This is one of the best, most cogent articles about this complex, confusing issue I have seen in any newspaper in the state. I wish that presentation was available on the web. What a legal mess this has created for everyone, big towns and small.

I'm trying to figure out whether to laugh or cry, though, after reading some of the council's comments. Comparing this to alcohol in the park is a profoundly ignorant mistake. Sick people are not asking to drink beer in Riverside Park for pain relief. Some of the council members have already made up their minds about this issue, and they have obviously decided the medical component of the issue is bogus. I'm sure there are many people asking for permits who aren't sick at all, and just like to smoke pot. But I've also had enough contact with MS and cancer support groups to know there really are some sick people out there who think they will derive a benefit from pot. As an elected official, the least you owe them is to keep an open mind and do your due diligence.

I wish I could have seen the police chief's face when she said anyone could just go out on the street and buy it if they want to, and not bother the council with this. Of course they could, councilwoman - but that would be illegal. Jeez. And I presume you actually RAN for this office, correct? You weren't forced to take it? Well then you might have to be "bothered" with pesky issues like this. If it's too much for you, let someone else take over.

"Deal said.“We don’t need this in our little town. Anyone who wants marijuana can go out on the street and get it anywhere in town and not bother us with it.”"

lets all stick our heads in the ground and ignore taxable sales that happen regardlessly. maybe the town should look the other way from collecting tax at all the other city businesses. outstanding leadership Ms. Deal!

You stupid Nanny State fascists will NEVER stop the weed.

There's a dispensary in Northeastern Colorado that can DELIVER to Fort Morgan. Or just drive to Denver.

All you are doing is sending business money and tax revenues OUT of Morgan County and down to Denver.

And if you make it illegal again, you still won't stop it.

Marijuana is safer than alcohol or tobacco, is not physically addictive like hard drugs, and has no known overdose. It does have several known medical properties.

Maybe you should rename your city to Fort MORON.

Stupid Nanny Staters. Move to Iran.

Get a haircut hippies. Most of this carsinogenic weed gets sold to addicts, not the sick! Get high on life not immature vices. The potheads are ruining it for the sick who really need it.
