There at the corner of Second and Pearl at Chez Lodge I saw him looking out the door, his kind, gentle smile and confident eyes looking so real I almost walked over and asked him to let me see his birth certificate. Barky be in da houz, baybay.

If Ole Mess had a pair that size in Oxford, they might have a decent football program again for the first time in about half a century.

I meant to comment some months back and kept forgetting about what I seen about town: those nice, handsome green street signs along Columbia Avenue. They do dress up our main thoroughfare a tad, don't they, now?

Any plans to use some stimuli money to put them up over the rest of town?

wouldn't want your god to put any ideas in their heads.when all you do is speak negative, see negative, and hear negative means your serving a very small god.OBAMA is looking good at the lodge, and by the way the stimuli money is going to be use to replace the money that was taking from regions bank.

All I did was give a little free publicity to the thing. Is that negative?

All I said was he looked real standing behind the door. Is that negative?

I said the signs on Columbia Avenue made the town look a tad nicer. Is that negative?

The only thing negative here was *your* post critiquing someone's god,*your* post charging others with negativity.

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam the is in thine own eye?

My money, though, says we'll never see that birth certificate.

Oh, surely Marty knows the good King James. It's "chez" what's giving him the problem, I think. I'd translate it, but I'd likely just get whapped for being negative all over again.

Well, the Headlight was not alone in not providing its "readership" -- evidently read as "backcountry yokels woefully uninformed about US national affairs" -- the news that a new chief executive was elected.

Take a look for yourself.

Perhaps after reading the story, aggrieved readers will form up a protesting picket on Third Street.

My God! Now who's putting ideas in those same heads?

Seriously though, does the Headlight usually report on national news? I don't get the paper every week, but really don't recall ever seeing much on the national front in the papers I do get.

Really don't get all the hooplah about the new president and how it relates to his race where the black community stakes all claims to him as a "brother."

He is bi-racial; white moma + black daddy = bi-racial obaby.

There are plenty of bi-racial children in this very county who are rejected by the whites AND the blacks. Look at the Watts kid who was recently convicted of killing the school teacher. I don't think any one race accepted the kid.

Why is Barack any different in the eyes of the black people?

Then I am Indian. Aren't there special goodies the government has set aside for the Indian race?

Hell, anybody can do eight years in the White House now. Even Dubya did that, and he's dumber than a sackful of hammers.

Back when Mrs. F.A. Parker ran the Headlight, Mencken seems to recall that she had her own, uhm, col-yum, that ran alongside the left edge of the front page.

Mencken also vaguely recollects that Mrs. Parker from time to time in said column railed against LBJ and his Great Society.

But that's about all the national affairs that I can recollect off the top of my head.
