What a wonderful thing Facebook has been for this Forum. The brains were really working overtime, when they thought up this idea.I knew it was coming and predicted it in my New Mexico Forum post on collusion of the press.I know it is all for the best,The Los Angeles Times did it about a month ago,it was just a matter of time.It eliminates the opinions of those less educated and less fortunate to be blessed with the monetary means to keep up with the enlightened ones, who set the pace for modern day American life.Anything California or Colorado does has to be the next best thing for New Mexico to emulate,so the press in New Mexico would lead us to believe.Next thing you know they will be taking their marching orders from Texas, maybe then the citizens of New Mexico will wake up to the blatant insult to their collective intelligence the press has perpetrated against them for far too long.

Yeah, so much for freedom of speech, eh? So much for social discourse. Even physical social discourse and real life socializing seems to be on the wane. In my opinion, our society is heading in a very sick direction. I read comments on some of these news sites and it's like, what ARE these people like in person? Just as hateful, ignorant and awful? Now, as to Silver City Daily Presses FB spot, what a joke. If that's the local idea of opinion time, barf. I thought for sure there'd be an article about the WNMU bus accident up north, especially right after the news on TV. I thought there'd be some comments. But NOOOOO. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Come to think of it, a whole lot of what is going on in society today doesn't make a whole lot of positive, life supportive sense to me.

I don't follow your reasoning on this. It costs no more to post on Facebook than it does to post it here, so your comment about 'the monetary means' is inaccurate... and I have no idea why you brought up California and Colorado, let alone Texas.

The reason the Sun-News moved the commenting system off of Topix is simple: any system that a) allows anonymous posts and b) allows people to masquerade as other posters inevitably results in posts that are rude, defamatory, and often untrue-- not to mention libelous.

As Lorina complaining about freedom of speech: the First Amendment of the US Constitution guarantees us that "Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press"-- which has nothing to do with a private entity (the Sun-News) imposing restrictions in how their service is to be used.

In short: all the trolls spoiled things for the few of us willing to use our real names and behave like responsible adults; now they get to play all by themselves.

Now the fools at the Silver City Sun News think people are going to pay them to read their biased news stories online, they have truly lost their minds. It was not so much them going to Facebook that ticked me off, it was more the direction they were headed in and now with this new twist in the plot it is blatantly obvious how desperate and out of touch with the general public they are. What has happened to journalism in America, why has it turned into a high-tech biased three ring circus, which favors those who are blessed with money? Now,Mitch Hellman,do you see what I was talking about or are you just a pawn, who lives in total denial in this sham that was once true journalism?

Admit it-- you want to run off at the mouth, do it anonymously, and really resent it that the Sun-News is asking you to put your money where your mouth is so that they can stay solvent. Talk about total denial-- look around and see how many newspapers are in financial trouble or folding entirely... and you're too cheap to kick in a couple of bucks so you can continue to bloviate to your heart's content. Good luck with that; I'm out of here, so you can talk to yourself (and I've got a hunch that you have plenty of experience at that).

Yeah he is just a pawn of the woman that owns the building where his icecream cones are located.

You are so out of touch that it is becoming pathetic. Have you seen the most recent headline out of Mexico? You know-the one about the woman beheaded for posting on the Internet criticizing the cartels? The "authorities" don't have a clue as to how the cartels found out who this woman was because she used an anonymous name. So you see Mitch- folks are scared and they should be. Do you honestly think that any rational person would post an honest opinion about Grant County using their real name? I agree there was a lot of BS on the old forum but more good came out of it than not. The money people in Grant ounty leaned on the Sun News because the TRUTH was getting out about your little effed up town.
You don't live in freedom there and you are too blinded to even see it.

Technology in general is wreaking havoc on several industries, particularly the news industry. When cell phones have the ability to record, take pics and send files instantly, newspapers are technically a misnomer. If it's old news should it really still be called news? I'll stick to google for the major news stories and to the ol' rumor mill for the local stuff. Half the time the rumor mill tends to be more entertaining and best of all, it's free! LOL.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Scorpio

You're in a very romantic and sentimental state today. You're also feeling quite sensitive and vulnerable, so you won't want to be around anyone you find abrasive or aggressive. If you meet someone for the first time now you'll think they're wonderful and your relationship will always involve putting them on a pedestal. But don't be too idealistic. They are human, remember!
