part 2

That is, until they get to "The Room".Every one of them freaks out and puts on the breaks when we get to the door. It must smell like death, or they can feel the sad souls that are left in there. It's strange, but it happens with every one of them. Your dog or cat will be restrained, held down by 1 or 2 vet techs (depending on their size and how freaked out they are). A euthanasia tech or a vet will start the process. They find a vein in the front leg and inject a lethal dose of the "pink stuff". Hopefully your pet doesn't panic from being restrained and jerk it's leg. I've seen the needles tear out of a leg and been covered with the resulting blood, and been deafened by the yelps and screams. They all don't just "go to sleep"-sometimes they spasm for a while, gasp for air and defecate on themselves. When it all ends, your pet's corpse will be stacked like firewood in a large freezer in the back, with all of the other animals that were killed, waiting to be picked up like garbage. What happens next? Cremated? Taken to the dump? Rendered into pet food? You'll never know, and it probably won't even cross your mind. It was just an animal, and you can always buy another one, right?Liberty, freedom and justice for all I hope that those of you that have read this are bawling your eyes out and can't get the pictures out of your head. I do everyday on the way home from work. I hate my job, I hate that it exists and I hate that it will always be there unless people make some changes and realize that the lives you are affecting go much farther than the pets you dump at a shelter.Between 9 and 11 MILLION animals die every year in shelters and only you can stop it. I do my best to save every life I can but rescues are always full, and there are more animals coming in everyday than there are homes. My point to all of this is DON'T BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER PETS DIE!Hate me if you want to - the truth hurts and reality is what it is.I just hope I maybe changed one person's mind about breeding their dog, taking their loving pet to a shelter, or buying a dog. I hope that someone will walk into my shelter and say "I saw this thing on craigslist and it made me want to adopt".That would make it all worth it."

I agree with my whole heart and soul with "plz save aa life". About 10 years ago we purchased 3 pure breed puppies at The Zoo pet store in Mission Viejo. These dogs have been wonderful additions to our family and given us so much more than they take!! We lost one of our Aussies to complications of diabetes a few months ago and did not intend to get another dog for quite a while. My daughter came home from college at Christmas and saw a pet at the shelter in Moreno Valley that she adored and which was in urgent need for adoption or she would be put down. We couldn't let that happen so we adopted the most adorable loving Chiweenie!! After visiting the shelter in Moreno Valley twice I will definitely NEVER purchase another dog again. I will only ADOPT!!!! There were literally hundreds of dogs in urgent need of adoption and many were pure breeds. Many of course were Pit Bulls and honestly no one was taking any interest in adopting them. Please do not buy pets from pet stores. There are too many wonderful pets to adopt!!!

I just read the reviews on this site from pure curiousity because my friend told me to. I am just a regular guy who lives in Riverside and I bought an adorable puppy from Bark Works at the mall. The sales associates knew all about each of the puppies I asked about just by looking at them. I was lucky because the owner was even there and I got to ask her directly where the puppy came from and about the breeder. The puppy came from a breeder in MO and she got me the breeder's registration numbers and info. I got documentation showing her vet visits and all of her shots. They were very up front with me about everything even the negative fact that she wouldn't eat when she first arrived at their store so she went right to the vet and they nursed her til she was fit for sale.
The only thing I didn't like was their FREE vet is located about an hour away. But who cares? No one says I must take my pup there, it's just an offer. I took her to my own vet and paid the 35 bucks. Get over it!
I was not required to buy anything extra but they did offer me a crate and things I would have HAD to buy for the breed so I willingly bought them. They are sales associates after all, they are there to SELL. Those were told they were required to buy stuff were mislead and a poor sales tactic but honestly is that a bad enough reason to slander the whole operation? Maybe you should have informed their boss of their selling technique like a normal adult would.
The people who say they get their puppies from puppy mills, what proof do you have? There are hundrends, if not thousands of legitimate breeders nationwide in every city. What makes you believe they are coming from a puppy mill? Further more, even if they were from a puppy mill, does this mean those little dogs should not ever go to a home? Two wrongs don't make a right!
To those who say they are in horrible conditions, can you tell me of any pet store that sells puppies that are freely running around on a farm? LOL You sort of have to put the animal in an enclosure so their potential parents can see them and inspect them. Puppies sleep all the time, they are sometimes lethargic. Come on, use common sense! Do human babies get up and start playing with blocks 2 weeks after birth or do they sleep most of the time?
Finally, to those who mentioned that their puppies are not AKC recognized: they are called pedigree. The definition of pedigree is ped·i·gree
/ˈpedə&# 716;grē/Noun
1.The record of descent of an animal, showing it to be purebred.
2.A purebred animal.
You get what you pay for! Purebred dogs are expensive. The ones that are mixed are mixed for a reason. They take the best attributes from the two breeds and get you the adorable tiny or beautiful dog you have been looking for. If you want a dog just because it is recognized by what a club says be preapred to pay WAY more than what bark works charges and set aside plenty of time to locate a breeder that is probably from another state.

My wife bought me a BEAUTIFUL Siberian Husky a couple of months back from Barkworks, Riverside. Wonderful service, friendly staff and the pups move in/out quickly, which means they don't stay there for very long. That's a good thing.

Recently found a comparable puppy store at another mall in San Diego, charging $1000 more for a Siberian Husky than we paid, whose markings were nowhere as good as my Willow.

Nobody has the right to complain about dogs costing so much anymore than Disneyland or Nordstroms or Guess costing so much. If you want a cheap dog, jeans, dress or cheap amusement park, go with what you can afford.

Kudos to the free market!

InHumane irony - animals are not human, so why do people argue they should be treated equally?

I have several animals, all treated kindly and with love. Not because its the "humane" thing to do, but because my religious convictions reflect a God who exhorts his creation to treat animals, who are subject to the rule and dominion of humans, with kindness and respect and to enjoy them as working animals, pets and even food.
