Bad bad bad. I hope they catch these jerks and charge them all with attempted murder. There is no excuse for the kind of crap that goes on unchallenged in Grant Co.
Unchallenged and unsolved.

What the hell is the reporter from the Sun News doing publishing the name of one of the juvenile witnesses? Folks are not thinking these days. Especially the adults it seems. The article said the Sun News may have photos of the vehicle that the shots were fired from. Think the police can solve this mystery? Will we the reading public EVER hear about it if they do? What an absolute joke Grant County is becoming. Wake up people!

When are law enforcement going to wake up and do something about all of this...get outside help, get a task force...do something. We have to protect ourselves.

Probably one of the local cops brother, cousin,or some other family relation that was upset over something. Your all right this is becomming a big joke around town. We the people should all go to the City Council meeting and DEMAND that the police clean house. We should DEMAND that police arrest the drug dealers of Grant County. We should DEMAND that police step up the patrols around town and quit responding in force to minor fenderbenders at Walmart. Wake up Police. We the people who pay your wages are fed up and we the people can and will fire you. We the people run this town and you better pay attention to what we are telling you.

Normally I disagree with 90% of everything you say - but you are right on this time Sir!! Cops are more worried about traffic citations then trying to solve truly dangerous cases that continue to plague our city and make it unsafe for the citizens, visitors in this once safe community.

Alas, I'm taking gun training and will purchase a weapon upon my completion - the cops can't protect the citizens here.

Time for me to personally think about taking my whole family out of this area!

Why wouldn’t the reporter print the name? Most names of people that make comments to the news media are used. It is called creditable journalism. You can bet you ass if a t.v. station was there, every kid in the park would have been lining up to talk. It is really sad and shocking that the event happened at all and where the “Blue Festival” will be in just a couple of weeks. The reason most stuff goes the way it does in Grant County is because people don’t talk to the media.

I am going to respectfully disagree with you. People have tried to talk to the media. They close their ears if it is not something they "want" to hear. And, if they do print anything, folks get misquoted. The Sun News is a right wing yellow journalistic adventure in Grant Co to serve whomever is the "Power Person" of the day. AKA those crappy petty business people downtown who don't care one iota about you, me or anybody else. They are only interested in the money they can extract. I will ask you this question- do you think the family of the youngster that gave his name to the reporter is happy about it? One other main reason folks don't talk about things is because of retaliation. What if that young boy is the only one who can give a positive ID on those shooting thugs?

I wonder how "this reporter" was able to identify what type of gun was used just by hearing the gunshots? He must have a lot of firearms experience to be able to do that. 4-5 rapid shots could be a revolver OR semi-auto.

Newsflash...but the courts have REPEATEDLY ruled that police are NOT required to protect citizens.
It's on YOU, the individual, to protect yourself. Silverkid has the right idea. Take a gun training course and protect yourselves.
Read this if you still think the nanny state is required to protect you:

4Real, I do agree with you on the retaliation thing, that is real and it also comes with standing up for what you believe in. Grant County is well know for that.

Curious, go to a gun range and listen to the difference in the sound a revolver and a semi-auto make and how fast they can be fired. Why do you think most law enforcement & military don't carry revolvers?

And you and silverkind are right. Protect yourself, no one is going to do it for you.

i think the bullets were intended for city officials who are trying to control the drug trade here. but their LA EME compas are tired of silver city sherrifs, local police, border patrol, and state coppers, but the maifioso just sent a little hello waring letting the mayor know that he doesnt control chit. our streets a rampant with drugs and the trunk of most cops reek of either bomb chron or some stepped on nieve. But keep ur eyes open fellow citizens

So which officers came back to the station short on ammo?
This case was bungled by the drug money addicted cops to begin with! It would not surprise me that an officer tried to kill rival drug gang members.

The FBI needs to take a look at Grant County.

You are absolutely right. However, some of the folks who post here would like you to believe we are overrun with corrupt cops, out of control gangbangers, and money-hungry city and county officials. Honestly, these people do not reflect the thinking of the majority of folks who live and work in Silver City and Grant County.

But it DOES honestly reflect the citizens that are making the headlines and that reflects poorly on the whole town.
REALITY CHECK-there ARE plenty of corrupt cops, gangbangers, and dishonest officials here in this lil town. More than there should be!

Strange, I haven't read ANY headlines about corrupt cops in Silver City OR Grant County. Granted, the husband/wife team of Alfred and Mary Ann Sedillo, two top elected county officials, have had their names in the headlines, lately,(there have been no charges filed), but they are NOT town officials. County officials and town leaders are different people serving in different governments. You have got to quit mixing apples and oranges!

I challenge you to name one town official or any town cop who has been charged or indicted on any corruption charges in the last 20 + years. You, and others of the same ilk, are living in a fantasy world. It's time to stop playing make-believe! You people are the ones who are damaging our community with your false claims.

No, Silver City and surrounding area is just fine. Not dangerous at all. IF you discount the gangs that are allowed to run the streets. Three drive-by shootings in the last two weeks, a young woman had her head blown off and her body dumped by the side of a highway right near where a young man was murdered. No charges. Who dunnit? We have more unsolved crime than solved. The merchants are so greedy downtown that by them fighting over the same penny we now have an excess of copper wire. The ones that responded to your post like Country Boy are so prejudiced that if you had said something they didn't agree with they would have told you to stay in New York and don't come here. They are big blowhards who don't want to face the truth about their hometown. There are some REALLY nice folks here but they are overshadowed by the snakes that pose as good citizens/business owners. Why are so many nice people leaving Grant County? Don't tell your friends to move here. Save them from HELL. Oh yes, one more thing. The powers that be with this forum know how to hack and get folks real name. So if you are popular and post something negative about any of "them" or their lackeys- watch out!
