What type of businesses would you like to see in downtown Cedartown and Rockmart?
---More retail shops (clothing, jewelry, specialty items?)
---More dining options?
---Social gathering sites (coffee shops, bookstores?)

Unless there is a concerted effort by local governments to market, attract, incent and retain new industry(jobs)to the area whereby citizens are gainfully employed it doesn't matter what you put downtown....if citizens don't have money to spend, then NO business will survive.

Put another way, would YOU invest money in Cedartown and Rockmart with the unemployment rate as high as it is and folks have no disposaable income to spend?

Nothing more than putting the horse before the cart.

You're right. Actually, any poll is meaningless if its not done scientifically. Internet "click as you feel" polls shouldn't even be called polls.

I saw the article about the snake oil salesmen who gave their report o the state of the county. They said a company worth 52 million dollars was thinking about locating in Polk. Does that mean this un-named company is going to put that 52 million in Polk County banks and spend it in the community? Or, did they mean that this company may form a branch in the county and take advantage of a special County Council or state tax deal that will let them put more money in the Chase Manhattan bank? Several years ago they swore, "bring the 'Silver Comet Trail' to Polk County and rich people from Atlanta will ride into town on their bicycles with saddlebags full of cash." Next thing they professed was, "if we beautify Cedartown, Hollywood will surely begin filming movies in the streets." Now everybody is holding their breath waiting on the 52 million dollar messiah to sweep and make everything great. Meanwhile, KIA, BMW, Hyundai, and a host of other major companies are moving their productions to the south. Just hold on a little longer because the little place with nothing to do is about to attract millions of tourists who don't want any thing to do. Jobs = money = prosperity. They just don't get it. What's even worse is if they do!

All Fish and RNT polls are pretty much meaningless. The answer choices are limited by what they want to hear. Their forums are also lopsided. If you say what they don't want to hear then they just ban you.
It's very limited freedom of speech which means their own is acceptable, not yours.
It's a self-destruct company whose existence has so far survived by being the only game in the area. Their customer base is shrinking and they don't have the "know how" to make it on the diverse web.

You're welcome. Actually, I was just testing my old brain to see if I read it correctly.

But in answer to the post. I actually see no harm in city trying to get some ideas on what people might like. There's no harm done.

If every idea was knocked down without even trying, then we'd probably never have had electricity.

Which means, heaven forbid, we wouldn't have the internet.
