excuses. "Oh! but we're different!" he might say. I'll reply that your own scientists state that all physical matter came from one grain of sand! We are all related. You might argue that the soul of white man is superior to the soul of a man of color. I'd say wasn't the high quality soul of the son of God in a man of color? If you answer no, then I suggest you go back and read the Bible. The Hindu's say (I think) that man was born with an axe in his mouth. And when ever he speaks negatively of another he cuts himself. You see, we all come from the same source. Whether its a grain of sand leading up to the big bang, or spirit (it's both, actually, because as Einstein said, E=mc2), even a little town like Sisseton (and others) in an unrecognized state like South Dakota can mature...it's all a matter of choice. And as the Bible and Jesus said, to be forgiven you must repent. That includes remorse, and a sincere desire to not repeat the behavior. I see a repeat of behavior if you ask me.

My solution to this problem...close the reservation. We cannot seem to integrate. Segregation is on the rise. The more educated the native american population gets and the more self serving they become...the more problems we seem to be creating trying to live together. Intoleance is on the rise. We are governed under seprate laws, seperate forms of government, different morals and values. So be it. Why fight it?? Simplify the problem and DON"T try to intertwine a sector of people who are most definatly NOT wanting to unite as one.We are not equals under the law. If indeed we were, we would have equal opportunities. Not so, when you can hire based on race or draw lines that can harbor criminals, based on race. When the white commissioners think it is ok to bribe the native american sheriff out of his position. I think the feds should buy us out and let the resevation obtain it's closed status. I believe they now own enough of the land in the county, and they will probably have their quota of families in dwellings with the new developements going in to apply for closed status.I have heard that was the master plan of the tribe, and if so, and my information is correct, they are well on their way. Look at all the government and legal issues we would be solving. This community is the most racist and predjudice place I know of. That goes both ways, and it's not going to get any better.

This is about more than just a person...this is about discrimination and racism. Equal opportinity employer. The natives can add "Native prefference" to that, which makes the whole EQUAL thing a big joke. The NON natives have to hire as "EQUALS"..but must hire a person of minority, be it race or gender, over someone else, if they are qualified. So by rights..there is nothing EQUAL about any of this.."Three Horns aren't suppose to play with Longnecks"....The Land Before Time (A great movie about discrimination and racism on a childs level)

This comment is to "Sickofit". Who quoted that Indians are the most racist. Let me remind you it was the Iroquois who saved Washington and his men at Valley Forge when they were starving. It was the "Indian" who saved the Pilgrim cause they didn't know how to farm, hunt, nor fish. It was the Indians who "rented" Manhatten to the Dutch for 65 Gilders and were laughed at later because they were told by the Dutch once they settled the Island that it now belonged to the Dutch. The Indians sold it. Well if those Dutch Owned the land, why didn't it go with them when they died? It's still there. What did Indians get? 13 burned at a time on stakes in honor of Christ and his 12 disciples. A celebration committed by Columbus' men. Not to mention 500 years of genocide and lies. I marvel at myself that being Native I don't hate you. But I can't stand your ignorance.

Okay, so you are trying to say that there were some great Native Americans in the past which is true, as well as being some great ones today, the simple fact is that racism is huge in Sisseton, and "Natives" play as much a role as "Whites" do, if you walk into Sisseton High School and ask any student, regardless of race, if they have been discriminated against because of their race by someone else during school hours, their answer will undoubtably be yes. You can ask any teacher you want to if they have heard multiple racist comments directed either from student to student, or student to teacher, and their answer will also be yes... In fact 50% of the Natives that attend Sisseton High School will tell you that it's messed up how Whites are called racist if they call a Native American an "Indian", but it's apparently not racist if a Native calls a White person a "White Boy", "White Trash", among other things, and the other 50% know that this is the truth, but are too ignorant to say it to anyone... In making the previous statement I would like to clarify that I am not being racist toward Native Americans, I am stating a simple fact... and I am sorry if you are offended by this comment in anyway, but it is the truth.

Bribery offered from government entity? That is a crime. Since when do they have the authority to use money for a bribe? Fight it Sheriff Owen! Neil Long for years had open illicit sexual affairs with female inmates for years. And how long was he sheriff? What about Mark Marty? He left Minnesota because it was alleged he embezzled money and had sex with minor????? And how long has he been an officer???? The days of natives being uneducated are over and many are holding positions of importance. Don't let them run you out???? Who is the accuser??? How much dirty laundry do the have in their closet?

I don't think this is a race issue. Sheriff Owen is a symbol of change for all people from the good ole boy club????? He refuses to violate the right's of a troubled people of all races in custody. And could it be he just told this person to do their job they were angered????? And made a flase claim???? If were not for the Native People Sisseton would be a dying community. Where is all the money coming from to keep the community alive??? The reserved is closed in the minds of simple closed minded uneducated people like you To All You Pretenders????? I'd like to know why the commissioners never pushed for prosecution when a caucasian state trooper inpregnated a teenager in the late 90's????? Wasn't that statutory rape??? Shouldn't he be a sex offender?
There was no outcry when he did that?????

My goodness I've been gone from Sisseton for 10 years & I see you people are still whining about "rasism" all of you, Indians & Whites alike. You would rather pass the buck to someone else instead of standing up to whatever the real problems are, instead of griping about it get your own ***es out there & run for some of these offices. People like you are what keep the hate alive in that town, disgusting, but alas, you will never change, none of you, you'll just pass your sicknes onto your kids, like you've done for years, so sad:(
