Music was great, people were great, stupid wind will never quit blowing, other than that, it was a very wonderful weekend. Bet more money was spent for dining and lodging by out of towners in these two days then for the Tour of the Gila. aka tour of the skinnies.

You'd lose that bet. First, the Tour of the Gila runs for 5 days whereas the Blues Fest runs for 2. Second, the Tour of the Gila consistently fills every available lodging; the Blues Fest does a good job of putting heads in beds, but I noticed that the Copper Manor had VACANCY on their signboard all weekend.

The dining situation is a bit more complicated. The Mimbres Region Arts Council has been working hard in recent years to make sure that Blues Fest attendees are aware of the Downtown area and what it offers, but let's face it: the average blues fan plunks down his/her lawn chair in the park and hardly gets up for anything but beer and bathroom. Add to that the fact that the majority of food vendors in the park are from out-of-town and make their living by going from event to event, whereas local restaurants, etc. have higher overhead for the brick-and-mortar businesses they are tied to-- so they are somewhat less likely to set up at the park; all this means that a chunk of the $$$ spent on food during the Blues Fest doesn't stay in the local economy.

Don't get me wrong-- the Blues Fest is an important event that brings lots of people and money to Silver City, and as a business owner I'm happy so see it so successful... but the Tour of the Gila brings in more bucks.

Every year I read that this was the biggest crowd ever. I don't think it was and was evident by the beer garden not as full as in past years. I agree with Mitch remarks 100% and I don't ride bikes or really care for them, but facts are facts. I wind was a problem and perhaps the price of gas keep folks from traveling. I did like the addition of car show and bike run taking place at same time as it gave people the chance to walk down and look around. And having the local resturant have an area fenced in with different music was an added benefit. Not all people like Blues music, I do, but something to think about. I had a lot of people as why Blues event did not start on friday nite in park, this has been the 4th year that out of town residents have asked. I would like it to start on friday and end as it currently does now. Just my opinion!

What's wrong with this picture? Police were happy that "a beer tent full to capacity with happy drinkers" were not creating problems for law enforcement?!!!

You mean to tell me POLICE had NO PROBLEM allowing all these happy pappy "beer tent full to capacity with happy drinkers" DRIVE HOME DRUNK!?!

No wonder one Robert H. Roland age 59 was struck from behind by a slappy, pappy, happy "beer drinke" and KILLED!!

How PATHETIC!! If law enforcement isn't going to pull these tent beer drinkers over, they may as well let everyone in Grant County SLIDE for the rest of our planets existence!!!

When did the Blues Fest become a Cinco de Mayo celebration? We were really turned off by the locals. The display of gang colors and teenage mothers and the hostile attitudes of our local youth will keep us away.

As a local here, I'm very sorry to hear of your distaste. I didn't make it to the festival, but I totally see where you are coming from. Almost ANYTHING you attend in grant county is going to be littered with gang colors, pregnant teen agers, and dare I say...little a$$hold kids with apparently no parents or respect for anything. SC wonders why out-of-towners fail to return to Grant County, but it's because we allow "the best of silver city" out of their cages during anything exciting. Better luck next time!

Ya just what Grant COunty needs, more drunk drivers. I agree, the county would have better luck with any event if the stupid, yes stupid gangbanger teenage wanna be's would just stay home. No one is impressed by these young folks and maybe our state needs to enact some gang legislation instead of ignoring the problem! Law enforcment should be arresting these type of people until the message is clear that gangs arent welcome.

Complaining about gangs and pregnant teenagers isn't doing any good. Why don't you guys or someone make an effort to do something about it. There is more drugs and alcohol in this town than there is encouragement to lead a proactive lifestyle.
