I knew Rachel from her job at Sonic in Silver City. Every time I went into Sonic for my regular breakfast burrito, she'd make a special point to wait on me or run over to my car to say hi. It's very difficult to go into Sonic any more. The memories of her come rushing back. She was the kindest, friendliest person I knew in Silver City. I feel the same anger that Jonathan feels. Both at incompetent police departments and a Governor who cares more about protecting criminals and making the far left happy, than in dispensing the punishment that murderers deserve.
What Silver Needs

Albuquerque, NM

What Silver City needs is for the Cops to stop receiving cover-up money from the local drug dealers and stop covering up for them! For instance! The Aveles clan has committed some heinious crimes in Bayard and Silver and they are going about their business. A warrant has been issued for them (11/25/09), and the cops pass by where they are holed up and know they are there but because someone got paid off everyone looks the other way! What is going on with this town? Go and pick them up!!!! As for Rachel, God bless her soul and that she may receive peace and eternal life with our Father God.

Hopefully our new Sheriff will change the things that are going on here in Silver City. Out of all the people in this city Rachel is the one that should have been left alone. She was a staple in this area, known and cared for by all the same as Johnny Bangs. She is and always will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Just a note...but Rachel was NOT murdered inside the city limits of Silver City. She was murdered in Grant County's jurisdiction. "Bully" Bullcrap Hooligan was Sheriff and he was more interested eyeballing the butt of the Director of the Chamber of Commerce (on live TV no less) than in arresting criminals. I have more hope in Raul Villanueva. He seems to be 100 times more competent than prior Sheriffs.

I like Raul he didn't make any campaign promises that are not at least feasable. Hopefully he does as he says he will and look good and hard into this case. When we start living as one and watching over our neighbors and friends. When we start Reporting what we know to the proper authorities and calling out people who are doing wrong and punishing criminals to the fullest extent of the law can we call ourselves a community again. I say the begining needs to be catching the pathetic excuses for human flesh that committed this crime and making him/her or them suffer there just desserts.

I don't understand. You call yourself a native and you don't seem to understand how the system works in Silver City. Who do you think the proper authorities are and who punishes criminals? Are you really so naive as to think we have justice or law enforcement in Silver City. Corruption is our way of life. It exists at all levels of government.

There is a disturbing number of serious crimes which remain unresolved in Grant County. A great deal of corruption for such a small town. These small time crooks think they are giants but are really just tall midgets who have sold their souls for a pittance.

I may be respectful to our police force, but i found out real quick how corrupt this town is. Stories of payoffs and who the known dealers are. None of you would survive in my part of Los Angeles. this town is full of cowards. I know that a crime in my family would never get solved if they were to be killed here. i watch these tv meeting and the city council doesnt care about unsolved murders or they bring it up at every metting until it was solved. I think i could get away with murder here.
Corruption RULES!! WAy to GO Silver Police FORCE. Lets get away with FEDERAL Bombs threat Crimes TOO.

Known dealers like Bobby who owns Diamond's Gym. Selling out the back door of the gym during work hours and hitting on young girls who come in to work out.

You people griping about Silver City Police Dept in regards to the uncaught murderers are WAY OFF BASE. The Silver City PD is NOT the investigating agency for this crime. It is the Grant County Sheriff Dept. Rachel was NOT murdered in Silver City. All the Silver City PD can do is ASSIST the Grant County Sheriff in their investigation.

Is there corruption in the Silver CIty PD? No doubt there is. The practice of hiring police officers from within the Silver City area is a big mistake. Too many buddies of criminals are on the force. But concerning this murder investigation specifiucally, the blame lies with the former Sheriff, Raul Holguin. He is the one that dropped the ball.

And to those that piss and moan that not enough people step forward to finger the bad guys....do you people even LIVE in Silver City? There's a reason why nobody wants to stand up and testify. It's called revenge. Vendetta. It seems to be another one of those proud New Mexican traditions. Testify againt the bad guys and you will find your house ransacked or burnt to the ground. Do YOU have the brass balls to risk that? How about risking that your wife or kids have their throats slit while you're away at work? The police would LOVE too have people testify. But they aren't going to protect you 24 hours a day or even one hour a day.
You are on your own when it comes to protecting yourself. And of course, with no Castle Doctrine in New Mexico, if you do shoot some scumbag who breaks into your house, the DA is coming after YOU. And so are the relatives of the poor dirtbag you blew away. Lawsuit city.

So stop all this pissing and moaning. Unless and until people start electing representatives who actually give a shit about YOU, and stop electing bleeding heart liberals who care more about the rights of criminals, this situation will just get worse.

I am a native to silver city. The proper authorities for the most part seems to be the state police. (At least in the most recent events). The state police do not usually have jurisdiction but when the report goes to them then trickles down there seems to be more done than reporting to our local officers. Our local law is incompetant at best for the most part. But dont wear your seat belt or do 3 miles per hour over the speed limit and there they are. Although I do agree with most of what you say Deputy in all the years I have lived in Silver City I have never seen a vendetta atatck on a witness or there family. Thats not because it wouldn't happen though. It's because when is the last time you saw a criminal arrested that didn't plea out before court. There isn't even a revolving door system in this town. Criminals get curb side assistantce. I agree 100% though we need to get rid of the scum that call themselves council members. I have known good councel members but they never last just like good police if you dont play the game you get pushed out.

My Gawd! Only in Grant County would someone who goes by the name of "Bully" would be put in place as Sheriff. There is no doubt that the new Sheriff in town has had plenty of time to, at the very least, give some kind of update to the community on both killings resulting in bodies being found in MuleCreek.

Nope, these law enforcement monkeys are all the same the only thing that changes is their name. Has anyone considered the remote possiblity that maybe someone within the Sheriffs Dept does know something that would lead to an arrest (short of turning his or herself in that is) but there just may be a COVER-UP!!

Well freinds and neighbors of "Bully" start your comments on how he is doing such a bang up job solving crimes, protecting the citizens, picking up stray dogs, blah, blah, blah.

I was born and raised in Silver and left many years ago. I remember how safe or so I thought it was safe there. Now I hear and see all the bad things and it just saddens me. Worse because the drugs and gangs seems like it has just taken over grant county. I remember I used to be so proud to say I was from Silver. Now I just stay quite because its just totally out of control. It almost seems as though People from the outside need to come and take over. Someone with knowledge of the LAW and UPHOLD it who isnt afaid to clean up Silver and make a change for the better. Which I am sure will never happen and these crimes will continue to go unsolved. The good ole boy thing will never give anyone peace. What happend to Grant county... Will the real grant county please stand up!!!

You need to read the paper more :-)
There was a vendetta attack just recently on a lady who complained about a neighbor abusing his dog. After the complaint was filed her windows were broken in her house and they trashed the inside of her house. And that was just for complaining about a dog. Imagine if you testified in court against something REALLY bad.
I have no doubt there are plenty of witnesses and people with information about ALL of these murders that have taken place. But they are scared shitless to testify. Something that HAS driven me crazy in Silver City is the constant denial by law enforcement and politicians that we have a gang problem. It wasn't until the mayor was involved in a Summer drive-by shooting (he wasn't shot) that he reluctantly agreed it was gang members. The police have simply said it's "gang wannabes". Well newsflash, but gang wannabes become REAL gang members eventually. The city officials are so worried about jeapordizing their precious Summer events like that idiotic bike race that they will endanger the residents rather than admit gangs are a problem.

I try to keep informed but I am sure I miss alot the same as you do. You are right though and the police watch gang wanabees and small time drug dealers waiting for a bigger fish. The facts seem to be there are no bigger fish to be caught. I have called in complaints about drug dealers and have been told " WE KNOW WE ARE WATCHING THEM WAITING TO FIND THERE SUPPLIERS OR BIGGER FISH ". Why not bust them, sorry to say but if busting a small time drug dealer saves one kid from being able to make a stupid mistake its worth it. I dont know why the fear of facing reality is so hard. Like the ten step programs say admitting there is a problem is the first step.

Agree with you 100%
We told Chief Reynolds straight to his face during a neighborhood watch meeting that we knew EXACTLY what houses were dealing drugs and saw them doing it. We were told the exact same thing. That they were "after bigger fish". Wanna know WHY they are "after bigger fish". Because it makes BIGGER HEADLINES. As you say, in the meantime kids and dopers are in our neighborhoods buying that crap at will. Where I cam from (Chicago) local priests would organize neighborhood demonstrations IN FRONT OF THE DEALER's HOUSE. They would make sure the media was notified and they had TV crews present. That PRESSURED the police and mayor to take action. I dunno if that would work here. At the very least the city officials would be unhappy about the bad name the town was getting from the demonstrations being televised. Have to be televised all over the state and maybe even network coverage if possible.

All you people who think youknow everything about how corrupt our police are don't know jack!!! I was a close friend of Rachels. I am proud to say that I was her friend. But noone knows the real facts of this case. I KNOW that the Sheriff's Office is doing what they need to do to try to catch her killer(s). The family of Rachel Sierra has every right to want justice. I would like to see justice done for Rachel. But those of you who can do nothing better than to complain about how bad the police are need to shut the hell up!!!

Its not that we are whiners, WE are DAMN MAD,,,,, We are mad that Rachel was murdered and no one has been arrested. I didnt even know her. I hate that she was killed and dumped in the forest. She should be alive. Cases go unsolved in big cities, In a town like Silver, it should have been easier to catch a killer. And when we know as a Community about corruption, drug dealers, cover-ups by people living next door to us. We all know this is not how small town should be. WE pull together and find a killer. But i dont think Rachel's family will ever get justice. Silver has bigger problems... Even our Senetor HOWie is busy with planetree at the hospital to care about Killers, drug dealers, Police corruption in Silver.

I agree with everything you have said. I love living in Silver, I just hate how The Town Council and Certain Police forces had issues. If someone was to say " Run for Council" It would be a wste of my time. I am not from here. I am an Outsider. Who would honelsty vote for me. Who is really ready for a "CLean up" in this town? If we did have big Media coverage, I am sure the Media would blow the cover on alot of citizen with "DEEP Pockets". I wish we did have a big Media support to finally bring a big clean up and expose our city to the lack of concern that we so deserve. Rachel should be alive. Thats why we are so bothered. WE KNOW THAT THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN ARREST MONTHS AGO.
