I'm in the process of buying vinyl windows for the addition I'm adding to my house. I'm thinking Silverline because it seems like a lot of window for the price and I need 7. Andersen makes them, but I've read some not-so-good reports. Can you offer me any advice?

Amerimax vinyl windows are pretty good vinyl windows. I know they are available in Los Angeles area. I think the prices above are for the window only. Most vinyl windows run $350 to $600 retrofit installed. Alumium windows would have to be new construction installation. Stucco repair would be need and cost around $800 to $1200 for it and the aluminum clad window. Amerimax would be my choice if you go with vinyl and live in the Los Angeles area. Amerimax has alot of nice features.

I have Amerimax Vinyl Windows in my house and they are great. Very energy efficient and make the house much quieter. I looked at other brands but wanted a premium brand. I don't know anything about Silverline windows.

You probably got your windows by now, but I've always had good luck with Andies.

Amerimax windows are pretty good. Bought mine 6 years ago and not one problem. Amerimax windows are really contructed well. Amerimax really keep the heat out in the summer and cold out in the winter. Don't hear my neighbors fighting either.

Years from now you'll be glad that you had upgraded to an energy efficient window. I'm not here to tell you whats the best, but the idea is get some good energy efficient window that looks and fit well with the house that you're in.

April 22, 2010 is when the new lead law goes into effect. Renovatiing, Repair, or painting are all affected. Replacement windows and doors are effected too. Any pre-1987 home must have a Certified Firm do renovating, repair, or painting or face a $37,500 fine, per day, per occurance. To get more information go to:

Here is the pamplet homeowners should be receiving if they plan to do something to their pre-1978 home.

Make sure you pick a certified firm. They are listed at this website. A certified firm can also show you their certified card with their picture on it. The EPA is backed up posting certified firms information.
