<quoted text>Public school teachers are unionized employees, their salary is divided into the amount of months in a school year rather than the calendar year. Many teachers supplement their pay by teaching in summer school and/or tutoring.
Unless a teacher is a total imbecile it is very difficult to remove them from the classroom let alone terminating them.
Student teachers may not get paid but they do earn credits toward their degrees or certificates.
Because the Unions protect ALL the teachers, they discourage complaints against someone that also pays union dues.

The salaries you see on opengov are the total amounts paid to that individual for the calendar year. That includes any extra activities for which they are paid but not cash earned tutoring on school grounds apparently - not sure that's legal but seems to be happening. Anyone not on a 12-month calendar has the option of being paid throughout 12 months or just during the school year. Every professional I know takes work home with them but doesn't get the leave packages that school employees do. I'm sure they need it but most people only get holidays and 1-3 weeks! Teachers get the advanced degrees to get raises - I rarely see them do for their classrooms the quality of work they put into projects for continuing education!

I see friends excited about getting involved at school but by mid-year they are not! If teachers are so overworked why don't they need help copying, cutting, etc.? Or do they just like to complain?

Since nothing has not been publicized recently, here's another question that might need to be answered: do you think that the Polk board and/or DeAnna Williams will "sweep this under the rug" if it hasn't been done already (just in case that Johnson is guilty of the assault)?

Nothing to publish. He is out on bond. He will not be allowed to return to work as long as the charges are pending. If convicted of felony charges he will be terminated.

Would a student be allowed to attend school had they been the accused? It's about time we held the adults to higher standards!

Knowing Johnson he kept it in his car at all times. He was a great man in our faces but you never know what really happens behind close doors. I went to RHS and we had 1 encounter but he didn't do anything because my uncle was the sheriff and everything that was said was all a lie. Till today that man hates me and always will.

I have had more people than I care to count tell me that their children are accused of lying involving PSD teachers, staff, etc. when there are incidents. Whatever happened to morals? If you can't trust an adult to tell the truth these kids will never respect them. I would say there needs to be some county-wide meetings. Polk has a horrible reputation.

And children always tell the truth...I'm not saying they always lie either, but you can't believe kids all the time. Mine lie to me. I know they do...it's lie or face the consequences. I don't think it's right to judge this man without all the facts, and I think it shows your true color and maturity when you degrade all the teachers of the system over a few bad apples. JMO

That is typical when it comes to teachers while on administrative leave. In some states they can be there for 5 or 6 years just coming in and sitting around all day. Most of them take advanced college courses during that time and while getting paid so they can start a brand new career once the matter is resolved.

In this case a child has nothing to do with it. LE arrested him on aggravated assault charges.

I can understand that. I have not heard anything else about the "chop-shop" teacher in the county, except that he is still on the payroll. I'm wondering if Polk School District will have Johnson do anything else that doesn't involve actually interacting with kids.
I gotta ask
