I am very proud of the two young adults that approached the City Council last night at the monthly meeting. I agree, we need more in our town for children to be able to be active in. Yes, we have a new County Complex which is wonderful, but it only has a game room and a basketball court. Our children need more outlets. The Green Brooke Park would be the perfect location. There is plenty of land in the back that could be put to use. Lets put this extra revenue that our city is taking in and put it to good use.

How is skateboarding gonna keep kids out of trouble? Don't all skateboarders use drugs? Besides, we can't risk a lawsuit after some yuppie kid falls and breaks an arm!

I think the community needs something a little more family oriented than a skate park due to not everyone skates or rides bikes. I've seen the young gentlemen who brought the petition forward numerous times around town and all I've got to say is he needs to pay more attention to his surroundings because at the moment he doesn't and I can see why he almost got hit. I mean I give the young man props for coming forward with his motion but I do not believe a skate park is really needed.

We need a skatepark. its a great way for the youth of smithville to learn to be active. I am one of the boys who always skate around town and it is hard trying to find places to skate where people don't care and there isn't much traffic. To the person who says that all skaters use drugs. are you serious? You must be out of your mind. That is very stereotypical. you need to think about what you said

To expensive and not only that something more family oriented we have in town several places. New complex for movies, private parties, green brook park, lake, beach, churches, how can you ask for more, when we have all this go fishing, hunting, ride the strip, visit friends ,family,go to the nursing home and volunteer to help with the elderly, clean your room .just saying

Better places for county money to go than a skatepark. Be nothing more than a place for kids to fight n do drugs. Skating is illegal n the city limits anyways so keep it up if you want to be arrested for trespacing and distruction of property. As for parents that support there's not just a game room and a basketball court there's a gym as well is called eorking out you should try it . If tgey are that bored grab a trssh bag n pick up garbage in your neighbothood

There should be a variety of things for people to do in the community. Everyone doesn't like to play basketball. I'm for anything that will get the kids off a computer, video game or cell phone to get some exercise and interact with others IN PERSON! Studies are showing that kids as young as 7 are having difficulty carrying on face to face conversations because they text so much. This shouldn't be!

Problems are solved at home. Not at a public funded facility.

Okay first of all M Foster not all skateboarders do drugs, where did you get that information? I think you need to re-evaluate your facts. Double Agreed, we didnt ask for JUST a skatepark! We asked for alot of other things for other people to do. If you dont want to go to the skate park then don't! Go to the community center, maybe that will suit you better. The young man is my brother and he wouldn't have to be in the way if there was a place for him and the other TWO HUNDRED kids that signed our petition to go! Time Machine, its going to cost alot less than putting new things into our community center! Kids can fight ANYWHERE! DRUGS CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE! Not all kids want to go to church, I agree we need a place for movies! Ride the strip? Seriously? You can do drugs in your car while you ride the strip, COME ON! I'm sure all those people who ride the strip and hang at Hardees are all innocent! Ha! Dang straight, obviously the police don't have a problem with them skating so far. I have friends that are cops and that work for the county legal system and NONE of them have said anything to me about it being a problem, and if it was they know they can tell me. Just saying, thank you for the support!

The ignorance of this town never ceases to amaze me! We have folks making negative comments about skate boarders...really ? Do YOU know any of these kids who skate? Well I do! And one of them happens to be MY son! He doesn't use drugs ,and both my children, Martha and Will Puckett happen to be ACTIVE members of our church and of this community! My daughter has shaved her head the past two years for childhood cancer research and has raised thousands of dollars for that cause. And yes, mine arethe two kids that brought this to the council. I will also add we aren't trying to "fix" our kids in a publicly funded venue.. we " fix"our kids at home and church, not at a skate park. Are you folks really that narrow minded? These are the reasons our locals are addicted to drugs and have no clue as to what the world has to offer, they've never been exposed! It's not all basketball and exercise equipment! By the way, these kids are working on grants and other means to fund this venture. I will say I'm VERY proud of both my children for being brave enough to make and stand and trying to make a difference in our community!.
Seriously fed up

Wow! All skateboarders are drug addicts?? That is one of the funiest comments I've read. That's like saying all Christians are snake handlers. The ignorance of these comments and the narrow mind of some in this town never ceases to amaze me. I personally know the young men that drew up and passed around the petition. They then waited patiently to bring this petition to the counsil. Does this even seem like the type of thing a drug user would do? These kids are active in church, active in school and now are trying to be active in their community. Thanks for giving these kids a taste of what Smithville really has to offer ... prejudgement, prejudice, and no hope for the future. Unfortunately, there is no room for progression according to those w/ the infinite wisdom that categorizes all skateboarders as drug users. People like yourselves are what makes the younger generation move away and never look back. Thank you, Will Puckett, you stay strong. You are a great kid. You have outstanding character. And you are doing the right thing. You are doing exactly what you need to do. Do NOT stoop to the level of the people who are stuck in a prolific time warp and have no idea what they are talking about. Your heart is in the right place and, at your age, I'd have been terrified to go in front of a meeting and present an idea. My child is just 10, but I pray she turns out as responsible and kindhearted as you have. Keep going with this! I'll be behind you. You kids need a safe area. I'm almost 40, but LOVE to rollerblade. I'll suit up in my knee and elbow pads and come out with you guys, and I know you'd welcome me with open arms! Can everyone just remember to things? Mark 12:31 "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." And Mark 7:1 "Judge not, lest ye be judged." Helping these kids may just fill your heart w/ some joy in a time when bitterness and self-centeredness is an epidemic.
