Fantastic! This is a really forward-looking decision (one that comes with immediate benefits, to boot). Love the idea of putting the charging station at the Visitors' Center, too.

What a joke! Electric vehicles are NOT efficient. This is just hippy "feelgood" BS. When they build an electric garbage truck that can drive it's whole route without recharging, then come back and rave about electric vehicles. They are counting chickens that haven't even't laid eggs yet.

"Silver City currently has two electric vehicles, which it uses for meter readings and related utility functions."

I think maybe you should do a litte research before you post on something you don't seem to know much about. Usually I agree with your posts, but you seem to have missed the mark here. For the upcomming 2010-2011 semesters, WNMU has a new Bachelors degree program called Environmental Sustainabiity. Local projects like this really shed more light on the subject, and allows for students at Western to have an opportunity for an internship or even to start a career. This news is not all bad, I can assure you that.

They are not golf carts; if I recall correctly, at least one is a pickup truck.

I've got 4 PV panels generating power to pump water. They paid for themselves in about 5 years.... more or less hereafter, it's all free electricity other than maintenance costs.

The Town's proposal to use solar to generate electricity for the waste water plant seems logical. Shouldn't we be praising them for finding ways around the obscene PNM rate increase? I imagine tax or service-fee increases would have been the only other options.
