Concerts on the pier are great family entertainment, but disgusting when non-smokers, children, etc. have to put up with disgusting cigarette smoke. I think public concerts should be a "smoke free zone". What do you think?

Good luck with that one. Who is going to enforce it?

I don't smoke and I say no too. Concerts on the pier are for everyone, and everyone's family does not include children. There is plenty of open space for you to move your family if you don't like the smoke. That's what we do...we move if it bothers us that much in the open air, which is rare.

I disagree. imho people are losing their common sense. If you don't like something then move to another place. So many that scream about every place being smoke free drive clunker cars that stink or burn leaves in their yards, use smelly wood burning stoves, eat too many beans etc. Get my drift?

I'm not a smoker and never have been. I feel smokers have their rights too. Use your head and sit/stand someplace else if you don't like it.

I feel the whole antismoking agenda has gotten way out of control. A person can't smoke at a school sporting event outdoors even if they are miles away from any other person, but on school property. Soon a person won't be allowed to smoke in their own car with a kid in the back seat, even with the window down and a/c blowing.

I smoke (and am respectful to nonsmokers), and I say no to this proposal, yet another infringement on our freedom.

Most that complain are former smokers. They should be the ones that understand. I say if one cannot smoke outdoors then others shouldn't be allowed to drink their beer outdoors. I find drunks to be more offensive than the smell of cigarettes.

Guess you didn't read where I CLEARLY stated that I do NOT smoke and never have.

Everyone has rights. You are a mom of 4. Do you take all your kids to the store or restaurant and they scream? Of course they do. That can offend some who don't like loud noises. Should you not be allowed to take your screaming kids to a concert? You are annoying others. Hmmm what should the choices be? No kids allowed? Or how about if people don't like YOUR noisy kids they can move to another spot.

Get what I mean?

Bad example, it’s called discipline. Noisy kids do not belong in a store, restaurant or a concert. However if they do become noisy you left out a third choice, discipline your kids so as not to disturb others while they shop, eat or listen to the concert. Why is it I had to move three times because someone was smoking next to me? The problem I have is I was there first then this lady plopped her ass right in front of me and smoked one right after another. The only correct way to handle this is to make one side of the pier smoke free and the other side for smokers. That gives everyone a choice. As far as who will enforce it, just wait till a smoker lights us on the non smokers side and see what happens!!

Excellent point on the discipline. I didn't think it through enough.

If you were in that seat first and then comes the smoker, the smoker is supposed to move. That is just simple courtesy. I do like your idea of separate sections for smokers and for non. Seems like the most reasonable solution.

Amen! I sat with my children eating ice cream on the boardwalk while listening to filthy "f" this talk in front of the ice cream shop. All of them drinking and smoking like crazy. The language and the obvious public intoxication bothered me the most. Took my kids and went to Big Dipper!

I'm a loser because I don't like the smell of cigarette smoke? If that lady in front of me wants to smoke she has that right as long as it doesn’t affect my family. We don’t smoke and never have; it bothers us to smell it. If you want to have a cigarette and there are hundreds of people around that’s fine, just get up go have your cigarette in an area that doesn’t bother people then come back. I have not had to sit next to a drunk with a foul mouth but if I ever do that person will be told once to control the mouth around my family. The second time it happens I will get that person removed from the pier. I will not suck it up so people like you can ruin the evening. Non smokers have rights too.

Actually, your point was a GOOD example. Discipline? What discipline! Trying to enjoy a peaceful dinner with your loved ones, and have to listen to screaming babies and tots slamming their silver all over the table, and the parents just sit there and do nothing. That's more annoying to me than any cig smoke! People without kids have just as much right to enjoy a PEACEFUL dinner without having to listen to someone else's brats behaving badly. All restaurants should have a "no kids" section for those that do not want to be bothered. Anyway, I was just making reference to your point which I thought was a good one.
