I have been to City fish. I have to agree it is very good. I forgot I have also tried Wheatfields. I didn't care for my sandwich but the bread was fantastic.
One of my favorite things to do when we travel is try the food.

Whoever,
I would have included City Fish on State Ave.
Well, maybe not, but my wife and I sure love it.
Wheatfields in Lawrence is very good, but the others I have never been to as well.

Have you tried the cinnamon rolls? They are really good too. All this food talk is making me hungry.

You go to the Corner Cafe in Riverside, Mo.
From KCK, it's not far at all. Just go up 635.
If you like comfort food like Tenderlions, fried chicken, ham, pork chops, etc. you will love this place. They also have great chicken and noodles.
Their pies are incredible, and every bit as good -if not better, then Tippin's pies.
Tippin's used to cut their pies into eight slices, while the Corner Cafe sut them into six.
It's without a doubt the best unknown place in town.
When Bush was in office and came to KC, he ate their once, and it's just a normal cafe.

Whoever,

When I read your response I just lit up thinking, ALRIGHT, you've been there.

Yes, I've had their cinnamon rolls. My whole family says, "They're to die for." lol.

Last time we were there I got a slice of banana split pie - Holy crap, was that good!!!

And my wife and one of my daughter's would eat Mexican everyday. I've been to Manny's, but none of the family has.

They like Jose Peppers, and Mi Ranchitos.

I'll take your word for the margaritas being the best in town. I can't get one of them past my lips. YIKES!!!

it's ME,
They are to die for. Banana split pie. Haven't tried that. You don't like margaritas? OMG! I don't drink often but Manny's without one just wouldn't be the same. And my husband always goes for the cold beer.

Whoever,

What's weird my wife bought a Tippin's banana split pie at the Hen House in Lenexa about 3 weeks ago.
And I wondered if the Corner Cafe actually buys there pies from Tippin's.

I took my wife to Corner Cafe about 12 years ago for the first time.
She wanted to know there I was taking her. I told her it was a surprise, but I didn't want to eat anywhere in JoCo.

When she saw the sign that said "Riverside," and the Big Red X, she said "OH no you don't."

I told her to be quiet and wait, because I thought she would really like this place.

And before we got there, I put on my left hand turn signal and started to pull into a place called the, Jockey Club.

I swear there were at least 20 hogs (Harley's)parked out front.

She lost it. "If you think I'm going in there.........."
"You can go in there if you want, but you can forget me.........."
"Blah blah blah blah blah"

Then I took her to the the cafe and she fell in love with it.

Everyone we take there falls in love with it.

Time for bed.

This is 8 Wonders of Kansas not Missouri, but I have been to Corner Cafe my brother goes all the time. Do you Remember the flood at Riverside? This was why they have a newer/better Corner Cafe and Red X.

It's Kansas Cuisine. When you get to talking about good food there are no boundries.
I remember the flood. Seen it on the news. Looked really bad over there.

My vote was and is for Hibachi Hut in Manhattan. Best Gumbo I've ever had, it even wins awards in Norleans. The cornbread is great, a little sweet, you really cant go wrong. try the grilled, bacon wrapped shrimp! Yummy!

I've eaten at Bobo's, Guy and Mae's, most of the Crawford County chicken places, and the Hays House. They're all great. I haven't eaten at the Hibachi Hut since the early 70's when I was in college, but if it's as good as it was then, it did deserve to be on it. One of the finalists that didn't make it on THE list was the Prairie Nut Hut in Altoona. You have to be able to eat and enjoy mountain oysters to like it, but it was also seriously good. Somebody mentioned Mexican. Down here in SE Kansas, you'll find some really good Mexican food. El Charro in Iola, the El Pueblitos in Chanute, Coffeyville, and Independence, South of the Border in Burlington, and Estellita in Humboldt will all give you a great Mexican food experience.

If you want really good food, go to the little hole-in-the-wall cafe's in the small Kansas towns. You'll find those old-fashioned juicy hamburgers, meatloaf or chicken and noodles like Grandma made, and the best pie anywhere. Those $50 a plate snooty-nosed places in KC don't hold a candle to them.

If you like Mexican -

Mi Ranchito in the KC Metro is great. I haven't been to the shiny new ones, but the ones @ 95th & I-35 and 75th & Nieman have always provided wonderful, plentiful food & service.

In Lawrence - Free State Brewery has consistently great Black Bean Burritos, and their Chicken Flautas and Mexican Torte were heavenly. Top it off with a tall glass of Black Velvet (dark ale & champagne)- but be prepared to want to get up and boogie!

If you want something with magnificent mole - try the Chicken Mole at La Tropicana in North Lawrence.

Earl - I saw a place featured on the Food Network that was down in Baxter Springs. Haven't looked at a map, but is that near you?

Very far SE corner of the state. Just spittin' distance from Joplin. About 65 or 70 miles from me. I saw it too. Haven't tried it. Another one that was on D,D, and D was the Rib Shack, I think, in Paola. I've been there. His smoked jalapenos are wonderful.

Marie, if you like good Mexican, try a little place on the south side of Olathe. It used to be a Pizza Hut. Can't think of the name of it right now. It's north of the Great Plains Mall and across the tracks on the east side of the street. They have an espinaca dip that will knock your socks off.
