I could sit here and go on all night about all the pitfalls of that bill. The bottom line was it rewarded criminal behavior with goodies WE don't even get, like the widows and orphans clause of it. I'm all for people trying to get a better life, but let's go back to my bank robbery. Isn't that all I was trying to do, too? I need money to give my kids a better life. I can't be bothered to wait and earn it the legal way, so I go steal it. Now tell me, what's the difference again between that and what poor Liliana did?

God no I don't 600 pages to convince me of anything. Bank Robber vs. Illegal Immigrant two different crimes one absolutely vicious and unnecessary the other a necessity for some, if she had a way to citizenship she could earn it legally and I am sure more bills will introduced that appeal to both sides hopefully.

I never said I shot anyone in my "robbery". But let me assure you, I personally will not settle for anything less than deporting all illegals. There should be no path to anything except for their home country. The fact of the matter is Liliana will not be able to return to the states for another 10 years now that she has a deportment order against her. What do you supposed will happen if we offer 20 million illegals a path to citizenship? How many illegals do you suppose we'll be arguing about in another 15 years? 40 million? 50 million? It will be a tidal wave of illegals coming in, the likes never seen before.

I never said let people enter this country whenever they want I am just saying I am for nothing less than letting the ones in the country already gain residency and eventually citizenship.

I understand that. But you have to understand, if only in your head rather than your heart, that we can't do that. We offered an amnesty in 1986 and ended up having twice as many people take it as they expected. How many times have you heard an illegal say in an interview that they are hoping/waiting for another one? We can't take this many people on at one time, not only for financial reasons but also for the more obvious ones of people not assimilating. And I don't just mean Hispanics. One of the major problems is a lot of illegals were denied visas to enter the country. Don't you want to know why they weren't allowed in in the first place? There had to be a reason, and for that person to then sneak in...we can't allow that.
I am not a cruel person. I do feel sorry for some of these people, but I have children that I need to worry about. I didn't plan to have my kids grow up in a Third World lifestyle. I can't afford to feed and medicate other people's children, especially when I had no say in the matter. I'm guessing you're alot younger than I am, and I admire the fact that you're taking a stand. I'm also going to take a wild guess that you have no children. As cliche as it may sound, it does change how you view the world. We all want to save the world when we're younger. Then we realize we just can't.

Wow... been reading this debate. I have to say I lean more towards what Another White Guy wrote. I think a big part of the problem is people wouldn't come here if there were no jobs, and we as a country aren't doing enough to stop that. People don't get work in Europe, for example, without proper ID/work permits. How come we can't enforce that here?(I think that's the real issue)

Congress has passed 7 amnesties for illegal aliens, starting in 1986.

1) Immigration and Reform Control Act (IRCA), 1986: A blanket amnesty for some 2.7 million illegal aliens
2) Section 245(i) Amnesty, 1994: A temporary rolling amnesty for 578,000 illegal aliens
3) Section 245(i) Extension Amnesty, 1997: An extension of the rolling amnesty created in 1994
4) Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act (NACARA) Amnesty, 1997: An amnesty for close to one million illegal aliens from Central America
5) Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act Amnesty (HRIFA), 1998: An amnesty for 125,000 illegal aliens from Haiti
6) Late Amnesty, 2000: An amnesty for some illegal aliens who claim they should have been amnestied under the 1986 IRCA amnesty, an estimated 400,000 illegal aliens
7) LIFE Act Amnesty, 2000: A reinstatement of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty, an estimated 900,000 illegal aliens

Nine current bills are vying to be Amnesty No. 8

The total number of people amnestied under this additional legislation was well over 3 million. That doesn't take into consideration the extended family members that those granted amnesty can apply for entry.

The grand total was more than 10 million people nearly 4 times the number we were promised.
